    - Failed Profile import with no error messages... I have added 8 new uesers to my Active Directory on my Domain Controler. I have also run the Full Import on the Manage Profiles page in Site Settings Three times. However, I have yet to get my new users added. I get no error messages and it worked just fine when I ran the import before christmas. Neither the Domain Conrtoler or the Web serer have been restarted since the 3rd of December.     - Project Server 2003 and Portal Server and all "Sites" We have recently set up portal server (and WSS) and project server 2003 on the same server. The Project Server WSS is on port 8083. How can we list (on the SPS home page or another page) all the Workspaces / Sites on the Project Server 2003 WSS install and ensure that they are being cataloged effectively. I have played around with mysites but this seems to only work with sites created from that interface. What would be good for users is to have a view of all the sites they have access to...     - 'Alert Me' security problem I set up a list of people's holidays. The only view that is available is one where it presents you with your listing that matches your login name. That way I can create a large list, but people will only be able to see their listing. All other views are removed, with permissions to view only. This all worked fine, until I experimented by seeing what would happen if I created an alert on this list. Any additions are then emailed to the user, where they can see the other staffs holiday details. I guess this is only to be expected. So, now I figure I just need to remove the ability to create an alert on this list. Is this possible ? I tried to edit the page within Frontpage will no success. Could someone help ? Regards, Jamie.     - external user - NT logon requested again when a document is accessed My sharepoint application has two types of users. Internal (ones that work in my company) and external (ones that dont). When an external users open a document their NT user credentials are again requested by the document. This is clearly a very bad thing as the user has already logged on once. It all looks very simpel to get it to work only I didn't succeed. I checked all my properties over and over again and can't find any clue why it doens't work.     - webpart classresources error! Hi We have a problem of placing the class resource files. As our webpart is complext webpart which is deal with database through webservice. We have created a usercontrol web application. and through javascript LoadService we get data. now, if we create this usercontrol to webpart, where do we need to place the class resources. We have followed the msdn document which says you need to place in wpresouces of SPS if the assembly is placed on the bin directory. (I hope including aspx pages,ascx files javascripts, images should be placed in Wpresources) we are getting error after placing the webpart classresources in wpresources as assembly refers as webapplication/images/myimage.gif, and now, its 'wpresources/images/myimages.gif' somehow we could manage the image folders. but javascript loadwebservices still gives error since we place in in wpresouces. I have tried with LoadControl('/wpresources/webapplication/usercontrol.ascx') and built also. still gives problem. Can somebody gives clue on how we have fix this issue?     - 'Links for You' webpart not working in MySite Hi All, Im having a problem displaying targeted links through the Links for You webpart in the MySite of the users. Basically I've configured the MySite so there are 2 webparts - 'News for You' and 'Links for You'... The news for you works fine.. any news content is pushed into the mysite under the relevant audiences..... the same cant be said for links.. I feel that this is a bug.. as when i go to the portal default page, the links for you webpart is working correctly..     - SPS on a Cluster? We're in the early stages of deploying SPS, and judging by initial team response, it's likely to become a critical element in our methodology. In response to an earlier post, it was pointed out to me that SPS backups can only be restored on a machine with the same name, same IP address, and same disk configuration as that on which it was made. This troubles me a bit, since I have no way of verifying that my backups are good until I actually need them, correct? (Well, I suppose I could set up a stand-alone server, but then I'd have to keep it off the network to avoid contention, which would make moving data a pain.) So, what we were wondering is whether we could set up SPS to run on a Windows 2003 cluster.     - WSDL missing on personal sites Hi I'm trying to write some client side JavaScript to add an intranet site to a users "My Links" list. I'm using the web service.htc behaviour from Microsoft and I can use webservices on from the main portal site or using the http://[protal url]/MySite/_vti_bin/lists.asmx web service but when I try to use http://[portal url]/sites/personal/[username]/_vti_bin/lists.asmx web service it is missing the WSDL. The MySite webservice doesn't seem return any lists with the GetListCollection method. When I go the /sites/personal web service I can click on the "Service Description" link and I get a 404 error. Has anyone else encountered this, or can anyone suggest a nice way of adding an "add to my links" button to an HTML page?     - Tracking Document hits I'm trying to track how often all of the documents in our sharepoint site are accessed, but can't seem to figure out how. I've looked through the IIS logs, but it doesn't appear that it stores the actual document that is accessed. Is there anyway of doing this? We would like to create new sharepoint sites for 2005 and would like to transfer over any remaining open issues from the 2004 site to the 2005 site.     - Dates on versions changing when using MS Office 2003 I have a puzzling problem with Version Control where the modified date for a previous version of the document keeps changing. I have SPS 2003 with Office 2003. This is the procedure I follow: 1) Take any document and "Edit in Microsoft Word". Take note of the date and time of the last modifiication of the last version of this document. 2) In Word go to File->Check Out to check out the document 3) Make a change to the document then go to File->Check In to check it back in 4) Close the document 5) Return to Sharepoint and look at the version history. The previous version's modifed date will now be the same or very nearly the same as the current version. The problem occurrs when you Check Out. If you watch the version history as you go through the stages you notice that the problem occurrs when you check out the document. The date of the previous version (in fact it's the current version at that point as it's the version that is checked out) is modified as soon as you click Check Out Someone at an MS partner assures me this is intended functionality. But this is not how version control should work. If I check out the document from Sharepoint itself, then edit it then save it back and then check it in everything works fine. Is this a bug?     - URLS DNS name not consistent in Sharepoint Any help is much appreciated. Default SharePoint Portal 2003 install: I have set the Default URL as http://alias.domain.com And Users across the internet and through my ISA server can access the top level portal site, log in and get to any default sub area. However, when they create a subarea, and try to modify content, all links on those pages are pointing to: http://server.NTdomain.com which is not DNS acceptable across the internet. Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix it? I have tried mappings, and everything nothing changes. No help from knowledgebase or documentation.     - Sort document library by modified date Hi, When I try to sort a document library by modifed date, the first 100 documents appear ok, but when I click to show the next 100 files, the first 100 appear again and again and the rest of the files cannot be viewed.     - Total rid of Site Administrator Rights. As a Administrator of Overall Sharepoint Portal, I created many department sites. I grant the owner of department sites Administrator rights. And subsequently, the department site owner would like a site to be totally off limits to the administrator. Is that possible?     - Portal only index document properties, NOT content Hi, I experience 2 problems with the SharePoint Portal Search. I might be missing something ... 1. My SPS only allows me to search on the properties of document. When I try searching on the content of a document, i.e. a word inside a Word-document, no results are returned. I thougth IFilters for office documents were default installed with SharePoint ? What parameter did I miss ? I tested it searching for the whole word as it exists in the document. 2. The administrator guide of SPS2003 explains that, to narrow your search, you can type more than one word in the simple search box. I.e. instead of "project", you type "project management customer". According to the guide, this is a AND-relation, no OR. But when I type more words, the number of results grows ! This can't be normal, does it ? Hope someone can help, Thanks ! The page viewer web part works fine but the page listing web part (pointing to the same server) throws the following error: "The windows credentials provided could not be validated" If I point the page listing part at a different MCMS site on a different network it works fine but I cannot see the difference between the two. Within SPS you cannot restore an individual document library. You must
restore the entire portal, or alternatively, restore the portal to a second
instance (server) and copy the document library over. Within Team Sites
(i.e. WSS) you can restore individual sites using stsadmin.exe. See this
chapter from the MS website for further information.

It should be noted that any site in SPS is really a WSS site, so you can
backup and restore any site. Renaud Compte has made available a Granular
Backup Utility that provides a GUI interface to STSadmin and makes the
process much less fraught with tension. See the following site:
