    - Problems with checking in the document. Hi everyone, I'm now using Sharepoint Portal Server 2007. I created a document library, and in each versioning settings, i enable major and minors versioning and require check out. Then i uploaded a document and check in. However, later when i tried to checkout and edit the document, the right side panel of the MS Word that shows "check in" is diabled, and it says it is checkout by me. There are two options in creating site content: Pages and Sites. - Sites should be used when a page contains sub-content (sub-pages or sub-sites). - Pages should be used when there is no sub-content. In hierarchical tree terminology, a 'leaf' or 'end node' represents a page and a 'parent node' represents a site. The hierarchy of sites and pages will create the breadcrumb/site path and menus automatically. The global menu does not include pages by default, but can be manually configured.     - InfoPath forms "capsule" layout I'm just starting to play with InfoPath, I've designed a form template and populated an XML record. It appears in the "table" for that template. Cool. But I don't want to display it in a table-- I'd like to design my own read-only "capsules" which can be multi-line (after all, news portals display content nodes as capsules and not as line-items). This is basically what MS Access supplied a dozen years ago with "continuous forms." Is this standard in 2003, or is it just a matter of writing a custom web part? Will 2007 make this standard?     - Infopath 2007 with Database issue I have created an InfoPath 2007 form template where I have only labels, textboxes and datepickers.One of the textboxes is the username textbox that has the name of the logged in user as default value.My goal is to send this name to an SQL database and retrieve the relevant data for the user and fill in the textboxes. I have set a data connection for the database, and I can retrieve the data, but I can not send anything. So I opened the form with Visual Studio Tools for Applications and that resulted in a C# project for me. At this point I am stuck. I can see the data connection by code but I can not reach the fields and I do not know how to send and get back the data by code. In many forums the thisXDocument object is referred, but for me it is not accessible I do not know why. Any suggetion/help would be appreciated.     - MOSS 2007 Restricting AD accounts Hi I have an AD server with all my company's users account (say there are 100 accounts). We are setting up MOSS for Dept A and B use only. There are only 40 users. We setup the MOSS to use the company AD server. I create a groups (call MOSS) and have inlcude the 40 users in the group. I have setup the AD connection in MOSS to filter and only import users who are members of the MOSS group. That's well and good. But I notice when I go to a Site Admin to add a user, I can still add any AD users (even if they are not in the MOSS group). We intend to allow the user site administration to manage the site user accounts. Is there any way that I can restricted such that ONLY certain AD users can be added? (ie in the example above, I want to allow the Site Admin to only add AD users who are members of the MOSS groups and not other AD users) Any help would be much appreciate!     - Disable Automatic Search for Network Printers and Folders in Windows XP Hi All, I want to use Network places for SharePoint Navigation. The steps are as follows: Create network places for all WSS sites. So user can see the WSS sites under network places, while saving or opening a MS office document. This will certainly improve the usability and navigation. The issue with Network places is that It automatically create shortcut icon in network places, once you access any portal/wss site or network shared folder. I want to disable this functionality, so it only show my WSS sites as network place and I can update it through group policy every weekend for new WSS sites.     - Problem installing Office Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 on Server 2003 Hello, I'm having trouble installing SPS 2003 on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. It is a clean install of Server 2003 I am using. When I tried to install SPS 2003 I get an error message saying "SharePoint Portal Server requires ASP.NET. Please install ASP.NET.........." Which was fine originally because IIS and ASP.NET weren't installed by default with Server 2003. However, after going back and installing the Application Server components of Server 2003 I am still getting the same error message. Can anyone help? I came across a thing is that I will need to configure Axapta's Enterprise Portal and register the sharepoint website that will be using the webparts in order to be able to connect to the data in Axapta.     - Creating Views in _Prof db Hello, I found this interesting article here: http://www.codeproject.com/dotnet/QueriesToAnalyzeSPUsage.asp and would like to create database views based on some of these queries. While I realize that there's a general rule of thumb against modifying the sharepoint database, how does this rule of thumb relate to creating views like these which simply run select statements against the database? My sense is that it should be alright, but I wanted to put this out there in case anyone else has any "gotchas" that might make creating these views ill-advised.     - Script Source Access Settings in SharePoint Portal 2003 (Using SharePoint Portal 2003 on a Windows Server 2003 machine) We have a beta site, used for 4 months w/o error, that was to go live on Monday. While making some final tweaks we found that some redirect scripts would not run on the server. we have delayed this launch. However, it looks like "scripts souce access" was enabled at the root in the MMC for IIS on this site. now the default.aspx page may or may no laod, and none of teh Portal functions are working. Add/edit/delete gives uses an error on a .dll file in the _vit_bin folder.     - Creating list from Sharepoint Database Hello. I have to create a sharepoint list from the Sharepoint DB. Its a long story to explain but I don't have another way to do it. I've been going over many pages and I was trying to build on my mind the sharepoint database structure to create a list. I found out that the involved lists are: Lists: Each entry for each list. UserData: stores the lists content. Docs: stores all the documents of all sites in site collections represented by the database. Also I've been reading the "proc_CreateList" and the "proc_AddListItem" stored procedures but there are a couple of parameters that I've no idea what they mean. New Server was placed behind revere proxy server. It is works, users can login... Then documents from the old portal were imported to the new one.     - Disable Save As as option Hi all, As per previous unanswered posting... If I have a user set as a reader on the site, is there any way I can disable the save as feature for them. So for example, if they were to access a word document that has been uploaded to the doc library on a site where they have read access, they will see the save as feature disabled?     - Documents open ReadOnly (Word 2003) even when "Edit in .." is sele Hi, A specific subset of our customer's userbase cannot edit Sharepoint [SPS2003 SP2] documents in Microsoft Word 2003. The users follow the exact same procedure and has the same software stack (Word 2003 on Windows XP2) as others who can edit. The documents are checked-out correctly and they use the "Edit in Microsoft Word" option. The problem is that the document opens with "Read-only" in the title bar and cannot save back. One significant difference is that the "error" group are not administrators on their local PC. Once we assign them this permission, the problem is resolved. The customer does not want to give local administrative permission to all users on the network. There are also other network sites where the users also does not have local admin permissions, yet their Sharepoint / Word 2003 read-write functionality behaves correctly. We are unable to locate the fine-grained permission that causes this behavior. I found a reference to a KB article that may solve the issue - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=870853 talks about adding a OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing key to the registry. The customer is not prepared have us test this and is requesting more information on this key's behavior. I am looking for an explination of what this key actually does or if there is another solution to the "ReadOnly in non-local-administrator" problem.     - Site search works but portal level doesn't. Hi all. I'm working with an installation of SharePoint Portal Server 2003. It's configured with a web front end and a SQL 2000 back end. We have it configured with multiple portals setup on multiple websites seperated by different IP's in IIS all on the same web server. Each portal has multiple sites under the portal level. The portals are all running with SSL. Everything works great with the application and the client is getting ready to roll it out to their users. There's one item left holding us back. The searching at the portal level doesn't work. If I drill down to the site level the search returns the expected results. When I take that same criteria up to the portal level no results are returned. The user I'm using is configured as a domain administrator and has rights to all portals, sites, and documents. Search is configured with the defaults except that I removed the portal include content indexes and recreated them to include list items. I have one portal that is working. To make that portal work I removed the non-portal exclude index. Once I removed that, the portal level search returns results. I tried that on the other sites and it made no differences. I've reset the content indexes and did full updates. Content is found and searchable at sites but not portal. If you guys could provide any help I would really appriciate it.     - Looking for documentation on web publishing features We're setting up SharePoint internally here. A major choice in our vendor selection is that it's already included in our MSDN license. How nice. :-) I'm looking for a normative document which explains, for a given feature, a) What's in SPS2003 b) What's worth waiting for in SPS2007 c) What's worth spending $$ for from 3rd-party add-ons. The MSDN has tons of documents, of course, but I haven't found one to outline this. There are many blog posts here and there, but blog posts are often not written in the normative style, and thus haven't been updated recently. e.g., regarding discussion lists, here's an <a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/bowerm/archive/2005/01/11/350750.aspx">observation from Mark Bower on MSDN</a>, but it hasn't been updated in 16 months. What I'm looking for specifically is how to demonstrate the features common to Drupal and other CMS's. For "basic web page" articles: 1. Discussions directly on page 2. History/versioning 3. Edit HTML directly 4. Facet-based navigation I have figured out how to create document metadata towards #4, but I'm still not quite sure this enables facet-based navigation.     - Create Doc Lib - Programmatically Hello All, I am trying to programmatically create a document library in sharepoint portalserver using the 2003 object model. I can do this fine when i want to create the normal document library however i have created my own document library template and that's the document library i want to create. Here is my code. SPSite oSite = new SPSite("http://cig-dev-sps01"); SPWeb oWeb = oSite.OpenWeb("/C2/Content"); oWeb.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true; SPListTemplate template = null; template = oWeb.ListTemplates["Cowan Normal Document Library"]; System.Guid guid; guid = oWeb.Lists.Add("Erin Document Library","Test",template); My templates name is Cowan Normal Document Library and it's file name is CowanDocLib.stp however if i put either of these names in i get an error "Value does not fall within the expected range" ... if i try using "Document Library" it works just fine.     - Execute permissions and ISAPI enabling on a Sharepoint Portal 2003 server We are considering the use of a program called OrgPublisher which needs to be installed on a web server since it publishes HTML org chart reports. Our management is debating whether or not to install the application on our Sharepoint Poratl Server 2003 server, on which we host our company intranet. The first area for concern is that the virtual directory that the OrgPublisher content resides in must allow "execute permissions for scripts and executables". Is this acceptable on an intranet server running SPS 2003? The second area for concern is that the OrgPublisher requires that IIS be "ISAPI enabled". I am not sure specifically what means, and it may be irrelevant since the server uses the ASP.net ISAPI filter by default (so is in essence enabled?). I know by default the SPS 2003 server prohibits "all unknown ISAPI extensions". Does anyone have any insight as to whether or not this is a healthy mix on our intranet server (SPS 2003 plus OrgPublisher)? Thanks in advance for any advice!     - moss 2007 calendar Hi, I'm having problems adding the "my calendar" web part to my site. I keep getting a login box for the outlook web access. I have to use "https://<mailserver>/exchange with "https://<mailserver>" I get a 404. with "http://<mailserver>" I get a 403.4. Outlook web access is only configured to work only on https.     - Can somebody who represents Microsoft please clarify the .NET 2.0 on SPS question? OK, I've googled and googled. I've checked out MSDN. I've searched through these groups, and here's what I think I understand: 1. WSS can run on top of .NET 2.0 2. SPS can not. The problem is, that's just not OK. .NET 2.0 has been out since last November, and most of us have been building software on top of it since the betas. We have mountains of code that are predicated on it's features (generics, etc.), that we need to be able to use as libraries of code in building SPS Web Parts. Now, the release date of 2007 keeps slipping (and, keep in mind, is based on .NET 2.0, at a time when .NET 3.0 has a CTP available as of June 26th of this year), and still, we have no version of SPS 2003 that can run on top of .NET 2.0? We have hacked around, and have found that we can "sort of" run the SPS environment as a 2.0 app, assuming that you're OK with about half the administration functions being broken (can't add new users for example, unless you switch temporarily back to 1.1, add, then back to 2.0). I guess that's fine for me, running on a non-production ready instance, but I can't legitimately go to clients with that as an answer forever... So ladies and gents, throw me a bone. When is an SPS 2003 Service Pack coming that supports running SPS 2003 on .NET 2.0? If the answer is never, then... Well, then that's an enormous problem. It's a clear deal breaker for SharePoint. The interest in getting into SharePoint is there for my clients (lots and lots of them), but not if they're shackled to building only on 1.1 (which was released in April 2003 - over 3 long years ago). If you force me to keep sending them away from SharePoint now, there's little likelihood that they're going to come back to it magically next year when 2007 finally ships... Any official comment?     - Sharepoint Portal Server Versions I am using a version of Sharepoint Portal Server that was purchased and installed because of using Team Server with Microsoft Visual Studio. Now we are looking at using this server as an intranet portal as well. Does anyone know if the version that comes with Team Server is a full Sharepoint Portal Server install, I keep running into differences in online documentation. it has left a number of SQL Connections. Can the number of connections
