    - Document Aliases, or Uploading to Multiple Document Libraries/Fold I'm sorry for the newbie post. I experimented, searched through the documentation, and searched online for several hours before posting. Is there a way to have the same physical document appear in multiple locations in a SharePoint site?     - Automated Content Policing Howdy, Is there a way to automate changing of user permissions based on document content? I know there are utilities to refuse or quarantine document uploads based on content (the obvious example is antivirus filtering).     - spsbackup - the sharepoint backup tool must execute on a web client I'm setting up a test system here to restore a production sharepoint and I've come across something I don't understand. When I execute spsbackup it gives me a message like 'The sharepoint backup tool must execute on a web client', I say like because I'm translating from spanish where the original message is 'La herramienta de copia de seguridad de sharepoint portal debe ejecutarse en un equipo client web'. My setup is 2003 server with sql 2000 (enterprise) and sps 2003. My initial reaction was to instal the sql client tools but this has had no effect. What on earth does it mean by client web? - WebDav client? Sql client? I've searched around without finding anything so far. I've also reinstalled both sql 2000 and sps 2003, just in case.     - Assign Multiple documents to an area listings I am in the process of setting up a Sharepoint portal Server 2003. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to assign more than one document at a time to an area listings? Also any advice on how to manage area listings.     - Moving documents between libraries I am in the process of upgrading to sps2003. I have imported my document library from 2001, but it only allows import into the top level doc lib. I want to split the doc lib into several sub areas. When i do this some or all of the meta data is lost. Can anyone advice on a way to do this? I have tried saving as a template, using the browser, copy and paste and several third party applications. For our company it is important that the version and user history is not lost.     - SessionID Changes in Sharepoint Page to Page Does SharePoint do anything odd with Sessions? I was doing some testing to make sure someone goes through the right route to get to my Sharepoint application (in development). I have a web part on the Portal Home Page (http://myportal/default.aspx) that displays the SessionID (this.Page.Session.SessionID) and then I redirect via relative URL to an Area Page (/myArea/default.aspx) and display the Session ID again.     - DocLib Event Handler: "Access is denied" I am attempting to write a document library event handler so that every time a document in SourceDocLib changes, a copy of the file is written to DestDocLib. As long as SourceDocLib and DestDocLib are in the same WSS site, everything works as it should. When I change the event handler to copy the file to a DestDocLib in an Area, I get an "Access is denied" exception. I am running IE under the SharePoint Administrator account, which created the Area to begin with. I can navigate to the Area and create a doc manually.     - Help with SharePoint Site I would like to make a personnel page where on left side of the page I would have 3 colums of personnel name listings and on the right side a picture of a specific person. The way it needs to work is when I click on any particular name (listing on the left side of the page) I would have their image come up on the right side of the page.     - Lookup of user information Hi. I have a document library of Infopath forms. One of the fields exposed to SPS from the form is "Office", which is populated automatically from Active Directory when the form is filled out. I want to filter a view of the library so that the user only sees forms that have the same value for Office as the Office property in their SPS user profile. I tried to add a lookup column to the library, but under "user information", it only allows the selection of display name, ID, email, and user name.     - Restoring SharePoint Server 2003 Shared Services I have restored our Shared services server and everything looks good but when I click on files or images or anything within a Webpart I get the following error: "Could not open 'http://URL/Document Library/document name.xls.'' Then when I click ok on this error I get the folowing: Microsoft Office Excel cannot access the file'http://URL/Document Library/document name.xls' There are several possible reasons: TheFile name or path does not exist. The file is being used by another program. The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook." Does anyone know why all the files in Document libraries or image libraries are doing this? Everything else from the restore seems to working ok now just not the important stuff. Thanks for any help.     - Problems with Configuration - can't find any solutions :( We are running SharePoint Portal Server 2003 on Windows 2003 box in an Active Directory Domain. I originally set it up using WMSDE and all was fine. As time passed, we decided to migrate it to an SQL Server (SQL2005 box also in the same AD domain). I followed the instruction on the microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/wss/2/all/adminguide/en-us/stsf17.mspx?mfr=true. However, since I've migrated, I have a couple of issues. The first issue is that in the SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration section, under the Configure Server Topology page, I have the following error. Critical Issues: The current topology is not supported. It also states "View current configuration issues with this deployment", however there is no additional information. My Configuration database server is the SQL server, the Content database server and the Component settings database server are showing the original WMSDE location and the SQL server. That's probably the problem. However, enough time has passed while I've been trying to figure this out that if I remove either of them, I'm afraid I'm going to lose portals/pages, etc. The problems it's causing are #1 - Search from the Top Portal Site returns "Your search encountered an error. If the problem persists, contact the portal site administrator." #2 - The profile database returns an error of "Fail to retrieve locale from site database - Error (î?¸Ê²ì??ç?§ì?¤ç?§ä±ªç¤?ä±ªç¤?ì?´Ë¾î??Ê²Ë¨". The server is able to talk to Active Directory and and find new users, etc. I've looked through this Discussion Group and on the Internet exhaustively. I've found a couple of things to try, but nothing is working. One more important item, it appears that Sharepoint is actually using information from both places (local and SQL).     - How to completely remove Portal Sites I've been so "smart" that I once deleted a couple of test portal sites by first deleting them in IIS, and then deleting the databases - subsequent I found out that this is NOT the way to delete portal sites.... *sigh* Now there are tons of bits and pieces lying around on the server - I can find them under Portal Listings, and the SP backup utility wants me to backup the Site db and the indexes from these two no-longer-existing-portals.. Plus the SharePointPS Search Service produces a huge amount of error messages in the event viewer regarding these two portal sites... Any ideas on how to COMPLETELY remove the Portal Sites, when the databases nor the IIS listings no longer exists? When I try to delete them from "SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration > Manage Portal Sites" I get the following error: "Cannot open database requested in login 'TestRest1_SITE'.     - Alerts "hangs" in the queue Recently we've received comments from our users that they do not receive alerts any longer. So I checked "Manage Alerts Settings" under Site Settings, and found that 184 alerts were queued up ! Tried a reboot of both the backend & the frontend servers this weekend, to see if that would solve any hanging services - but without any luck. In the Event Viewer on the frontend server I found a couple of error messages related to the SP Alert service: Event Type: Error Event Source: SharePoint Portal Alert Service Event Category: None Event ID: 3524 Description: SharePoint Portal Alerts Notification Service Failure <More information is available in the diagnostic logs on the Configure Diagnostic Settings page in SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration.> For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. and: Event Type: Error Event Source: SharePoint Portal Alert Service Event Category: None Event ID: 161 Description: The XSL file 'C:\Program Files\SharePoint Portal Server\DATA\Alerts\1033\AlertNewsLetterNotification.xsl' cannot be loaded. Verify that the file exists, and check the file for potential problems. <More information is available in the diagnostic logs on the Configure Diagnostic Settings page in SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration.> There are also error messages identical to the one above but with these xsl files mentioned: AlertCreationConfirmation.xsl AlertResultNotification.xsl AlertAutoDeactivationNotification.xsl There's nothing on it at the Help and Support Center, and the Diagnostic logs are pretty cryptic to me. I do, somehow, believe that this might be related to the two test Portal Sites that we once had - that I deleted - first from the IIS, and then just deleted the databases. When I tried to delete them from SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration > Manage Portal Sites, I get this message: "Cannot open database requested in login 'TestRest1_SITE'. Login fails. Login failed for user 'Domain\Useraccount'." which is kind of logical, as the database don't exist any longer.. But if it has any relations to the failing Alert services - I don't know.     - Migrate specific sites/subsites between SPS 2003 servers Hello, I want to migrate some (not all) of the sites (sub-sites?) within an SPS 2003 server to a different SPS 2003 server which already contains content (i.e. is not just a new blank server). Which tool(s) do I need to do this? I am not clear on the following exe's: stsadm.exe smigrate It seems that both of these apply to either STS-to-WSS or WSS-to-SPS but not specifically for SPS-to-SPS. I realise that SPS is reasonably dependant on WSS, but will either of these work, or is there something else? Also, will my service pack levels need to be identical wwhen migrating only the sub-sites and not the entire server If you need more details (I am not sure what I need to include here to make it obvious) then let me know and I will see what I can provide.     - Sizing of SPS 2001 and SQL serevr 2000 We have a Sharepoint Portal Server 2001 server which is used as a pseudo-CMS come document management system for storage of documents and rich media content. The size of the WSS.mdb file is aroung 50GB and WSS.stm is 115 GB. Sharepoint is running on an HP Proliant ML370 with 2GB RAM, 1 x 2800 Xeon CPU and 20% free disk space on drive with WSS store however performance is slow.     - Missing 'Site administration button' - lost perms to manage content indexes Hello, I used to see a 'site administration' link on the portal site but now its gone. I can get to site administration via the program files shortcut and all seems OK - apart from when i try to manage the search service and content indexes (I now get an authentication prompt) I've tried specifying the local admin, domain sharepoint service account and the domain SQLadmin account but i get 'access denied' with all. I am now effectively locked out of managing search service and content indexes! I'm not sure how long this has been broken, but the only change to the server has been application of SP2 several weeks ago. Has anybody else had this problem or know why these problems could occur?     - SPP Server 2003 at my Uni does not allow use of Outlook Address Bo Hi At my University they run SPP Server 2003. They also use Outlook OWA to Exchange. The entire environment starngely appear sto be controlled using a Novell Management System. I use the University Pc environments and it can be any random PC in several campuses. Although I follow the FAQ material as supplied by the IT Department I cannot use Outlook Global Address Book to add users to a workgroup to share a document workspace. I get the following error message - "No profiles have been created. To create a profile use the mail icon in the Control Panel" When I look in the Control panel there is no Mail Icon. Plan is : 1.Create a virtual machine from the Physical server on which SPS 2K3 is installed. 2.Create all the databases with different names suffixed with TEST on the same server. 3.Change the name of the portal to a different name. 4.Point my test portal to the TEST databases from Central Administration.     - User cannot access new Area in SPS 2003 I have SPS 2003 running on the an AD Domain Controller (may be part of the problem). I have a domain user called "testuser" with no special rites. I added him to SPS with "Reader" access rites. He can access the portal Home, Topics, Sites, and News (default) Areas. When I added a new Area, he sees it in his menu bar (it's right below Home in the heirarchy) but when he clicks on it, he is prompted to login and after getting that rejected a few times, he gets the message: Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource. Access requests are not enabled. If I go into AD and add him to the Administrators group, he can access it with no problem. As soon as I take him out of the group, its the same problem. Any ideas or is it the fact its on a Domain Controller?     - Linking Changes to AD users accts to SPPS accts Is there a way to link a change to a user's acct in AD to their corresponding acct in SPPS? What I mean is, say that the user's department changed from Helpdesk to IT Admins. I have published my Public web site to my server which is running SharePoint
Portal Server 2003. In IIS I have enabled anonymous access but when you go
to the URL for the web site it continues to ask for a user name and password.
Since this is a Public Web Site on the Internet, logging in is not an option.

How do I get SharePoint to stop asking for login?

try to enable anony access in Sharepoint too:

Site Settings
Under General Settings click "Manage security and additional settings"
Under Users and Permissions click "Change anonymous access settings"
Select what you want them to be able to do and then click OK

See if that works, let me know.
