Is the View setup to hide expired announcements? Here are some instructions
to set that up-

Note: This does not apply to the expanded view of the announcements web
part. In the expanded view you can still access all announcements until they
are permanently deleted manually.

1) Select Edit Page under the Actions menu; Select the arrow to the right of
the announcements title bar and select Modify Shared Web Part.
2) Under Selected View, select Edit the Current View.
3) Under Filter, select these options:
- Select Show items only when the following is true:
- Under Show the items when column, in the first drop down select Expires.
- In the second drop down select is greater than or equal to.
- In the field, enter [Today].
4) Select OK.

Hi Heather,
thanks for the quick response. So, on SPS we have to set up a filtered view?
I guess I was thinking that it was would work the same as WSS - expire them
out of view without anything extra? Not the case?

You don't have to set up a filtered view, you can adjust the existing default
view. I don't think the announcements web part expires items by default, I
think you have to adjust it for either SPS or WSS, but I could be wrong.

Where should I adjust the existing default view?
As I see it the only way is to set up a filtered view :(

On your Portal page...
1) Under Actions in the left menu, select "Edit Page".
2) Select "Modified Shared Page" in the upper right; Select "Modified Shared
Web Parts"; Select "Announcements" list.
3) The tool pane loads in the left. Select "Edit the current view"
4) Under Filter, select these options:
- Select Show items only when the following is true:
- Under Show the items when column, in the first drop down select Expires.
- In the second drop down select is greater than or equal to.
- In the field, enter [Today].
5) Select OK.
