    - Want to sync sharepoint document sites between production and dev I am new to sharepoint administration and would like to know how can we copy the documents in sharepoint doc site between sharepoint sites. We have Sharepoint server 2003 installed, this contains 2 document sites one of which is being used for production and the other is being used for QA testing. Now I need to keep the QA test environment in sync with the production environment. I would like to know how can we achieve this, is there any tool available or how do I go about it?     - Multiple WSS Configuration Databases Hi all Is it not be possible to have 2 different configuration databases on a separate SQL server for the same Share Point server. In other words â?? I have one webserver that I was going to use for Internet purposes and Intranet purposes. I wanted to have WSS installed in AD Account Creation mode for my outward facing WSS site. I also wanted this same web-server to host my intranet for my internal employees. However â?? this would need to be in â??Domain Account Modeâ?? â?? thus the need for 2 separate configuration databases. This would be easy if I had 2 separate web servers with 2 separate â??instancesâ?? of WSS installed. So my question boils down to whether I that it would be impossible for me to install WSS on one server that that would allow me to point my different WSS sites to 2 different configuration databases and content databases??     - IIS6 write permissions enabled - sharepoint broken Hello, We are having some serious problems with our sharepoint. We are running small business server 2003 with the built in share point. Our IIS 6 admin has inadvertently changed the permissions on the "companyweb" within IIS 6. She changed them by adding the write permission to the root and then telling it to propagate to all the child nodes. Since this I can access the site via the http://companyweb.default I can see the various document libraries, etc but when I try to open a word document via the portal it pops up a box asking which format I would like to convert the document to with options like plain text, html, etc. all other users cannot access the portal. when they try they get the option to save a document called companyweb. when I try to get to the sharepoint via the network, I.e. \\companyweb it tells me that this resource does not exist or the permissions are wrong. Greetings esteemed Sharepointers, I'm trying to understand from WHERE Sharepoint is actually getting its user-related data when a Sharepoint Portal Administrator is manually adding a user. Please follow along with this typical (and odd) scenario: 1. Sharepoint Administrator (SA) logs into The Portal 2. SA browses to Manager Users admin page => The Portal displays Users, Usernames and Site Groups columns So far so good. now watch what happens: 3. SA clicks Add Users => The Portal display Add Users page (spsaclinv.aspx); 4. SA enters the user account "company_abc\john.smith" 5. SA checks "Contributor" box 6. SA clicks "Next>" button => The Portal queries SOMETHING to get & display the following in editable text boxes: Email Address = John.Smith@companyabc.com <-- in editable text box User Name = company_abc\john.smith <-- NOT in text box; embedded in page as label? Display Name = Smith, John Q. <-- in editable text box Question 1: WHERE is Sharepoint getting this information??? Answer 1: Question 2: WHY is some of this info editable, but not the other stuff?? Answer 2: Next comes even stranger behavior... 7. SA clicks the "Finish" button, expecting to see an account called "John.Smith" created.... => The Portal displays the Manager Users page => The Portal displays the following new account: Users Column shows "Smith, John Q." User Name Column shows "COMPANY_ABC\jsmith" Site Groups Column shows "Contributor" Question 3: WHERE did the text "COMPANY_ABC\jsmith" come from? Answer 3: Question 4: WHY did Sharepoint CHANGE the User Name from "John.Smith" to "jsmith"??? Answer 4: CLUE 1: When we asked our AD gods to query their schema for information on John.Smith, the ONLY place where the value "jsmith" shows up is in the AD field "emailNickname". CLUE 2: When we deliberately modified this value in AD from "jsmith" to "jsmith1", we saw it show up in REALTIME on the Exchange Server as a change to the "Alias" field. That is, as soon as we changed the "emailNickname" field in AD to have "jsmith1", then the EXCHANGE field called "Alias" also contained precisely that value. This mix-match of account names is killing our Infopath applications, which try to instantiate and query a WSS User Object, and compare its User Name property with the current logged in user. IF John.Smith logs in, and the WSS User Object somehow has "jsmith" for an account value, then the Infopath apps thinks that jsmith is NOT John.Smith... :-( ANY help/guidance is welcome.     - Issues Annoyance I'm a newbie when it comes to Sharepoint technology, but we have an issue that is becoming annoying. Whenever we edit an Issue, the textbox for the Issue description removes what the issue was prior to edit. On saving the Issue, it appears with a history of the changes ..so it appends whatever change we made to what the previous description was.     - SPS 2003 Web Server Event Log Errors I found these errors in our web server event log. 1) "The content index server cannot update or access its database because sessions are unavailable. Increase the system resource usage setting for the search service. If the problem persists, stop and restart the search service." 2) "The content index cannot be loaded. The content index metadata cannot be read." 3) "Index propagation to search server<server name IP address> was not accepted. The content index metadata cannot be read.     - How to setup Default website and Intranet site SPS2003. Two Win2003SP1 front-end servers. Windows NLB. Default website is set to anonymous on both Front-End web servers. I assigned IP=1.1.1.1 to Default website. Then I publish the respective site in ISA 2004 to "Internet". ISA is specifically publshing the 1.1.1.1 the IP address - this is working OK. Now I have problems setting the Intranet site. The Intranet site is set to "Windows Integrated". Only people inside my organization should have access to this site. Can you shed some light on how I should setup the Intranet site in this NLB configuraiton. The problem is that I go to the FrontEndWebServer2 and I don't see the "Intranet" site listed on IIS.     - Post SP Survey restults back to SP site in table? Ideally, what I would like to do is run a SP survey from my team's site, and have the results post to the same site, automatically, refreshing when the page opens. So far, Im seeing this is not possible. What Im trying to do now is run the SP survey, manually export the results to a xls on our server, then manually import that sheet to a Custom List on the team site. Ive tried all three list options. None are great so far (mostly because the columns are so wide, they run way off the screen). Ive tried going forward and backward every which way trying to find a way to automate this process somewhat. In Inside Out (p 121) it seems to suggest I should be able to link an xls to a SP site using the 'Publish' option. Ive tried this a dozen times.     - Link with Outlook I need to figure out how Outlook pulls in recurrance data for an sharepoint calendar once a user creats the stssyn link between a sharepoint calendar and outlook using the "link to Outlook Calendar". I understands that the data is pulled in by Outlook, in XML format, by calling the webservices running in sharepoint, and ows_RecurrenceData field is used to send the recurrance data to outlook. And I also understand that ows_fRecurrence is set to -1 when the recurrence is part of the calendar. What else needs to happen for outlook to know that the event in the calendar has recurrance.     - Can't Unblock managed file types I am trying to upload a .Class file to Sharepoint server. I went into Security Configuration and clicked on Manage Blocked file types and deleted the listing for .class then clicked ok. Still was unable to upload .class file.     - Problem saving access files We are having trouble saving access files that have been opened from sharepoint. When we open the files, make modifications, and hit the save button it doesn't do anything. Same as if you go to file save or file save as.     - Display Excel worksheet in a web part I have an existing Excel spreadsheet. That's my data source and, as can be the case with Excel, it's not 100% structured. I want to be able to disply the contents of a worksheet from that spreadsheet in a SharePoint site (WSS or Portal server). It seems like that should be easy, but I can't find any way to do it.     - Add User in AD Creation, prompts for User, no credentials accpeted Running in AD Creation mode, all accounts set to the domain Administrtor. When I got to Site settings I get prompted to login and it accepts the Adminstrator credentials. Everything is fine up to the point of adding a new outside user. At the Finish button, I get prompted for user name and password. It does not accept the {domain}\Administrtor credentials. After three attempts you get booted to a page that says: Access denied. I have a number of sites on my.domain.org, e.g. https://my.domain.org/sites/Site1 and https://my.domain.org/sites/Site2. On Site1 I create a new alert to a document library and both the alert creation email and the alerts for change notifcation come back with the correct domain i.e. my.domain.org. However on Site2 if aI create a new alert (at say https://my.domain.org/sites/Sites2/DocLib/) the alert creation email has my.domain.org (correct) and the alert change notification has my.domain.com (INCORRECT!). The two sites are only accessible via my.domain.org and not from my.domain.com so the alerts can only have been created from my.domain.org. So can anyone offer any suggestion as to why there are differing reponses? I don't own or control the IIS or Sharepoint server but to my knowledge we have never used my.domain.com for this Sharepoint Servers Virtual Server name. What should I be getting the ISS/SPS admin to check? The SPS installation is a tack on to other managed services for a few small teams so the admins are not so familiar with SPS...     - User's cannot see or edit assigned items created by admins in a li I create a list and set the item-level permissions for read and edit to "only their own". Use Case: I have a team of 9 and want to use this list to track personal items\tasks. All 9 team members are contributors of the site and list. As the administrator and manager, I create and assign a task for each team member. For example, I created 9 overtime tasks and assigned each one to a team member. When a team member accesses this list my expectation is that they only see the overtime task assigned to them. Instead, they are not seeing any tasks that I created.     - Removing Corrupt Personal Views I have a user who has created a personal view for a project list that has become corrupt. This is purely an HTML rendering issue. This issue is particularly obnoxious in the case where I discovered it, as the table cells preceding the iframe have a cumulative effect. In my example, the misplaced autocomplete box is mis-positioned, but fairly close to the input. In the environment where I discovered the issue, the autocomplete box was completely outside of the web browser. Many users in my environment with lower-resolution screens cannot see the autocomplete box at all. Regardless of the degree of inconvenience, my management assured me that the behavior is unacceptable. Solution: Reading around on the web, I find reference to a solution, whereby the iframe is given a style attribute as follows: style='position:relative;left:0px;top:0px;' Unfortunately, the environment where I encountered the issue - Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server - does not allow me to code around the issue. This failure occurred for me using built-in SPS Web Part formatting which I am unable to avoid, short of recoding the "page viewer" and "content editor" webparts. It is not clear to me that recoding these web parts will actually resolve the issue, because of the excessive formatting used in SharePoint Portal Server. Tag: Restore Failed Tag: 74021

I want to restore spp to new server. I used a Microsoft Sharepoint Server
Backup and Restore Tool. After starting the restore operation, I get an error
message :
Error:Exception of type
Microsoft.Sharepoint.Portal.Install.DublicateDirectoryException was thrown.
How can I solve this problem.
