    - Pivot Chart in Excel Doesn't Re-Publish I have an excel spreadsheet from which I published a Pivot chart to the web. The Pivot chart was based on data from an external (Access) database. I set it to Autopublish on every Save. I uploaded the excel file to a Sharepoint server. Now when I go in and open the Excel chart and refresh the data, then save the file, it doesn't re-publish with the new data. help!     - Wishlist for Sharepoint -- Hi Everyone, After working with SPS and WSS for over a month now, I've compiled a 'wish list' of things I hope to either find online or create on my own to add more features and functions to our installation of Sharepoint. Each of these items I think would make Sharepoint so much more useful, and I can't see any reason why Microsoft didn't add them from the beginning. 1) Roll-up Calendars, Document Libraries, Events, etc that cross from SPS and WSS. You select what rolls up to what no matter where it falls in your site layout. 2) Access any List from any other site. So for example I could create a WSS page for HR with a Document Library, then access that Document Library from a Portal SubArea just as if I were looking at it from the HR WSS site. 3) Make any web part accessible from any site. For example, in SPS when I create a subarea, why can't I add Events to this? Events WP is only accessible from the Portal page (http://sharepoint/ in my case). 4) Easier way to create templates from SPS SubAreas. 5) Built-in Recycle Bin. I have instructions on how to set this up, and I plan on doing this to each of my Team Sites soon. Why isn't this standard? After taking a close look at the database it looks like many of these features would be quite simple to do, just need to work out the details on what rows to copy and what fields in each row to change. I already have a test SQL script written to roll-up calendars... and this makes me scratch my head even more though. If someone who knows as little about sharepoint as I can do this, why wouldn't someone add these features into Sharepoint from the drawing board? Also why are add-in features that do this so expensive? Thanks for all the help everyone's given me and all the other folks learning Sharepoint. Microsoft makes it sound like Sharepoint is so customizeable that anyone can do anything with it -- but they leave out the bit about needing to be an experienced MS programmer.     - Sharepoint Portal Services domain migration issue Everyone, I've run into a problem migrating Sharepoint Portal Services from one domain to another. I've run the following line of code ... PortalAccountMigrationManager.MigrateAccount(oldDomain + "\\" + username, newDomain + "\\" + username, true); That seemed to have run ok. I checked the Users area under "Site Settings" and all of the users have the new domain against their username. The problem comes when a user goes to check out a file from a document library. They're being prompted for a username/password even though they have security to checkout files. They're logged onto their PC with the new domain so Sharepoint should be pulling the authentication directly from their login but that doesn't seem to be the case.     - How to view a Team Sites (WSS) Document Library in a Portal (SPS) SubArea I've never really found a good answer to this question, so I thought I'd post it to the room. I have various department Team Sites created (WSS), and I'd like to access the Shared Document Library of each Department on a Portal SubArea (SPS). Is there anyway to do this? I've read it can be done in Frontpage, but I've yet to find any instructions on how to do it. So simple question --- possible? Yes or no. And if yes, is there a how-to or something to explain how to do this? I'm not a Microsoft programmer, nor am I proficient in Front Page, so I'll need a how-to with some hand holding if this is possible. I'm slowly learning how all this comes together, but reading pages upon pages of text does me little good... I learn by example, so good how-tos or step-by-step tutorials are what I really need.     - Can I make 'My Site' public view show Exchange web parts? I have setup Exchange links to My Inbox, Calendar, My Tasks but would like other people to be able to view these. As far as I can tell, only users apart from my self, can view the Public view. Is there a way to add these Exchange web parts to my personal site in the 'public view'?     - Backing up to a Network Location Hi everyone, I can use the Backup and Restore locally, on the Sharepoint Server itself, but when I try to backup the Sharepoint Data to a network location, the database files don't get backed-up. I just get one file titled backup.xml copied into the network location. I am using the spsbackup.exe \all .... command to perform the backup. Why would this be failing on the Network location?     - How many subsites a sharepoint portal can have? Hi, I have developed a webpart which generate the subsites data in a tabular form. I just want to know that how many subsites can sharepoint easily hold. As I have done some testing and around 1000 subsites sharepoint seems very very slow and could not able to perform any action because of time out.     - Connect Project Server to Portal Server Hello, we are running two separate servers, Project Server 2003 and SPS 2003. Each project on the project server has its own WSS page. These pages are under "../project-server/projects", not the default "../project-server/sites" (a wish from the project department). I would like to index the project pages with our SPS. Trying to add the site in the index was not successful (SPS insists that the site is called "sites", no way to make it understand "projects"). So, at the moment, each site is added by hand to the list of WSS sites to be indexed, which is tedious and error-prone work particularly for adding new projects. Is there a way to integrate the Project Server into the server farm of SPS? Or any simpler solution to get the project pages indexed?     - Problem hidding tasks from other Users Plz Help if you can. I setup a task page where the sales manager can asign tasks to the sales reps. But the Sales reps must only be able to see and edit the tasks asigned to them. If I set security to view own and edit own - then the sales reps see nothing as the Manager captured the tasks.     - Problem Sicherung eines Dokuments innerhalb einer Zip-Datei in Sharepoint Hallo zusammen, ich habe folgendes Problem: Auf SharePoint befindet sich ein gezipptes Word-Dokument. =DCber die Exploreransicht =F6ffne ich die Zip-Datei. Das enthaltene Worddokument =E4ndere ich und speichere es ab. Das Zip-Archiv wird aktualisiert. Durch die Ersetzung des Worddokuments im Zip-Archiv, wird gleichzeitig eine neue Zip-Datei erstellt. und eine Vesion Nr. 2 auf SharePoint erzeugt. Im Verlauf wird nun eine 2. Versionierung angzeigt, die dasselbe Datum und diesselbe Uhrzeit tr=E4gt, wie Version Nr. 1. Auch inhaltlich stimmen beide Versionen miteinander =FCberein. Wird das Zip-Archiv vor der Bearbeitung ausgecheckt, ist der Sachverhalt dergleiche, mit dem Unterschied, da=DF auf SharePoint das ausgecheckte Dokument duch ein neues Zip-Archiv ersetzt wurde und somit das ausgecheckte nicht mehr vorhanden ist. Anmerkung: Eine Bearbeitung des Zip-Archives in der normalen Sicht bringt folgenden Fehler: Das im Zip-Archiv eingebettete Worddokument wurde ver=E4ndert und gesichert. Die =C4nderungen des Dokumentes sind bei erneutem Aufruf nicht vorhanden, d. h. die =C4nderungen werden im Dokument nicht gesichert. Dies ist nur m=F6glich =FCber die Explorersicht.     - Web folder asks for user login I recently migrated our 2001 server to 2003. Our documents are stored in the Backward Compatible Document Library. I can map a web folder using http://servername/documentlibraryname. I can't map to a web folder with http://www.myweburl.com/documentlibraryname. A login window keeps popping up and it seems to ignore anything I type in. I've been searching for a solution, but I have not had any luck. I've got http://www.myweburl.com listed in the trusted sites of IE. This has not helped. Integrated security is on and I'm accessing it from my local network. Any suggestions?     - Templates not displaying in Portal I uploaded the templates that Microsoft has on their website for Sharepoint. However, I'm trying to access them and setup some sites within SPS. When I create a new site and choose a template, I only see the default templates. How do I get the newly uploaded templates to be a choice?     - Org Chart webpart I'm on a pretty tight budget and am looking for a good Org Chart web-part that will display my AD org chart in the box fashion as well as a list view.     - Server Installation Question I am installing Sharepoint Portal 2003, with the front end on it's own dedicated server and the back end (SQL) on another server. I already have a brand new SQL Server, HP ML370, 4GB, 2 processors. This server has 5 SQL apps, that does not push this server, Great Plains, Work order system, ArcServer and a couple of other Apps. Question: Can I / Should I install the SQL backend of Portal on this same HP server or should I dedicate another SQL server solely for Sharepoint 2003? The data file for Sharepoint was 25GB on our 2001 Sharepoint server and the same data is moving over to the 2003 Sharepoint, so unless the SQL database is smaller then Exchange, lets assume 25GB data with maybe 10 GB data growth over the next few years. I'd like to have just 1 SQL server to manage (and to purchase backup agents for) if it's feasible, but more importantly, I'd like to give Sharepoint the optimal config and if it needs it's own SQL server, that's fine too.     - Enterprise Portal COOP (Continuity of Operations) Does anyone have any experience they can share with Enterprise SharePoint solutions that involved a COOP implementation? This would be duplicating an entire SharePoint infrastructure in a separate location as a hot standby in case the primary infrastructure became unavailable. It would also involve some type of on going replication from the primary to the standby, maybe using something like EMC SRDF, and in the advent of a failover, a replication of the changes made on the standby replicated back to the primary once it is available again.     - How to restore sharepoint hey, i had sharepoint 2003 installed on my server and probably i unistalled it or just installed it again by accident. now i need to restore the sites i had on this DB. i found only the STS_Server_Number DB on the SQL DB and i opened the tables and found all the data there (web details and docs details). i didn't found the STS_COFIG_NUMER there, but just other STS_CONFIG files, apparently from the ather installations. i tried to add the contect DB, but i get "current number of sites: 0". and when i add a site i get : 1 site, and in the WEBS table i see the details of the ner site, also with the details of all the other webs. it is really important for me to restore this site or at least just the docs i had on it. thanks! So the big question... where to begin? Do I lock myself in my office for months learning Visual Studio.Net from books? Do I take some classes?
