 - How to..SPS 2003..Cross Domain Authentication? Before I start, my new installation (again..) i wanted to know if anyone knew of any recommended steps, the ones in the MS SPS Documentation are apparently not clear to me because i have failed on three installs so far. Any suggestions? The problem exist when im trying to add a user account. When i use the Manage users link from the Site Administration page, I can add local domain accounts, by either email@mydomain.com {syntax}, or by MYDOMAIN\username, but when i try to Create a user from another remote domain it gives me the following message - "The user does not exist.". I Dont beleive i should be getting this message because SPS is suppose to create the user account in AD for me but thats not working, ......I've resinstalled sps 3x times sofar because i know the first time i was in the wrong mode, i think im going nuts!!!! plz help Has anyone ran into this problem?  - Unable to Connect to Config DB after upgrade I've upgraded from Beta 2 to RTM code. However, upon completion I get the following error: Unable to connect to the configuration database. Ensure that the database server is online and that the configuration database exists. If the configuration database administration account password recently changed or expired, see the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administrator's Guide for instructions on how to update the password. If the configuration database or database server is permanently unavailable, click Disconnect from configuration database.  - FP 2003 and safe webparts I have recently re-installed the RTM bits for SPS2003 and FrontPage 2003 no longer allows me to edit any of the default pages in any portal site that I create. I get the "not registered as safe" error (see below), but all I am trying to do is get to pages with standard webparts, which should already be registered. Maybe it has something to do with the location of the web.config file? Any ideas? Thanks ...  - Losing Customizations Hi We have a server with Sharepoint 2001 on it. We recently installed service pack 2a and since then everytime we reboot Sharepoint (or something) is replacing many of the files within the /Portal/Resources/ folder within WebFolders with fresh versions. As such we are losing all our customisations that we have placed in files such as EditProfile.asp, spsdash.css, etc. Has anyone experienced this problem and is there a way to stop sharepoint refreshing the files with its own (pre- customised) versions? Where does it do the refresh from, can I modify those files so that it it must do a refresh, it will use our customised files?  - SharePoint 2001 Client install Problem I am attempting to install the SPS 2001 client 2a onto a machine that is running Windows 2000 SP 4 and Office 2000 with all the latest service packs and critical updates. However after downloading or attempting to install from the web the client off of Microsoft's site I get and error at the end of the install that says: "This installation package could not be opened. Verifty that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." It will not complete the install and therefore I can not run certain functions from this particular machine. The problem is this person is a coordinator and needs to have this access.  - SharePoint Portal/SQL Licensing I have heard conflicting information regarding whether or not SQL client licenses are required for SharePoint. I know that you need a SQL server license to use SQL as the database, and that you need SharePoint CAL's for the users that are accessing the SharePoint server, but do you also need SQL CAL's? My initial thoughts are that the SQL client licenses are not required for users since the users are not directly accessing the SQL server. The SharePoint server is what is accessing SQL.  - Problem with WebPart and assembly According to the description in MSDN I have created a basic WebPart, no problems. Now I would like to extend it. Therefore I created a DLL with a simple class with a Name property. This class shall be used in the WebPart. While compiling I got the error, the DLL is not stong named. So I gave it a strong name. But when I open the web page in the browser I get an error,t he assembly is not safe. Where do I define the PublickKeyToken for the assembly? I tried it as <SafeControl> like for the WebPart, but it didn't work. Next try was to use some functions from other libraries directly in the WebPart assembly like the following: IPEndPoint ipdest = new IPEndPoint(System.Net.Dns.Resolve (host).AddressList[0],port); Here I get en exception (in german): Anforderung des Berechtigungstyps System.Net.DnsPermission, System, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089 ist fehlgeschlagen.  - SPS2: Limit Search Scope/Results I have been playing with search scopes, indices, and site/path rules quite a bit, but have not found a good way to limit the search scope to just one document library (for example) within an area. SPS2 Beta <for an english version see below> Problem '500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR' ------------------------------------ SPS2 RTM deutsch läßt sich nicht installieren, wenn vorher eine englische Version (z.B. Beta, RC) auf dem Rechner installiert war. Nach der Installation zeigt das IIS Basisverzeichnis der Sharepoint Zentraladministration auf das alte '1033' Verzeichnis anstatt auf '1031'. Hello all, we are installing SPS 2001 on Windows Advanced Server 2000. everything looks good until the POST INSTALL stage and we are getting this error: (this is from the errorlog.txt) CPkmSetupComponent::InstallMSIPackage, MSI Package (spsclisrv) setup failed with error code 0x8007064c.  - Uninstall failure: Web Storage System I recently had an installation problem on a server with Terminal Services loaded. I did not run the executable needed with TS as the instructions state. The uninstall failed to remove WSS. Another MS document says I can remove files manually, and clean up the registry. I cannot remove many of the WSS .dll files, as they are in use.  - SPP V2 Document changes from browser view Hi all When clicking on a document link it opens up in the browser. But when clicking on the browsers back button the following message is displayed: This document has been modified do you want to save changes? I assume that the system might be wanting to save data such as last modified etc. Is there anyway to stop this as the correct way to change a document should be to EDIT it.  - Meeting workspaces and attendees Hi all... I'm continuing to encourage my company to move toward the SPS 2003 solution. In my test environment, I have a calendar that will get quite a bit of heavy use. The user that will be updating the calendar (er, events list) previously used Outlook's invite attendees feature to notify users of the event. Using Sharepoint 2003, I'm thinking to have her create a meeting workspace for these events and then invite attendees there. However, when attendees are invited, no email is sent automatically.  - Upgrade paths to SPS 2003 ? Hi all, On a MS seminar I heard about 3 types of upgrade-paths from SPS 2001 to SPS 2003, but I can't find any details on the MS-sites. It dealt with 3 options to upgrade: 1. Keep the navigation in tact and loose security-settings & meta-data 2. Keep the security-settings in tact and loose the other 2 3. Keep your metadata in tact and manually re-apply your security-settings and rework your navigation-structure I need more information on the last topic: how can I upgrade my SPS 2001 to 2003 without having to fill in the metadata again ? Now, I need to transfer (migrate) the entire website to another machine, which has the same software installed. How do I do this?  - SPS 2001 Category Webpart Hi, I'm using SPS 2001 English SP1 on a Win2K Server English SP3. I click on the Category Dashboard and then choose a category , I get the following error message: "Script Execution Error: Malformed XML query results for category items". Just one category throws this error, the other function properly. I have ca. 20 categories. 2-3 of them have subcategories, one of them has about 100 subcategories. This one throws the error.  - WorkSpace Not Opening Hello, After the completion of share point installation I create a workspace using the wizard, the wizard finishes and it says workspace created. However when I try and test the site on a browser nothing seems to be happening. the IE globe keeps on revolving with nothing opening up. I have checked all the services are running, the specs are Win2K Adv Server with SP4 / Sharepoint 2001. Any help will be appreciated.
