We are currently experiencing some strnge but very troublesome behavior with
new users MySites.

Any new MySites that are created, and we are not sure as of when, are
missing links to Documents and Lists and Site Settings on the navigation bar
across the top of the page. If you try to manully enter the URL to where
these locations would be, you are presented and error message.

Even stranger, these new sites are not being created in the back-end data
base. If we perform this query
"Select * from Sites where FullURL LIKE '%personal/username%'"
Against the Portal_Sites database nothing is returned.

Anyone have an idea of where to start on this one?

Anything in the event logs ?

Sounds very strange, my guess might be that the site collection had been set
with a limit for sites and you've now exceeded that.
