What we received from Version 2 Final

Hi.

We are wondering what does SharePoint Portal Server=20
version 2.0 will include?

Does it include SharePoint Team Services?
Will need to purchase FrontPage 2003?
Does we need to purchase Windows Server 2003?
Does we need to purchase SQL Server 2003?

SharePoint Portal Server 2 will include Windows SharePoint Services and MSDE
(as well as SPS). You will need to run this on a Windows 2003 Server.
SharePoint Team Services no longer exists as a product (going forward ... V1
still exists) and has been replaced with Windows SharePoint services which
is included with SharePoint Portal Server.

MSDE is the same engine as SQL 2000 but throttles speed after 5 users
connect, has a 2 GB store limit and does not allow connections from remote
machines (meaning that MSDE must run on the SharePoint server itself and you
cannot use a farm topology). You will need to purchase SQL 2000 if you want
to remove these restrictions.

FrontPage 2003 is not required but will make customizing your SharePoint
Portal Much easier.

No, it includes Windows SharePoint Services (== STS v2)

Certain amendments are only possible with FP. So it's a good idea for
the Administrator to have a copy of FP 2003.

It runs on a version of Windows 2003 Server (i.e. Server; Enterprise
Server; Data Center version) so you will presumably decide for yourself
which server version you want and buy that.

It requires SQL Server 2K.

Note: Only MS know how they intend to package it, but so far I have seen
nothing that indicates they are going to bundle it with Win 2003 Server
and/or SQL Server and/or FP 2003.
