    - SPS service pack install order Hi All After installing SPS sp1 is it then necessary to install WSS sp2 and then SPS sp2. Are WSS sp's required when SPS is installed.     - My "Sites" link has been deleted, need it back! Hello, On the portal home page there used to be a "Sites" link (ran horizontally across the top) which has now disappeared.     - How are documents stored in SharePoint My question is How are documents stored in SharePoint? If I have a document "business.doc" located on a network share, and I add it to a document work space on my SharePoint server, then is the whole document and any an future versions of it stored on the SharePoint server within the SQL database. So that the doucment is now stored in two locations, using even more disk space on my network than if I hadn't loaded it into SharePoint? I could use some clarification here.     - Connecting two DVWPs of the same list Hi, I'm working with FP DataView. I have two DVWP of the same list in a page, and are connected using the Id. field. The first view has a couple of fields and is filtered using some criteria, and the second view shows al fields based on the selection made in the first one. It works fine, however, when there is no matching criteria to show any elements, the first view gets properly filtered (showing "No elements" message), but the second view shows all records !     - Webpart HttpContext error. Hello All, I am creating a webpart that displays the sharepoint user properties, i have a class that recieves the user context, fills the properties and then returns the properties back as a dictionary to the webpart. At first i passed the username from the context and this works fine but now i want to change that and pass the context itself to the class from the webpart but when i do this i get a stack overflow exception.     - Need to Alter Template Tag Content Previous question of configuring Alert e-mail answered by Shane was helpful in helping me understand the Templating and Tag references made by Sharepoint. Our 'Client Server' group, responsible for environmental and hardware administration saw fit to encapsulate our externally facing Sharepoint site within Citrix. This disables our external user base to use the embedded links within the Alert e-mails as the links are set for a site (http://Sharepoint.our.site/) not accessible without logging in through the externally facing Citrix client (http://our.citrix.site/). Ultimately, it would be nice to be able to alter the embedded links to point to our Citrix login page (which all must login to prior to logging into the Sharepoint site) however I have not been able to figure out how to alter the data utilized by the Template Tag <SiteUrl/>.* In light of this dilema "Marketing" has made the request to insert text not found in any of the Template Tag data.** Thus I'm forced to ask of you a few major questions: *Q1: Can/How-do I alter the <SiteUrl/> data that gets embedded into the Alert e-mails to point to the external facing Citrix login URL? **Q2: Can I add Marketing text not found in any of the Template Tag Data? Additionally: How/where is the Template Tag Data is stored and can I access/alter it without killing other SharePoint site functionality? Any help would be extremely appreciated!!!     - User names not updated after change and active directory import I have seen a couple threads around the web about this problem but haven't found any solution... When user names are changed in AD (because of marriage, divorce, whatever), the sharepoint import updates the displayed name in their profile, however the name is never updated when displayed on a team site.     - Does it make sense setup another farm for 'corporate' users only ? Following DepSPSXnet.doc, I deployed a Perimeter Active Directory Forest and placed all related Sharepoint Servers there in a large farm configuration, including a clustered SQL server. That solution should be used by 16,000+ users, visitors to our site who should be able to get Active Directory accounts in that "Perimeter Domain" and from they could logon and access the Sharepoint content - OK. There are contents in the Sharepoint site that should be allowed to my internal employees only. What's the best way to handle this ? I mean, if I put the "internal employee" in information in the SQL servers housed in the "Perimeter" network, that seems to be too exposed ?     - Restoring deleted content Hi all I find myself lacking in developers today due to holidays so have a simple question that I think I know the answer too! My client has deleted a section of their sharepoint intranet accidentally. It was a top level area or doc lib. I have dug around a lot and it looks like the only way to get it back is the whole restore back-ups procedure.     - Do you think this is a good way to publish Anonymous and Basic sites to Extranet ? Again, following the DepSPSXnet.doc I don't see instructions on how to deploy both Anonymous and Basic site to the Extranet. This is what I have in mind, please advise if you think this doesn't make sense: Currently I have http://mysharepoint.mycompany.com accessible from ther Internet with anonymous access. That's coming from the Default Website, Port 80. I am running SPS2003 and therefore it is assigned to a discrete IP address:10.1.1.1 Now I've created "Extranet Site", Port 80, assigned to IP address 10.1.1.2. Users should type https://mysharepointexternal.mycompany.com in order to get to such site which requires basic authentication. If I follow that logic, I'd need to create another rule on ISA 2004 to publish this new mysharepointexternal.mycompany.com now using a listener with basic authentication. That also require additional entry in my external DNS servers and a permit for that specific IP address in our border router.     - HTTP status 401: Unauthorized with Web App and SWS I am able to connect to the Sharepoint Web Service from a WinForms application using the "DefaultCredentials". But I am having trouble doing this from a WebForm. I have tried using the default IIS setting of "allow anonymous" and changing the identity used there to my own. I believe I running IIS 5.0 on Windows XP becuase I do not see an APP POOL folder in the snap-in. Any guidelines for security when talking to SP Web Services from other Web Applications?     - Can't add new users! I am currently in day two of my 30-day free trial of SharePoint. I initially added the wrong people as users, so I deleted them. The problem occured when I went back to add the correct people as users - I get an error message that says, "This Web site has reached the maximum number of users quota limit. No additional users may be added. You must either delete users, or contact your administrator to change the quota limits for the Web site." There are no users listed except myself.     - Cannot Change "My Site" Title Hi all I've successfully created "My Site" but cannot change the site title. I click on the usual Site Settings, Change site title and description and enter a new title then click OK. It then goes back to Site Settings page and actually shows the new title above "Site Settings". When I go back to "My Site" home page it still says the old name.     - Problem with Alerts after Data Restore Hi I recently migrated a SharePoint Portal Site from a test server running an evaluation copy of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 using MSDE onto a full server running SQL Server 2000 SP3. I used the SharePoint Data Backup and Restore utility and all the data seemed to transfer correctly. All of the parts of the site are working perfectly with the exception of alerts. No user's alerts seem to be working correctly. Even when a user is signed-up to an alert it doesn't flag the alert. There appears to be no issues with the system apart from when I try to clear all users alets i receive the following error. "Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates that a COMMIT or ROLLBACK TRANSACTION statement is missing. Previous count = 0, current count = 1." I'm not certain what the issue is, has anyone else encountered this?     - newbie: miserable experience so far I recently had a very pleasant experience with Dot Net Nuke and decided to look into SPS. I don't even know if they are the same thing, but I have been told they were. Note to marketting: after reading everything I could find on the Microsoft web site about SPS the only thing I know about it is that it is the greatest product ever concieved - no idea what business problem it solves or how it does it. So I decided to install my MSDN copy and see if it was like duke. I am installing on an up to date (windows update wise) Windows 2003 server domain controler, with SQL server 2000 running on it. I looked at the readme and made sure front page extensions was not installed. I then proceeded to install. CLR error during the install, but instalation continued. After instalation completed I was redirected to a web page that was not found. On investigation I discovered the portal web site was not started. It turned to be because an invalid application pool was specified. Changed to 'default' and started the web site, but all I get is 'access denied' errors on any pages and I am using the domain admin account. Now the fun begins, I've tried uninstalling it - error can't uninstall. Repair - error can't repair (same CLR error as during instalation) and so I have a hosed up production domain controler server. Is my only choice now to reformat my production server to get it back to normal? Is there something in a readme that I missed that would cause the instlation of SPS to put my server in this condition? Now I know why others pay for SPS hosting rather than deal with it themselves.     - Importing user profiles hangs I just took over SPS installation at a company and found that the importing of the user profiles does not work correctly. For some of the experts here (which I hope can help me), I will explain the situation: The SPS/WSS installation are on the same server as the IIS and SQL-server. The Portal is running fine and all users are authenticated correctly. Since a couple of days the documents don't seem to be indexed correctly anymore, but this might be a bad interpretation by me. The real problem is: at the 6th of October a forced update of the 2003 server has been done, after which the SPS environment failed. While the previous admin had moved to another department, some people have tried very hard to get the Portal running again. What did they do? They created a new Service Account for it. This Serviceaccount has been connected to the 'dbo' named-user with loginname (ex.) 'SharepointSA' in the SQL-server on the config_db, SITE, SERV and PROF db's. Also this account has been entered in the IIS, Central Administration for all servers and I even checked it in the Import schedules. The import has only ran correctly once afterwards. When I now start a full or incremental import, the status will change to Importing (0), but this will stay like this for the rest of the day (yes even with Refresh). No log-entry is done. Reference: I have a testportal which is running with the same account, but not connected to 'dbo' (in SQL-server), but instead user:DOMAINNAME\SharepointSA -> Login:DOMAINNAME\SharepointSA and this works perfect. This testportal is running on the same machine, to the same SQL-database, just different databases (except the config_db). My idea is to bring the portal down for a moment and change the dbo account to another login (different SA) and create a user in the SQL-server with the credentials like they work in the Testportal. Does anyone have a good insight if this will solve the problem, or if this will make things worse? What are the consequences and has anyone seen this symptom before? Thanks! One is a Calendar Month View and the other is a List view of the current events. Although this is working fine, members are not allowed to take a copy of the files/folders as they get an 'Access is Denied' error.     - Cannot create new form - 2 errors Hi, I have recently published a form to a SharePoint form library, but certain people are having trouble loading it. The error messages are: 1. 'Insufficient Security Privilege. This form cannot be opened because it requests domain security level and is only allowed restricted security level. Contact the form author to resolve this issue.' and 2. 'InfoPath cannot create a new, blank form. To resolve this issue, open Internet Explorer and delete your Temporary Internet files by selecting Internet Options from the Tools menu.' This form is no different to others that can be successfully opened by ALL staff. The only difference and in my opinion is that i am opening this form from a Form Content web part button in SharePoint rather than the Fill In This Form button. (The affected users only receive this error when using the button, not the form library tool bar.) The web part code is: <input type=button onclick="window.open('http://wicswhdev105/Client History/Forms/template.xsn')" value="Get Client History"> Has anyone got any ideas why this code only causes the above errors on certain peoples machines. I have tried comparing basic setting but with no joy. The standard answer seems to be to make the form fully trusted. I don't want to do this as updates are more complicated. Everything seems to work fine until I try to add a user to this site. I can browse for users and select the account I want, I then select the site groups that I want and click Next.     - Synchronizing Team Site deletions with Site Directory I have a large number of very active SPS users, and Team Sites are regularly created and deleted; however, the site listing remains in the Site Directory until I go in & manually remove it - a kludge process at best.     - Orphaned Site Group User I'm trying to remove a Site Group User (no longer with our company) from an area using the "Manage Security" action listing. I get the error "Could not find user with corresponding SID in the domain. Check the spelling of the account name and try again." This former user is not available in "Home" - "Manage Users", not a member of any audience, or in "View User Profiles". Our Company has a policy to delete disabled AD accounts after 1 year, which validates the error I'm getting.     - Sharepoint crawl error Hi, I have SPS portal with some WSS sites underneath. I am able to search for Portal content from the portal and WSS content from the WSS sites, however, I am not able to search for WSS content from the portal level. On investigation, I found out that I have an error in my Gatherer log... "The address could not be found, (0x80041221 - URL could not be resolved. The host may be unavailable, or the proxy settings are not configured correctly on the index server......." Some background: I have SPS V2 & WSS both with SP2 and SQL 2000 with SP4 installed on the same machine. There is not proxy server. I have created a new Virtual server on port 9999 where I have installed Sharepoint. All other functionality on the portal is working fine except for this search issue...wherein I cannot search for WSS sites from the Portal. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.     - Newbie question I have created a site called Michaels test. On the left hand side under documents I have created an area for marketing, engineering and finance. Within each on of those I have sub folders - for instance under Marketing I have Company Approved Images, General Marketing Documents, Marketing Plans and Vendor Agreements. Now lets say I click on the Company Approved Images and in that folder are all of the approved images. Basically the marketing department wants to be able to restrict who can get into the Company Approved Images document folder and then assuming they can get in there, they would also like to restrict who can access a specific file in there. This is VERY easy to do under NTFS, but for the life of me I cannot get permissions to be applied on a per folder or per file basis. Right now the closest I can get is to have permissions applied as a whole to the Marketing folder. I am a newbie but have read a lot and have not found the answer for applying permissions on a similar NTFS file / folder format. Can this even be done - If so how. It appears no one, including Microsoft has an easy way to force document
check out and check in. I am hoping by this time, an easy method for doing
this is now available. If anyone knows about this method, fix, patch, etc.
I would appreciate knowing about it
