Issue List Numbering bug??
I have created an issue list that i am using to track tasks, when a new event
is created a new issue id is also created, but they are not sequential, it
seems to be time based for example:
if i create 3 items within a 3 mins, they will appear as 4 , 5 , 6
if i create 3 items within an hour, they may appear as 7, 14, 23
so even though there are no issues 8-13, my next issue is 14
any way to correct this, as of now i have 17 actual issues, but the last
issue id was 34.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks. Tag: V2: Timeout Session Tag: 49155
Alert problem with changes to port
Hi,
We did a backup/restore from a WSS site on port 88 to a site on port 80. We
have since removed the site on port 88 but occasionally we have an alert
generated that says it was generated by the site on port 88 even though the
event that triggered the alert was from the site on port 80.
Any ideas?

The indicator that marks new items "!New" is displayed for more than 2days.
When I searched the internet the only thing I got is this:
By default, the indicator that marks new items is displayed until midnight
on the day the item is added. Your server administrator can configure a

Does anybody know where and how to configure this?

Customizing email alerts for lists in SPS
Hi All!
Im having difficulties customizing alerts sent by email in SPS. I've
edited the AlertResultNotification.xsl file in \Program
Files\SharePoint Portal Server\DATA\Alerts\<LocaleID>\ and I am able
to customize the layout of the email.
However, I want the alert to display the "description" and other custom fields
from the item in the list. This seems not possible as I can't control
the data that is contained within the "alert-XML" that SharePoint
produces for the AlertResultNotification.xsl.
Is there any way to do this?

portal 2001 site to a new 2003 server
Any one have any ideas on this??
I'm assuming that by running upgrade.exe I am 'telling the server' that the
site and content are going to be on the same server, but they are not. How do
i get the document links to change to a new server so I can actually migrate
sps2001 to a NEW sps 2003 server?

Crawling attachments in Exchange Public Folder
Hi,
This question was asked hundred of times in this newsgroup. SPS 2k3 is not
able to crawl attachments in an Exchange public folder and/or the SPS 2k3
Timer Service is not crawling the public folder and adding attachments to an
e-mail linked document library.
Now I have tried every trick in the manual, every suggestions and the
"Administrators Guide" as well.
We have a user called "BOService" in Active Directory and it's given the
following permissions:
1. Public folder (and the subfolder): Control access (full although
dangerous).
2. The MSSharePointPortalAppPool is using BOService credentials.
3. BOService is the account the SPS 2k3 crawler use to crawl Portal &
Non-Portal content.
What else do you I need to do so this works! :(
I would appreciate all suggestions & hint in regards to the above.
Thanks,

Can I edit access a access 2000 on sharepoint 2003, without upload
How can I edit an access 2000 form on sharepoint 2003. Instead of saving the
changes to the portal it saves it by default to the C: drive of my computer,
which means other uses can not access the updated file.
On the help section its states that is using office 2000 you can save it
with original name to the document library of portal, but this doesn't seem
to work for access or any other office 2000 application.

Show Preferred Name for Posted By field in Discussion library
Hi guys,
I have a client requirement to show a users Preferred Name in the
Posted By field of a Discussion List, as opposed to the default
username that gets presented. They don't want to see the domain
name\usernamd..but a more friendly view.
Does anyone know if this is possible? At the minute I have converted
the discussion list to a Data View WebPart and am wondering if I can
manupulate the XSL to show the preferred name. Unfortunately I cannot
find a link to the default schema to see if the preferred name is even
available. if not, can I embed some sort of funtion into the XSL to
perform this lookup?

Crawl account permissions and alerts not firing
Hi there
When I use an admin account as the default content crawl account, users
alerts fire correctly.
We do not want to use an admin account as we don't want users search results
to display results users do not have permissions to see.
However, when I remove the admin rights of the crawl account, user alerts do

Relationship between Content index and Source Group
I am confused with context index and source group in Share Point
search setting.
1. In context index setting, you can specified a source group. that
means one context index can't only contains one source group.
2. When you create a context source, you must specify one context
index, and any one of the source group. it looks like there is no
relationship between context index and source group.
From my understanding, context index is the physical place that the
index is created, source group is categonization. when we use search
web service, we use context index, when we use share point search
(specify scope), we use source group.
I don't know why you need to specify source group in the context index
page, what this is for? Tag: V2: Timeout Session Tag: 49127

Configure Sharepoint 2003 to acces Exchange 2k3 within "My Site"
Hello all,
First off I would like to say thank you to anyone who responds.
The issue is I'm trying to access my Exchange 2003 Inbox and Calendar via My
Site on Sharepoint 2003. I've configured the "Mail server address" to be
https://exchange_host_name/exchange and the "mailbox" with my user name.
This will bring up the "Security Alert" window because the host name does
not match the name used to register the SSL certificate for OWA. After
clicking yes i receive the OWA logon screen within the Sharepoint site. I
then need to type in my username and password which will bring up my Inbox.
If I click on Calendar my calendar comes up. As soon as I close/open my
browser and navigate to My Site\Inbox I'm forced to click yes to the SSL
security warning and log into the OWA logon page. I've tried replacing the
https with http which will remove the SSL warning but I get the same results
with having to login to OWA everytime My Site is accessed.
I'm running Exchange 2003 Enterprise Sp1 on a W2k3 Std. server with SSL
required for OWA along with Forms Based Authentication. This is not a Front
End/Back End environment but will soon be. Sharepoint is split into two
seperate boxes, one being a web box and the other being a DB box.
I'm not the Sharepoint admin or implementer so I don't know if it is
configured properly but I don't believe I should need to logon to the email
part every time I access My Site. There should be some kind of user account
passthrough.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Local admins are sharepoint admins
I work for a company as a tier 3 support person. I have because of this
domain admin rights. By default domain admins are put in the local
administrators group on each server. this means that most of my colleagues

I realise that we may be unusual but this does present difficulties.

Linking Cell In Excel in Sharpoint Document Libraries
Here we go....
1.) I have a team site that has serveral document libraries in it with
security setup for certain personel to have contributor access to their own
document library.
There are 2 excel spreadsheets in this document library. When you click on
one of these it pulls information from a cell in the other spreadsheet that
resides in the same document library and everything is fine.
2.) There is another document library in this particular team site that
security is setup so that the personel that have contributor rights to their
own document libraries DO NOT have but VIEW LIST rights to this document
library. (clear as mud yet) haha.
3.) back to number 1.) where personel clicks on the spreadsheet in their
own document library and it is pulling data down from the other spreadsheet
in their own document library it is also pulling data from the spreadsheet in
the document library that they only have VIEW LIST rights to. Everything
still works but it brings up that spreadsheet after opening the original
spreadsheet. We are not sure why it is coming up even if it is pulling the
correct information out of that spreadsheet.
Question is..... is there another way to keep this spreadsheet from coming
up other than giving more access to the document library that only has VIEW
LIST rights on it??
We are not sure why security would be an issue here and just wandering if
anyone has come accross this???
I know this is long but I appreciate any input.

local administrators are sharepoint administrators
Now I work for a company as a tier 3 support person. I have because of this
domain admin rights. By default domain admins are put in the local
administrators group on each server. this means that most of my colleagues
for whom I am trying to set up sharepoint portal server are also doing the
same thing and can all administer sharepoint.
I realise that we may be unusual but this does present difficulties.
Is there any way around this at all ??

File Size timeouts
I have an overall 20MB file size limitation set for our portals; however, in
many cases it takes a LONG time to get a file size error; much of the time
the user just waits for 5+ minutes and never gets anything (they then need to
CTRL-ALT-DEL to get out of the upload), or assorted PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED
etc. come up.
Is there any way to configure timeouts or other parameters relating to
behavior when the file size a user is trying to upload exceeds the set limit?

Cannot access, rename or delete folder in SPS2001
I am running SPS2001 with SP3. Recently, a user has renamed a folder in the
document library from "S and P" to "S and P, including S&P-MSCI GICS Direct"
Trying to access this folder via HTTP gives a 404 page not found error.
Accessing it via a network place gives:
Query cannot be completed because of the error (0xc004800a): No description
was found for this error.
If I try to rename it, I get:
Folder cannot be renamed because of the error (0xc004800a): No description
was found for this error.
I believe there were 3 docs in that folder that I would like to get back.
They are no biggie though, I would at least like to be able to remove or
rename this folder.
I have not found any references to this error number in the KB or on google.

SharePoint SQL DB
We have a SharePoint Portal server on our network, however, the SQL DB
resides on another server that we use for Great Plains because this is where
our licensed SQL 2000 is loaded.
Having SP point to this other server for SQL DB purposes won't create a
problem for GP, or will it????? Have we violated any MS best practice? Tag: V2: Timeout Session Tag: 49082
SPS 2001 SP3 Restore failure
I am trying to load the backup file from my live server to a test server.
They are both running W2K Advanced Server SP4 and SPS 2001 SP3. The restore
runs for a couple of hours but then (after the data files has seemingly
finshed being restored) I get the error message "8007000D" "The data is
invalid"
Do both servers need to have exactly the same partition setup wtih SPS
loaded on identical partitions? The live server has the data file on a
different partiton than the application. the test server has only a large C:
partition.

Alphabetize Views
Is there any way to alphabetize or otherwise rearrange the items in the
"Select a View" column of a custom list? I have a list with dozens of
different views on it, and whenever I create a new view it adds it to the
bottom of the list. For ease of use, I'd like to alphabetize it. Any idea
how?

SPS2003 installation confusion - help!
Hi Folks
We are planning a single server SPS2003 to be used for things such as our
college intranet/website. We will be running Windows Server 2003 and SQL
Server 2000 Std. I've read a fair amount of the documentation but am still
confused about various things - primarily what accounts should be used
during installation.
1. During the installation of SQL server we will be asked for what type of
authentication we want. Which should we choose? SQL or integrated?
2. What account should we specify for SQL? A local or domain account? Should
this be an existing account such as a domain admin?
3. During the SPS installation we are asked a similar thing. The account
needs to have at least power user status on the local machine. I take it
that I could use a domain account and add it to the power users group on the
server for this purpose. Should this be a domain account? Should I create an
account specifically for this? What are the pros and cons?
Apologies for so many questions.
Cheers

need help with alerts set up
is there a way to set up alerts in each document library within a site all at
once? or is this something that has to be setup one at a time. Tag: V2: Timeout Session Tag: 49073
Need help setting up alerts
I have a few owners of the company I work for, that watch to see if documents
are regularly updated. These documents are in several differant sites, and
document libraries.
Is there a way to set up alerts for multiple sites and/or document libraries
at the same time?
Or does this have to be set up on each document library in each site one at
a time?
they visit hundreds of sites and it would take hours to setup each alert one
at a time. Tag: V2: Timeout Session Tag: 49072
Rich Text Editor
I am having issues with the Rich Text Editor not working correctly in
Sharepoint Services. It works on some machines and not others. When I go
to edit content, I get a pop-up message saying "Cannot open the Rich Text
Editor".
I found a previous thread that discussed this error but nothing was ever
resolved. Does anyone know the cause of this?
The specific machine that I am having problems with has XP, Office 2003 and
Frontpage loaded. I've cleared the browser cache, added the server into the
trusted zone, made sure javascript was enabled, and all the other little
browser configs that I could think of. Nothing seems to be working.
Here is a link to the previous thread on this topic:

Replicating data in a sharepoint web farm
We are installing a 2003 SP farm and want to use two
servers in an NLB cluster acting as web front ends. I
cannot find any info on the recommended method for
sychronizing the web content between these two boxes -
can anyone point me in the right direction? We've been
looking into using DFS to do it.

Portal alert schedule isn't taking effect
I've set my weekly and daily alerts to be sent at 1pm accoring to the 24 hour
clock. I also checked using the GetProperty function to make sure my alert
schedule took effect. The server was even rebooted after we made the change.
However, users are still getting alerts in the middle of the night on the
old schedule.
What else can you do to force it? I've checked both the specific virtual
server and the alert settings for the entire farm and both show alerts should
be sent at 13:00. Ideas?

Is it possible to configure a timeout session for SPS?
Say,after idle for 10 minutes, the user should reenter
username and password to access the portal.
You can configure the machine policy to expire idle users
after a certain period of time.
