Here's something which isn't explicitly covered in either the MS or
the HP Capacity Planning whitepapers, and which I can't come up with
an "intuitive" answer for.

In either the medium or large farm configs we would typically spec 25%
of the "searched content" size as filstore requirements on the Index
server and 50% (for two copies of the index) on the Search server(s).

However, in the small farm config, these are all the same physical
server. Does this mean that we need to spec 75% of the "searched
content" to allow for the initial content index plus both searchable
copies of it to all co-exist at different places within the filestore
on the single web + search + index + job server?
