Group expand/collapse not working in Firefox
Hi,
When converting a view grouped by some field (ListViewWebPart) to a
custom XSLT Data View (DataFormWebPart) using the Sharepoint Designer, the
"plus" image to expand / collapse groups doesn't work anymore in Firefox
(works fine in IE).
Does anyone have a fix / workaround for this bug?
The script called is function ExpGroupBy in C:\Program Files\Common

Setting entire portal server to read only
Hi
We have a SPS2003 scenario where we need to set the top level portal
site and all WSS sites and doc libs below this to read only (bar
administrator of course). The portal has custom site groups and has
explicit permissions assigned even down to users at the doc library
level. Is there a shortcut to doing this or are we in for the long
haul? There are about 50 WSS sites - not sure how many doc libs (how
can I tell?) and quite a few portal areas (30 perhaps).
Thanks for your help.

SPBackup Utility Mysteriously Stopped Working
We have been using the SPBackup.exe utility to backup all of the WSS sites
on our SharePoint 2003 Portal. Backups have been running fine for well over
a year. For some reason the utility stopped working on March 6th and now
just generates an empty batch file. No changes to server other than
Microsoft Security Updates, patches, fixes, etc.
Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Using sharepoint for a website
I am interested in the community's opinion on using Sharepoint for a
corporate website. There is no requirement for community based
activity, collaboration, teaming or office integration. Would such a
site benefit from sharepoint or is it overkill?
and ... how easy is it to completely separate the front end HTML and
CSS from the sharepoint generated code ... for accessibility and
search engine optimisation reasons?

I have successfully customized the master page for all my sites, but

The Admin pages (which I have heard can't be customized)
And the View All Site Content page.
Can I change these? Why don't these pages use the master page? They

re-occuing meeting workspace
I have a re-occurring meeting workspace, in MOSS2007, that was setup thru
Outlook 2007. Someone needed to change the dates on a few meetings. They
opened the series in Outlook XP, made the changes and sent it out.
They found out that the dates didn't get updated in the workspace, then they
asked me how to do it .... I told them to use OL 2007, so they tried that
and it didn't work. I just found out they used Outlook XP first to change
the meeting.
Is the connection between Sharepoint and Outlook broken now? Can it be
fixed?

MOSS2007: Move Express database to SQL2005
This should be an easy task. After a week of trying, I feel I am no closer
to success. I've even opened an incident with Microsoft, but have not
recieved any real assistance.
1. I've tried setting up a fresh test server and stsadm -o restore
-newdatabaseserver the backup. Restores persistantly fail.
2. I've tried an /export /import for my content, but get error messages that
the templates are different. A blank gives me an 'unable to import' error
message.
3. I've converted express to SQL2005 and tried detaching and attaching the
tables. Pages wont load - including admin site.
I am in desperate need to get the content database (preferably all
databases) moved. The 4GB limit is going to bring me down hard.

SharePoint 2003 Farm and machineKey setting
I've been researching IIS web farms and have found the importance of
the <machineKey> web.config setting for load balanced web farms. This
leads me to ask the question: Does SharePoint 2003 (portal or WSS)
make significant use of session state?
It would make sense to set identical machineKeys on all SharePoint web
front-ends in a farm. I'm just curious if this is standard procedure
or if there are hidden drawbacks to the method? There isn't much to

Event id 27745 (Could not connect to config DB) in MOSS 2007 - what to do?
Hi all.
I just now noticed that my MOSS 2007 event log has tons of errors with
event id 27745. Neither Microsoft nor anyone else has any info about
this (if they do, Google hasn't picked it up yet).
The gist of the error message is that MOSS can't connect to the config
DB:
"#50007: Unable to connect to the database SharePoint_2007_Config on
SQL. Check the database connection information and make sure that the
database server is running."
The database is there as is the server. The user configured to access
the database from MOSS has the role of db_owner on the database in
question.
Other applications (MOM, IIS, etc) access the SQL-server (SQL 2k SP4)
without problems. The SQL server has an average CPU load of roughly
50% and memory usage of about 1,3 Gb out of 3 Gb so I don't think it's
timing out.
I get these errors in batches of 5 about every 10 seconds or so - very
frequently in other words.
As far as I can tell SharePoint behaves as it should except for the
odd missed alert or two. The reason I started investigating is because
a backup job didn't start, at all. I'm not sure if these errors are
connected to the SharePoint Timer Service though (as far as the Event
viewer is concerned they're not).
*Any* ideas on this is very much appreciated as I need to resolve this
ASAP.

Site Content Types issue
We have acquired MOSS 2007 which we hope to roll out soon and am
working through an excellent User Guide book to get me up to speed. I
followed some instructions related to creating custom Site Content
Types and have now inadvertently created one called Item that is
stored in the System and now applies a column to every single new list
or library that I now create.
I have tried deleting it but it tells me I can't whilst it is still in
use - fair enough - but I have also tried removing it from each and
every list and library that it appears in but the option to delete is
not available . The only way I can think to fix this is to move
everything across to another container so that I can start again and
so am currently looking into the Content Deployment Path option
Has anyone had the same problem or know the possible answer to this
and is moving them to another site the way to fix it? The idea of
using a test dump site to try out modifications like this first
appeals to me after this incident - is this standard procedure or do
people generally make changes to the live environment? Tag: database locked? Tag: 90810
Cannot make a working copy of my companyweb in Windows SharePoint
I have a //companyweb intranet site, and am trying to create a working copy
that I can develop against, then publish to the live site.
I have tried the following 3 approaches:
1) remote publishing to a directory on the web server, but when I open the
published site, some of the Sharepoint stuff doesn't work, because the site
requires Sharepoint Services to be running.
2) remote publishing to a Sharepoint server, which created a subdirectory
underneath my wwwroot directory on the web server. This too wouldn't load
correctly when I edit the aspx files in FrontPage.
3) creating a virtual sever on the webserver, set up against a directory
called c:\companywebWorkingCopy, and cheking the web server was up and
running. This is ok, but when I list the URL http://cwwc, the URL doesn't
exist, even though the web server shows as up and running.

How to add JavaScript to SharePoint controls?
Using MOSS 2007 and Publishing Site template.

I haven't found any way to add JavaScript to the RadioButtonChoiceField. I

Uninstall SPS2003, Leave WSS 2.0 Operational
All,
Our development team has done some work on an Intranet site using Sharepoint
Portal Server 2003 and WSS 2.0. We have since made a decision to go with a
pure-WSS solution for our Intranet.
We would like to uninstall the Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 components, but
leave our WSS 2.0 installation intact. Does anyone know if this is possible,
or any steps that need to be taken to accomplish this?
Additionally, I have seen the following article on uninstalling Sharepoint
Portal Server 2003: "Uninstalling SharePoint Portal Server":
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointportaladmin/HA011605181033.aspx
The following warning line from the article gives me pause:
"Warning Most files and subfolders located in installation folders will be
removed. All Microsoft SQL Server databases will be detached, but not
removed, from the database server. When you remove SharePoint Portal Server,
all user data is left in the database files"
If I uninstall SPS2003, can I just re-attach the databases on the SQL server
and expect the WSS sites to behave normally? Has anyone attempted this?
Any insights, personal experiences, suggestions, or articles are greatly
appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Modifying Deployed List Definitions
Hi All,
Does anyone have experience modifying an exiting list definition
that's already been deployed in Production? I'm running into problems
with existing sites that have been provisioned using site definitions
that contain the old list definition. When I replace the list's
SCHEMA.XML with the new version, the data in existing sites gets all
scrambled, i.e., data appears in the wrong columns.
Modifying the existing lists through the object model seems to work
fine, provided the old SCHEMA.XML is kept. If I update to the new
version of the SCHEMA.XML file, however, I again run into problems
when I try to save list entries programmatically. Any advice?

Can I control filenames in libraries?
Forgive any ignorance here - I am no SharePoint developer but am a
project manager trying to develop user training on some SharePoint
sites we are having built.
One of our sites contains a couple of Form libaries: Project Mandates
and Highlight Reports. Each library contains a link to create a new
document, which then opens in Infopath or the browser and then the
user has to fill in the form, save it to the local hard drive and then
upload the completed form back onto the SharePoint site - (I'm not
sure why there is no submit feature but maybe there's some reason I'm
not aware of).
The trouble is: using this process we can't control what people call
their files and - more seriously - we can't ensure they are uploading
the correct form into the correct library - we have already discovered
that the Highlight form can be uploaded into the Mandate library
(which then makes our summary report crash as it looks for fields in
all the documents that don't exist in the incorrectly uploaded one). I
understand that we can constrain what is loaded into a library by
document type but is there any way of insisting that uploaded files
are named in a certain way? Even if we could just say LLL0000 (or
equivalent) it would go someway to ensuring the right file gets
uploaded to the right library. Our IT developers tell us there is no
way of doing this but I am never one to take no for an answer too
soon...
If anyone has an idea of how we could get round this problem, I would
greatly appreciate any thoughts. Tag: database locked? Tag: 90774

PortalContext Taxonimy Error
I have a 2003 portal that has been heavily modified using CSS and javascript
which also gives the capability of dropdown lists for the horizontal
navigation bar. When running as a single server environment, everything is
great. I just created a clustered, load-balanced environment and have run
into issues. First, when I go to the virtual URL, it looks like it is
supposed to. When I go to either server URL directly, The dropdown tabs on
the horizontal bar are missing and it states that I have a "PortalContext is
Null" error. The code that is running was created by a previous developer
and I am currently looking over the code. I cannot seem to get past this
error and need help in understanding if it is the code that is causing this
or a server error due to something I did while building the environment.
Here is the environment:
Two servers running 2003 Server Enterprise/WSS&SPS 2003 SP2. They are
pointing back to a SQL 2005 cluster which is connected to an EMC SAN.
If it is based on the coding, that is fine and I can try to get the client
to revert back to OOTB with some decent branding. If it is something that I
caused, I need to know.

MOSS 2007 - problem with creating new document in document library
Hi,
I created standard document library for office word files.
When I click on New and edit document in Office 2003 and then I want to
upload it to library (by clicking Save button) it says "Server is busy"
error, and document can't be saved. I tried it on another moss
installation and it works fine. Do you have any ideas of purpose of this
problem? Any help appreciated
