    - ascx User Control, Web Parts and SQL-Server 2000 We have an ascx User Control that makes sqlclient database connection to SQL-Server 2000. This user control is then contained on asp.net page for testing (we eventually want To use control in a web part). This control functions normally if it resides in an IIS 6.0 web site not configured for SharePoint 2003. However if this is run under an IIS 6.0 web site configured for SharePoint 2003 I get the following error when trying to connect: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. Please note that the folder with the asp.net test application is part of SharePoint's exclude path. Also this test application will run correctly if referenced thru browser on the portal server itself. I'ts only when referencing portal from another client that error occurs.     - add custom web part to web part gallery How do I add a custom web part to the [sitename] Gallery? I am trying to create several pages from one area template that contains this web part but am getting an error. I suspect it is because the web part is not part of a gallery and therefor not available throughout the current site.     - Unable to edit home page with FP2k3 Hello, I can no longer edit my portal's home (default.aspx) page with FrontPage 2003.     - SharePoint Migration / Upgrade We have SPS running on a server that we don't own (ISP hosted). It is version 2000 I believe. We are standing up a server in our own environment now that will have SPS 2003 on it. What would be the best way to migrate the users and data to the new system, given the fact that we will not be able to touch the old system. (they will provide us with archives and just about any kind of data dump we ask for though - i'm just not sure we know what to ask for) Are there migration tools available for this sort of thing?     - Can you have multiple and separate document libraries in an area? I would like to have multiple document libraries in the same area--i.e. I have some documents that are templates, some that are examples of the templates filled in and some are just explanatory documents. I'd like them all read-only for some users, but segrated into 3 different areas so that it's more obvious what the documents are. If I create another "part" that is a document library, even if I change the name of it, it "comes along with" the documents from the first document library I have in the area.     - Alerts not working The alerts in my portal area are not working correctly. I can see the alerts I create in the My Alerts section, however it never gets updated if something is added or changed. Also, I don't get the initial email sent that I created the alert, nor do I get emails for adds or changes. The alerts from my sites (wss) are working fine. Any information would be appreciated.     - identification line within documents In work place and in college I have been typing the source of where the document is saved and have been wondering and looking for either a short cut or some sort of place to make my life easie. I remeber at one point being able to insert the source of the document. It enables you to know where the document is when it is needed instead of having to remember where you saved it. Thanks!!     - Public Folders moving in to Sharepoint 2001 Hi, We are just looking into a complete replacement for our Public folder structure in Exchange. We are migrating from Exchange 5.5 to 2000 around Xmas time, and then once we have migrated we will no longer be using Public Folders within Exchange.     - Make all documents and lists order by time? Hi: How do I make all documents and lists in SPS order by the time they are created (or modified)? There is a default view for every doc lib and list. This view orders items by name. But my users want every document and list item ordered by the time they are created. I ask them to create a new view or a template, which I think may cost no time. Buy they don't accept. They just want these items listed by time by default. I tried the site definitions or AllItems.aspx, but didn't find a clue. Is there any way to do this? Or I just tell my users that, "it is not possible" ?? Thanks for your response.     - Configuration Problem Greetings- SPS2003; installing over Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 using the Installing SharePoint Portal Server 2003 on a Server with Windows SharePoint Services document. I've installed the software and am now configuring it. I'm at the Specify Configuration Database Settings screen. I have the option to create a new database or connect to an existing one. As I have been using Windows SharePoint Services, I chose to use an existing one. At the database server name field, I input: Server/Database Server When prompted to Use Default Name or Choose Custom Name, I left Use Default Name Selected. I click on <OK>. The progress bar at the bottom of the window moves and about 15 seconds later, the page comes back with "an error occured" at the top.     - portal no longer prompting for username and password All of a sudden (seemingly) my SPPS server has quit prompting me for a password to log in with. I believe at one point I selected remember password when prompted after accessing a word doc, but I can't be sure of that. I'm not logging in to AD so its not using SSO. I've reset every Internet Options setting I can think of and nothing makes it prompt. This is a problem since I need to test other users' logins from my machine. I know this is a client setting, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Also, on a related note, in IIS, after right clicking on Web Sites should Anonymous Access be granted at this level?     - SPS 2003 SP1 problem with backup and restore Hey guys, Well recently my company has given me the go ahead on updating SPS2003 with the new SP1 that Microsoft has released. I did some research involving the service pack and it was advised that I perform a full backup before I update. So I went along with the admin guide and performed a full backup of SPS2003. It said that the backup was successful without any problems. So then I proceeded to install the update and it prompted me to install the WSS SP1 first and then the SPS SP1 update. Both of the SP1's were installed successfully and the update installed fine. To make a long story short...or (shorter) I came in this morning to find that the update has changed some of the customizations that I have done to the style sheets. Firstly... I don't understand why just an udpate would change the style sheets...but it did..Anyways now when i try to restore the backup that I made yesterday it says that the Manifest file is a different version of SPS2003???? Now it won't restore back to what I had backed it up to??? Oh man all the hard work doing those customizations.... Can anyone help me or give me some insight on what I can do to resolve this problem?? Please I need some help because if not I have wasted a lot of precious time....     - Slow opening SQL Server when Portal loaded? I have a low volume SQL Server 2K db on one of our servers, and associated .asp pages on our external webserver where I update it. Everything had been fine until earlier this summer when SharepointPortalServer 2003 was loaded on the server with SQL Server on it. My db andn programs are unrelated to SPS. My users have started complaining that they create/update a record on my db, and it doesn't "take". Investigation and testing have shown that the .asp where the record is inserted/updated is now timing out before the record is created/updated. The way it appears to be working now is that the first time in the day an update type query goes against the db, it has to actually OPEN it now, which I didn't think was the way it works, but it sure acts like it. A simple select query works fine, btw. I tried running the exact same update query in the SQL Query Analyzer, and noted that it took nearly an entire minute to update a single field on a single record, but it did work. However, if I IMMEDATELY ran the exact same query again it worked fine from that point on, in milliseconds, as it should have, until the next day. The .asp pages started working again, too. The next day, tho, it started all over again. If I go into SQA the next day and update a record again, it takes a long time again, but again, that seems to "open" the files for the day. This is NEW behavior, it never happened before. I have tried putting the query into a stored procedure, but that did not help, and verified that the db has autoclose=0, and query time-out is 0 as well (which I understand means unlimited). The only NEW thing is that SPS was installed on the server, and of course it is SQL based, so it shows up in the Enterprise Manager for that server. My question to the group is whether anyone else has noticed something like this happening, or can suggest a solution.     - Modifying HTML I'd like to cosmetically change the look and feel of SPS/WSS using my own HTML editor (not FrontPage).     - Sharepoint document upload hanging Hi, I've given the newgroups a good read-through to see if my problem has been encountered before, but unfortunately I've come up with nothing so figured it was time to post! One of my colleagues is having problems uploading a document to the portal via the Sharepoint client. When she drags a document to the portal document folder, it'll start the copy process, but then just sit there showing the progress bar - which is filled up immediately. The weird part of it all though is if it's done through the front-end (IE) it seems to work fine.     - SPSBackup failing when run as a scheduled batch job. Hi all I am trying to get spsbackup to run as a scheduled task via a batch file. The batch file works fine if I am logged onto the server and run it from the command prompt. However, it keeps failing as a scheduled task with the following error message in the event log: 'The configuration database could not be found from this server. In order to backup any components, you must first join this server to a farm.' The SQL databases are on a seperate server than our SharePoint installation. I thought that this may be due to the fact that the scheduled task did not have security access to the databases. I therefore added a service account specifically created for SharePoint to the security tab of the scheduled task. However, the same error message appeared. SERVERINSTALL=1

I have seen many posts on this, but no resolution. This happens after I
upgres to windows 2003 and try to install the backward compatable doc lib
server components. I am following the whitepaper from Microsoft on the
Migration from sharpoint 2001 to 2003. I have been able to reproduce this
error twice on 2 differant test boxes. Any help would be great.
