Free/busy info in MOSS
Hi
My organisation has just rolled out Sharepoint2007 and I have noticed
that free/busy information for colleagues is not showing through.
Their names are displayed in MySite (as colleagues) and in our Office
2003 apps when I load a doc from SharePoint with a message saying that
free/busy information is being retrieved. However it never is. Could
this be an issue with Exchange 2003?

Domain Name Versus Machine Name
I have SharePoint installed on a machine called, say "chuck".
I have an externally visible domain entry called, say "chuck.mycomany.org".
I can get to my site from the Internet no problem.
When I create a document library and add documents to it, retrieving the
documents works fine (internally and externally).
When I create a folder in a document library, it works fine internally - but
only because the link that SharePoint creates is hard coded to
http://chuck/restofpath and of course, I can see chuck from my internal
network. When I hit the same thing from the Internet, of course it uses the
same path of http://chuck/restofpath and naturally, it has no idea who chuck
is and I get an error.
The problem is, it is inconsistent, because like I said, when clicking on
individual documents, the URL is more like
http://chuck.mycomany.org/documentlibrary/mydoc.doc (externally) and
http://chuck/documentlibrary (internally) and everything is fine.
I have a similar problem when I am in a subsite, and I click on the root
site in the breadcrumb list on the very, very top of the page. It works
internally because it uses machine name. It doesn't work externally because
it doesn't use fully qualified domain name.
You would think that EVERYTHING that is created in SharePoint (WSS 3.0 on
Win2k3) would be a relative path, and it wouldn't matter what's there for
the machine or domain name.
Even when I navigate to http://chuck.mycomany.org/portalstuff from my
internal network, the URL changes to http://chuck/portalstuff
Thoughts?

WSS 3.0 to Moss 2007 upgrade
Ok, I must be missing something, but maybe you all can help. We have
an existing WSS 3.0 site setup on one server. We have acquired a new
server, installed MOSS 2007 Enterprise on it with the databases on a
second SQL 2005 server. So far so good. It is all working and I can
see the MOSS menus for controlling navigation ect...
Now, if I do a stsadm.exe backup and restore to the new MOSS server I
get and exact duplicate of my existing WSS 3.0 site with none of the
navigation and management features of the normal MOSS topsite. That
makes sense I guess, as it would overwrite the existing default MOSS
site. So then I tried stsadm.exe import and export, but unfortunately
these commands don't seem to work with customized sites like the
Helpdesk template/solution. So then I tried uninstalling MOSS,
installing just WSS 3.0, restoring my backup to that install and
upgrading in place to MOSS. Still not MOSS features in the menus. At
this point I am stuck, confused, and frustrated. I really do not want
to have to recreate the whole site from scratch, but that is where I
guess I am. Maybe someone has a suggestion on what to do to get my
current site as a member of a top level MOSS site collection.
Thanks,

500 error page when ~ tilde used in URL
I have a customization issue which doesn't want to co-operate with me, may be
someone has seen this before. I need to create a custom 500 error page that
is displayed every time IE generates a 500 error. I have created a custom
500 and 404 pages and they work, except for one instance when a url is
http://www.site.com/~abcd (any letters after tilde / tilda)
I have created an .aspx page and have it pointed in IIS custom error pages
as well as under customError tags in web.config.
The errors work for all the 404 pages (which was a customization in the
SharePoint dll files) and for some 500 errors, but not for the ~ url's....and
this one is an important thing for a client, because they moved sites from
Unix (where sites were ..../~username) to SharePoint, they want to tell the
people who will go to their old site structure that it has moved, instead of
a general 500 error and get calls on their help desk saying that the server
is down. It has been troubling because IE says its a 500 error, but it is
not a standard 500 error, plus the ~ is a reserved character in IIS.
I also tried the global.asax code that a co-worker recommended (which did
not work)

SharePoint address list and winmail.dat
Hello,
I have a somewhat (in my experience) obscure problem.
Let me first give all software versions:
Outlook 2003sp2
Exchange 2003 (sp unknown)
SharePoint Server 2007/SharePoint Services 3.0 (?)
My expertise is with Office applications: Word, Excel, Powerpoint,
Visio, Project and of course Outlook.
I have superficial knowledge of Exchange, other people administer it.
I have even less knowledge of SharePoint.
Our problem:
We have an address list in SharePoint.
This address list is added in Outlook.
When people send mails with attachment to receipients on this
SharePoint address list, they arrive as winmail.dat for non-Outlook
receipients. This is the dreaded RTF/TNEF problem. For normal
addresses, it is easy to fix: just configure the address to receive
mail in plain text format, not in Outlook RTF format.
See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=138053 and
http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm#ms-tnef (yes I
did my homework)
But the addresses in the SharePoint address list are read-only in
Outlook. It' snot possible to change them.
Since I only know Outlook, I'm a bit at a dead end. The person
administering SharePoint is willing to make changes, if I can tell
exactly what to do. Which I don't know. So that's why I am here.
Any suggestions?

Using Property Filters in MOSS Search
Hi
I want to use Property Filters to narrow my search in a crawled
fileserver.
I have a filestructur like \\fileserver\share\project\11111 where
11111 is a project number.
When I use Advanced Search in MOSS and specify the property URL to
contain 11111, the search results show me all the items indexed in the
path \\fileserver\share\project\11111 and below.
But when I try to specify this directly in the search string, by
typing site:11111 in the search box, I got no results returned. typing
site:file://fileserver/share/project/11111 do return the expected
results. It seems like the property "Site" is not using "Contains"
like the property "URL" in Advanced Search.
Have anyone done property filtering for file system paths ?

Moss 2007 Outlook Integration - Document Libraries - Versions and

We have a Master Document Library on our Sharepoint 2007 Portal Server. If

How does versioning work - Our document library is set so that the default

Sharepoint list respect this setting?
Permissions - if the user has read only rights, are they notified that the
document is read only when they are offline as well as online - accessing
through the Outlook sharepoint list?
Views - we currently organize our Central Document library by having a
number of views defined by categories (columns). Is there anyway to reflect
these views in Outlook Sharepoint lists?

MOSS No longer sends E-mail Alerts...
I have a problem with my Microsoft Sharepoint Server, it used to send out
alerts and now it doesn't send them.
The MOSS server was configured to use iis smtp on the same server.
I did change the ports on the clients to use the ssl ports 995 and 465 but I
also changed them back to the defaults (110 and 25) and the alerts then only
send out when I create a new alert for this list.
I also checked the timer job status and immediate alerts status was
successful at 100%.
I also checked the inetpub\mailroot folders and there are no clues there
either. I then checked the event logs but nothing leads me to solving the
problem.
I have no clue as to what to check next.
What I would like to do is use the secure ports (POP 995 and SMTP 465) which
are now required by my mail server host/provider.
If there is anything anyone knows of that I should check please let me know.
Or if anybody can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate
it.

Help converting lists to features and retaining existing content
We have a Sharepoint 2007 installation that was upgraded a few months
back from 2003. We have a custom site definition (onet.xml, and
several schema.xml) that is used for about 900 sites. The site def has
several custom document library lists, a contacts list, and an image
gallery. The lists are currently as they were in 2003, i.e. existing
not as features, but as defined in the schema.xml in the folders
\12\TEMPLATE\SiteTemplates\[companysite]\LISTS\[listname]. Going
through all the documentation that I have found, it doesn't look too
tricky to convert these lists to features. However, building the
Onet.xml and the webtemp.xml correctly is looking daunting, and I am
not entirely sure of the process. I am especially concerned about how
to get the existing content over to the new feature-based site
defintions. How is this done? Do I need to use the Contnent Migration
API or something? Obviously I don't have a clear picture of the
process!
Thanks for any help in clarifying this process for me.

Cheers,

Report Packs
I would like to get a sharepoint report pack for MOM. I have looked at
this location
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/scp/opsmgr05.aspx?SCPProdID=2&SCPackFor=Office%20SharePoint%20Server%20%28SPS%29%202003&SCPackID=20
and this leads you to a management pack not one that produces reports. Can
someone guide me with a resolution ? Tag: disable RTF for contacts in address list Tag: 98659
Printing SharePoint pages
Everytime someone tries to print a SharePoint page, it always seems to
print everything else (main top image, navigations, etc.) and not just
the main content. I've done some research and there are some coding
scripts that allows you to create a "printer friendly" page, but I
can't seem to find one that works for printing Wiki pages cleanly.
Currently using SharePoint Services. Would SharePoint Server/Portal
allow you to print better? Please help and thanks in advance. Tag: disable RTF for contacts in address list Tag: 98658
MOSS2007: Errors after Patch-day
hi @all!
We are running a small farm (2 WFE) with MOSS 2007 Entp SP1 on W2K3.
On sunday we install all current windows patches. You'll find a list at
the end of this posting. No MOSS-related patches was deployed.
After the "patch-reboot" the system is now very slow... slow Rendering
of Lists, integrated SQL2005 reporting services, ...
On importent point is Tracing:
After the patch all trace logs are very small or empty and with the
following entry:
02/26/2008 13:00:13.42 wsstracing.exe (0x0740) 0x1C6C
ULS Logging Unified Logging Service uls1
Monitorable Tracing Service lost trace events. Current value 1.
Do you have any information about problems with this patches?
Thx
Rene

User's cached credentials
I have an issue with SPS2007 with SSO enabled and using 2 Factor
Authentication with RSA all is wotking fine although I have a question:
Sharepoint caches the user account/password credentials from AD so with SSO
login they use their RSA keyfob to login.
Say if the employee had left the company, admin disabled their account but
user still has the keyfob and is able to login due to the cached credentials.
So far I can see the only way to clear the cache and get the login to the
sharepoint server to lookup the AD account again is to restart the SPS??
Surely there must be a way to enable the login to lookup and see if the
account is disabled/locked out??
Could anybody help me out on this please?? or point me in the right
direction of any resources to read through.
Many Thanks

Encrypt site links and content links
Hey All,
I'm attempting to build a SharePoint site i'm using paramateres
within webparts and also within the site url's they are basically
ClientID= and MatterNo= as you can guess is from a legal database.
Wondering if anyone knows if i can encrypt the urls to hide all of
this??? i was thinking maybe of using AD extending and using this but
no idea how this would work Tag: disable RTF for contacts in address list Tag: 98647
Move the sites from WSS 2.0 to MOSS 2007
Hi,
We have having around 6000 Sites (1000 Top Level Sites and 5000 sub-site) on
WSS 2.0 environment. Now we are planning to move it to MOSS 2007 Standard
Edition. Our WSS 2.0 resides on SQL Server 2000 and MOSS 2007 on SQL Server
2005.
Please let me know, if there is any free tool available to move the sites or
content database to new MOSS 2007.
Or If there is no free tool available, then please suggest me the steps to
follow to move.
Thanks in Advance!
