    - Sites on SPS server do not have a search bar, WSS full text search cannot enable Set up an SPS 2003 server connected to a SQL 2000 DB. Created portal and then sites under it. Tryed to enable Full Text search on WSS admin page, and get a message that the DB being used does not support it. There is also no search bar on any of the site pages. Any ideas???     - News Subarea won't display in SubArea Hi all, I'm an experienced .NET programmer, but I am a novice SharePoint user (SharePoint Portal 2003). I created a Portal a while ago and I wanted to put the News Web Part in a Subarea - let's call this Subarea "TestArea". So I went to the Subarea, added the "News" Web Part and it said There are no listings to display However, in the "Home" area I still have the "News" Web Part and it still correctly displays the News items in the News Subarea So my first attempt to resolve the problem was to move the News Subarea which is by default is a top level Subarea under the TestArea Subarea (using "Manage Portal Site"). This did not fix the problem So then I created a new "News" Subarea at the top level under Home and added a couple of news items - this neither affected the News displayed in the News Web Part in the Home area or the TestArea Subarea. Thus, this did not fix the problem Then I tried changing EVERY option in the "modify shared Web Part" panel (for the News Web Part in the TestArea Subarea) to be the same as the News Web Part in the Home area. This did not fix the problem. However, now when you click on the "News" title for the "News" Web Part on the TestArea Subarea - it does link correctly to the original News Subarea (thanks to changing the "Detail Link" under Advanced) I don't really know what else to try to get the News in the TestArea to display the News items in the original News Subarea - or any News Subarea for that matter Any suggestions are welcome Novice Tag: Search settings times out Tag: 39527

    - Simple question about Links webpart Hi, I am using SharePoint Portal Server 2003. I have included a web park Links that comes with SharePoint on the page and then I added the links to it. I named this linked web part as "Product Links". Now I wanted to create smiliar link web part named "General". But every time I drag the Links component on the web page, I get an exact copy of "Product Links" web part which I already have on the page. Any link webpart I try to create seems to be linked to "Product Links". If I delete a link from General then it also disappears from Product Links.     - Move imported document libraries I've imported all of my documents from SPSv1 into SPSv2 and they are all at the root of the site content. I've used the "Select a portal are for this document library" and selected a Topic and Area area for it but it doesn't show up when I try to save a document from Word 2003 and open up these areas. These areas only have the default doc library that's created when I created the topic and area. How do I move these document library? Should I place them in both an Area (uising the areas template) and a Topic (using the topic template)? Thanks for any help and/or input.     - Is there a way to turn off URL validaty checking? I have a need to use the link web parts and add notes://server/database type url's. These work fine on other web pages we have. However, sharepoint will not even let me enter them. I get Invalid URL value ; A URL field contains invalid data. Please check the value and try again. I know it's probably unstandard but I would like to either allow notes:// type URLS in the links web part or disable the code that checks to make sure it's a valid URL. Any ideas? Thanks!     - Bug enabling anonymous access!!!! I've been using SPS v2 since beta and I've never been able to get anonymous access to work consistently in a medium sized farm setup with front end web servers and the index and job server connected via VPN. I have three portals, the accounts used for everything are the domain\admin account. One of the portals works with anonymous turned on but the other 2 main portals, on matter what I try, and all the feedback I've recieved will allow browsing of the home page when anonymous is turned on. Has anyone run into this? Microsoft want's 100's of dollars an hour to fix the problem that seems to be a bug. The error I get: "You are not authorized to access this page.     - Single Sign On and Exchange Hi, We have just installed MS Office Sharepoint Portal 2003 on a Win 2003 server. I would like to know, how do you get it to use Single Sign on? I've tried looking everywhere on the help and printed documents out to try to decipher where the active directory gets the information for the SSO. No luck. When I log on the the portal, I get prompted for the userid and password. When I go to my site, I also get prompted for my userid and password.     - Content Source Exclusions SPS2001 Is there a way to exclude all folders with a particular name, without having to exlude them individually? We "publish" external docs in PDF format, but they may originate as mutliple word docs etc. so I want to hide any source files, while still publishing them for version control. i.e. http:\server\...\user manual\_source i.e. http:\server\...\white papers\_source I've tried creating a exclusion rule "http:\server\*\_source" but it still indexes them.     - style sheets Hello everyone, I have been working with WSS and Portal style sheets mainly: ows.css, sps.css, and MENU.css and have successfully changed the look and theme of both the Portal and WSS sites. Although I am missing one change. If you click Modify Shared Page Ican change the background color and the text color but the blue vertical bar area on the left side of the drop down menu is what I can't find. I know it can be changed because if I apply a predefined theme it changes to a gray color. Whether this is an image or not, I still want to change the color of it. Any ideas?     - Audience Problem How do I fix this? I tried changing the Default Content Access Content but I still get the same error. It's critical that I fix this as audiences are a key role in Portal Server. Any body have any ideas? The audience cannot be compiled, because the account used to compile audiences does not have the proper rights.     - Attaching & Detaching from Lotus Email to Sharepoint We use Notes (R5) as our mail client and Sharepoint 2001 as our fileshare. We are unable to attach from, or detach to, Sharepoint from Notes client or Inotes over the web. Are we missing something?     - Portal change management We currently use Sun Portal Server 6.0 as our primary portal and needed to write custom plugins for the Apache Maven tool in order to minimize the number of deployment steps that our change management group needed to perform. I would rather not have to go through all that pain again.     - Document Library permissions override Site group permissions Hello, I created a new Site group that's similar to the "Contributor" group, except that the members of this group don't have the "delete document" permission. I added this new Site group to the site. But when I create a new Document Library, and add this Site group (called "Editors"), I have to choose additional permissions like "view items" or "view, edit, delete items;". These permissions override the permissions I gave to the Editors group. Is there a way where I don't have to set these extra permissions that override the site group permissions?     - Problem with security Hi all, i have a problem with security on my 2003 Sharepoint portal installation. I create a lot of webPart and a lot of webPart Page on my site with Administrator access. When i'm logging to the site with this userName all works correctly. But when i try to login with an other user i cannot logon and, after three tentatives, im redirected to the "request access page". I just try to add those users to the site users list and join them to site groups. I try also join users to Administrator group but without results. I discovered that the problem occurs only on my custom webPart and if i use the standard webpart like lists or webcontent all works correctly for all users.     - WSS & SPS different search result Hi Got 2 weird problem regarding search on SPS & WSS I have this document library inside a WSS site that contains pdf files. I already installed the pdf ifilter. When I try to search on the site, it return about 50 documents from the document library. But, when I perform the search (using the same keyword) on the portal site (SPS) it only return only 13 documents from the same document library. Why is that ???     - http and https confusion I have SSL on my server. When I am on the network and accessing a page via http://xxxxxxxxxxx then evrerything is fine. When I go off site and hit https://xxxxxxxxxxx.xxx.xxx (the x's are accurate representations) the images and pages linked to in a "Web Page part" that only have http in their URLs become broken.     - Why files are read only? I have SBS2003. I created a onenote file and placed it on the sharepoint server. I keep daily notes on it. If I open the file on another computer, the purpose of sharepoint, my original computer will show the file as read only. I can close the file, restart the computer, close the file on the other computer, shut down the other computer, disconnect it from the netork, etc. The file will forever be read only on the original computer that created the file and on which all of the work was done. The new computer on which I opened the file to look at it will always open it in read/write. Noting I do other than creating a new file, copying the onenote file into it, placing it back on the sharepoint server under a different name will allow me to edit the file on the original computer.     - How to avoid multiple log in dailogs I'm hosting several WSS sites with the inbox and calendar webparts pointing to my Exchange 2003 box. After users log into the WSS site they're prompted again to log into the inbox/calendar. How can I eliminate the second login prompt?     - SPS 2001 - document profile error The following error is occurring on our SPS 2001 server. We are running with SP1 and keep getting a message that "the tahoe server has encountered the following error: create object (cdo.knowledgefolder) - error number: 800703E6" This occurs when using the Windows Explorer interface and try to check in a document. Closing the message window causes Windows Explorer to close. This error does not occur if using the web interface to upload a document and check it in. Has anyone encountered this problem? When I click "Configure search and indexing" on any SPS v2 server in the
medium farm that I have setup, it times out: Error: Request timed out.

How can I increase the time to load? What might be causing the timing out
anyway? Everything esle loads.
