Managed Paths MOSS 2007
We are in the process of upgrading from SPS 2003/WSS 2.0 to MOSS 2007/WSS
3.0. Our SPS 2003 Portal site layout looks like:
http://portal.company.com/ root
http://portal.company.com/bd/ subsite
http://portal.company.com/hr/ subsite
http://portal.company.com/legal subsite
http://portal.company.com/operations subsite
etc
etc
After the upgrade successfully completes we end up with just the root site
and no subsites. The managed path is an explicit inclusion for the root. How
do we add a path so all 100 or so subsites that are directly in the root can
be accessed? Explicit wildcard? Will that mess up the root site? Are we
missing something?

Problems with Vista and External SharePoint 2007
We established a External SharePoint 2007 server about 4 months ago. The
server requires users to enter a username and password upon entry,
authentication is against our external domain. Currently when our internal
users on a Microsoft Office (2003 or 2007) they are prompted to entry there
username/password once more time. After that then it will not prompt again.
We have now started the migration to Vista. My internal users are now
prompted for username/password every time they request to open a document
from our external SharePoint server. In reseaching the issue we have found a
registry fix, but would have to do it for each product in the Office Suite
and really would prefer not to do this route. we have also tested it outside
and have seen where it will prompt for the username/password but then at
other times will not when open the document. If any one could provide some
suggestions as to a possible solution, the assistance would be deeply
appreciated.

Is there a way to organize Documents Libraries in folders, or any

I have a situation where we need to have several document libraries in

Problem "Open in Excel' in EWA
Hi,
I have the following problem : I have a MOSS site that is not a root site
(its URL is something like http://server/sites/portal/default.aspx). I use
Excel Web Access and the Web rendering of Excel files works fine. But I
obtain an HTTP error 500 when I try to open the file in Excel. I noticed
that MOSS tries to open the file with a wrong URL like
"http://server/_layout/..."
Is there a way to fix this wrong URL ? Or do I have to reinstall my site on
the root (please, no...) ?

Possible for a workflow to export a List as CSV/XLS and email it to a
Is it possible with the MOSS workflow capability to setup a workflow
(e.g. I'm thinking a weekly "job") that would simply export a specific
List to "Excel format" (e.g. CSV, XLS) and email the result to a
specific recipient?
In discussions with my team, there's serious concern about the space
consumption that comes with turning on Versioning, but I think they'd
still like to be able to look back on non-appended field content in
case some detail is needed far off in the future. If we asked our
participants to update a List twice a month, then exporting a weekly
snapshot of the List should capture 99% of the updates without ever
having to remember to manually retrieve them.
I'm pretty confident on the "weekly" part (using a date-based trigger
for the workflow), but I don't know if the "export as Excel" is
something that can be automated at the server, nor whether this could
then be tied to an "email the result" kind of action.
Any thoughts or tips would be extremely appreciated. :) Tag: customizations to sharepoint templates Tag: 100154

Pesky 6938 Errors
Has anyone seen this?
I've got a slew of 6938 errors in my MOSS 2007 Enterprise event log. A
check of my Timer Jobs Status shows that my "SharePoint Services
Search Refresh" failed, and my "SharePoint Worker Process Group
Update" shows "Retry."
My error logs show that
"The Execute method of job definition
Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.Administration.SPSearchJobDefinition (ID
27ef3606-f944-4e8c-b93b-878d9abb8e96) threw an exception. More
information is included below. System policies must have Full
Control."
Okay, so at minimum it's a control issue. I check Central
Administration > Operations > Services on Server > Windows SharePoint
Services Search Service Settings to make sure I (as the administrator)
am assigned to the search service account, and I am. I double-check
and, for grins, re-log in as the administrator, and I get an error
stating that I need to have "Full Control". What the?!
I double check Central Administration > Application Management >
Policy for Web Application for a few of my web applications, and it
shows that as administrator, I have BOTH "'Full Control,' 'Full
Read.'" Both are checked, but when I uncheck "Full Read," the check
returns! It won't let me uncheck "Full Read."
Any thoughts? Anyone seen this before? Tag: customizations to sharepoint templates Tag: 100125

Incoming email messages only retrieved from one drop folder
I've enabled incoming email for my SharePoint installation. We have
two WFE servers, each running local SMTP in IIS. We are using the
automatic configuration setting in SharePoint Central Admin, and the
path to the drop folder is identical for each server. The
permissions
for each drop folder are identical--this includes the user that the
Timer Service job runs under, as well as the 2 worker process groups
(WSS_ADMIN_WPG and WSS_WPG). The WSS Web Application Service is
enabled for both servers.
Mail reaches the drop folder on both servers. However, only mail
from
one drop folder is being delivered to SharePoint; coincidentally,

just accumulating in the other folder.
What do I need to do so that mail is delivered to SharePoint from the

Site Collection confusion. What's happened here?
I set up SharePoint 2003 for this company with SPS and some subsites. Since

Does this mean they are site collections?
However, from Site Settings, some of the sites have site collection options

MOSS licencing: tracking of CALs

I understand each user requires a MOSS CAL when using MOSS within an

email address for domain accounts
Our organization has 2 domains (don't ask me why). Everyone has an account
in the parent kerberos domain, not everyone has an account in the AD child

So when somone wants to use SharePoint we create an account for them in the
child domain. The email team tells me this child domain account must not
include their email address or else the global address book would end up
with two entries for that person.
SharePoint ends up not having an email address for that person. I go edit
their profile settings and add it in. Later it gets removed again. I
presume this happens as part of the full user profile import on weekends.
Is there anyway I can get their email addres to stay after I manually enter
it in? I would like it to automaticly be there but at a minimum I'd like to
save what I have typed in.

Migrate all sites & settings from one server to another
Hi all,
I've inherited the support of a MOSS 2007 installation with little or
no documentation, which was done straight into the Production
environment. *ugh* In order to support and maintain this correctly, I
would like to get the Development boxes in-line with production and
then use this as a "base-line" for all future development (which will
be documented and repeatable).
So, is there an easy way to export "everything" (settings,
configurations, columns, Web Parts, pages, custom master templates,
etc.) from a production server (except for user content such as
documents in a document library, postings in a discussion group, etc.)
and import to a development server? Then I can use this as a base-
line for future development, and also to understand how it's been
built.
Many Thanks. Tag: customizations to sharepoint templates Tag: 100101

Simple infrastructure for MOSS deployment
Hi,
We have a requirement for installing MOSS for a small number of users,
mainly for document management. We don't need a high availability
solution, and hardware can be replaced within 1 hour.
We are planning to have a front-end web server, and a back-end SQL
database.
Questions:
* Is Active Directory required for MOSS. As a standalone system, is it
possible to create users as domain users or local accounts?
* If AD is required, is it possible to use one of the servers as AD
controllers?
* If we schedule indexing of documents in quiet period, is it possible
to have the search capability running of the front-end web server?
* Where does the search engine store its index files. Is it in SQL or
on the local storage?

SPFieldLookup in User Profiles?
Hi,
Wondering if it's possible to customize sharepoint profiles (in MOSS
2007) so they support a profile property based on a field lookup,
instead of a choice list.
I have several thousand users in my instance of MOSS. Each user can be
associated with one or more of 13,000 companies. I already have the
13,000 companies in a sharepoint list and would simply like to add a
profile property to the user profiles. This will allow users to select
all the companies they manage.
Basically, I'd like to replace the defined choice list with a true
sharepoint list.
Has anyone done this or can anyone imagine how I can accomplish this?

MOSS stsadm migration niggles
Greetings all,
Go easy on me, it's my first post.
So a little background. Looking at doing a migration of content and such
from one MOSS install to another as part of an initial release. Both
servers are running MOSS 2007, service packed and good to go.
For this migration, I'm using:
stsadm -o export -url http://moss -filename
c:\temp\bulkexport.cab -overwrite -versions 4 -includeusersecurity -cabsize
300
and the corresponding import after setup at the other end. For this I get no
errors and just one warning related to a Web Part issue I'm currently
investigating (likely not related to the below issue, as it's a single Web
Part).
I've succeeded in testing the migration with only a few small issues.
1. We're getting an error on some pages similar to the following:
Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web
page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as
Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your
Web server administrator.
This is because some of the data lists are using XSLT transforms, therefore
are using webparts. The code for these is similar to the following (it's a
little way down, apologies in advance, not easy to read). The problem is,
that when these pages are migrated, the GUIDs have to be manually
"realigned" in Sharepoint Designer on the destination MOSS server as they
don't match up correctly to the GUIDs of the lists. From the looks of this
url:
http://webborg.blogspot.com/2007/08/resolving-to-display-this-web-part.html
this seems to be a bug with Sharepoint Designer, but what I'm unsure of is
how this is still a problem after migration. Only thing I can suggest (I'm
yet to test this theory out) is that it's possible from reading that the
GUIDs aren't aligned because of the missing braces? I'm going to do some
more investigation into this, but wondering if anyone had ideas. Note the
example below is *after* the GUIDs have been changed and enclosed with {}.
The fix stated on this blog post definately works in this case however.

2. After migration, hidden state of navigation items is not persisted. This
specific site has two levels of nav, so this is a bit of a pain. To fix
this, got to go into
Site Actions -> Site Settings -> Modify Navigation
for each nav area and hide the nav items as appropriate. Is there a better
way to go about migrating navigation items, so that their state (hidden or
not) is preserved? Am I missing something on export that would correct this
issue?
Thanks in advance, and hope I've explained everything legibly.

Please advise, as using this feature would save me a lot of time and

I'm currently using Sharepoint Trial 2007 and it's expiring soon. I've just
bought the licensed version and am ready to install it. Can I just input
the new product key within the trial version or do I have to do a fresh
installation ?
Thanks.

VLOOKUP Type Function in a Calculated Column?
In SP2003, I have several "reference" lists. In another list (let's
call it the event log), I want to look up fields from the reference
lists automatically. Sort of like a VLOOKUP, where the user picks a
value in lookup field "A", and then calculated column "B" pulls in the
appropriate value from one of the reference list based on the users
choice in column "A".
This should be possible, right? Tag: customizations to sharepoint templates Tag: 100062
Searching a Custom List
Can anyone help me with this?
I need to be able to search a custom list (customers) on a sharePoint page.
This is the only list on this page. The client wants the searched list to
come back on the same page with only the results of that search. Should I be
using some kind of filter instead of a search? We have the enterprise
version of MOSS.
Any help is appreciated from you Pros... Moon Tag: customizations to sharepoint templates Tag: 100058
Anonymous Access to People Search
Hello All,
I am trying to have the people search available to non-authenticated
users. I have anonymous access turned on and I can search documents
and pages anonymously but when I go to search people, I get prompted
for my credentials. I have tried various searched on the Internet,
but nothing has helped.
Thanks,

Workflow, that changes fields in other custom list
Hi!
I'm using wss 3.0. Help me please to create some workflow.
I have a custom list with some details in it. Every detail could be verified
or not verified(every detail has a field "is verified" with checkbox that
shows "yes"/no).
I have and other custom list, with more columns, including details and
checkbox.
Can I do this workflow:
When detail in first custom list become verified(checkbox "yes"), records
with same detail in other list take the same value("yes")
If it could be done another way, tell me please Your ideas.

Publishing listitems on toplevel portals
Hello,
I have a sharepoint 2007 enterprise server with several portals. One portal
has several sub-portals in it. In one of the subportals i have created an
issuelist. I want to publish this list and possibly filter the listitems on
a toplevel portal. I can't however find a webpart to make this possible.
Does anyone here know how to realise this type of list publishing?
Best regards,

I have downloaded a number of templates from Microsoft. Is it possible to do
modifications to the webparts in the templates? If it's possible, how do you
do so?
