I need to allow external users to access some of our Sharepoint sites. I
have added rules in our firewall that allow the FES in the DMZ to connect
with the SQL server which sits behind the firewall. However, I get the
following error message: "Cannot connect to the configuration database. For
tips on troubleshooting this error, search for article 823287 in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com". KB823287 does not
help.

The server works fine when behind the firewall so I am presuming this is
firewall configuration. Please advise which other ports require opening. I
read one article about having to open ports on the firewall to the DCs but I
am nervous about doing this for security reasons.

Please advise.
