Hi,
I am getting an error in the Gatherer logs that the address cannot be found
on my content sources. The address is created by the system for these
content source like People and Portals. Also, these addresses were working
fine with Beta 2 TR of SPS. What has changed? How can you change the address
of the People and Portal ccontent source and crawls? Delete the existing
content sources and create new ones?

User Profiles - "Assistant"
We're running SPS2003, and working with the user profiles. In AD, the
"manager" is stored as a DN. We tried doing the same thing with "assistant"
and then importing it into the portal user profile. The "manager" DN is
translated to a user account, but the "assistant" DN is imported with no
translation. :-(
Anyone worked with this? Is manager a special case, and any other "Person"
type of user profile properties are out of luck?

SPS 2001 Subscriptions
Hi,
how long does it take til SPS 2001 updates its metadata, when I
programmaticaly disable the subscriptions by setting the property
urn:schemas-microsoft-com:publishing:DisableSubscriptionNotifications to
True? when I start the Web store and SPS service, it takes immediately the
new values. I wrote a script that disables the subscriptions and I want to
know when does SPS take the new settings, without have to start the service.

I hope everbody is doing well.
I have a few question when it comes to SharePoint Portal Server
customisation. The first question is I understand that there's 2 different
product Windows SharePoint Services and Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal
server 2003, as Sharepoint services is the technology under Portal Server
2003. Now in the SDK I found some information on how to create a template
for Sharepoint Services and modify existing one, but how can I create a
default template (look and feel) for my Portal Server 2003 site?
How would I create a default header for all the pages in my portal site, so
when I modify it, it will take on every pages at once?
Where can I find information about customising the template, other than the
SDK?

V2 online gallery problem
I am not able to browse the online web part gallery. I am using the
released version of SPS 2003. I have tried the following 2 url's in
the web.config file:
http://rbeta2.officebeta.microsoft.com/r/hlidAwsGallery
http://r.office.microsoft.com/r/hlidAwsGallery
Both url's give me the following message:
"The gallery you are browsing does not contain any Web Parts. Select a
different gallery to browse."
The interesting thing is that I have another SPS server that is able
to browse the online gallery using the first url above.
I have enabled the setting in the admin tool which allows online web
part browsing.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Which is the correct url?

Can't login to Sharepoint Central Admin?
Hi,
I installed Sharepoint 2003 onto a stand-alone Windows
2003 Enterprise Server machine for evaluation purposes.
However, when I try to open Sharepoint Central
Administration or click "Sharepoint Portal Server" in the
Single-sign on page, I get prompted with a basic dialog
box. When I try to login using my Windows "Administrator"
credentials it prompts me again but
with "Localhost\Administrator". What does it want me
enter?
When I turn off integrated security in IIS and just use
Anonymous I get 401 errors - not authorized.

Does anyone have any insight into this?
I can send email invitations fine, so I know the email
functionality is working. However, when I subscribe to
something, the email is never sent.

moving to another server
Hi,
I have a server in bad condition with SPS (v2 Beta) and
seperate SQL server.
I want to create new server and make it the same as the
first one (with all portals, sites, directories, data).
Can I do it easily by adding the second server to the
same DB and then removing the first one (like shadow set
in VMS) ?

CreateObject("NameTranslate") in a webpart
Hi all,
i'm trying to make a webpart that checks if the logged
user is in an AD group
I get all group member
(like "CN=jeffsmith,CN=Users,DC=Fabrikam,DC=COM") but to
check if my user is in the group i have to translate
DistinguishedName to NT4 User name format (DOMAIN\user)
When I try to make this
Set nto = Server.CreateObject("NameTranslate")
I get an error and i don't know why.
Making it in a .vbs file all runs ok.

We recently upgraded from version 2 (Beta Refresh) to the release version of
Sharepoint. When we create a event and select the (Use a Meeting workspace
to organize attendees ...etc.) option, it comes back with the following

another search question in V2
Hello, I think this question has already been answered
once but I don't remember the solution. I have installed
RTM of SPS 2003 and the database is residing on a SQL
server with full text searching enabled.
I have created a main portal site and sub sites within
that main portal site. I have enabled searching and
created content sources of the subsites as well as the
main portal space. Ran full crawls of the portal site
and sub sites.
When I do a search on the main portal site for a document
that is in the sub site I get no results. However, if I
do a search from the sub site for the same document I get
results. I am searching on the main portal and sub sites
form my pc which I am admin on the entire server itself
as well as both main portal and sub sites.
Any ideas?

Installing Sharepoint on VMWare - 500 error
I am having problems getting the RTM version of VMWare installed.
I am using VMWare Workstation 4.
I am attempting to install it without using MSDE. I have SQL Server
(SP3) already installed on the VM. The VM is also a member of the
company domain.
My problem arises during the final stages of the install, where you
specify the SQL Server. The Central Admin Application Pool is not
created. When I create this myself, and assign the appropriate
permissions, I receive a 500 error when trying to access the Central
Admin site. There is nothing in the event logs to identify what is not
working.

SQL and SPS 2003 Problems
Hi
We are encountering problems Creating a Portal with SPS
2003. The task bar advances until 15% and then throws an
error. This is the environment we are running the
application:
1 Win 2003 Web Edition Cluster (2 servers) in mirror
administrated by Application Center 2000
1 separate Win2003 Enterprise Server with SQL 2000 SP3
Installation and configuration was completed succesfully
without error messages. DB server points to SQL01. First
machine installed is named WEB01. Both computers are
members of the domain TRALCOM.PROD. The user, owner of the
application pool has been authenticated with success and I
have given her the roles Database Creator and Security
Administrator in SQL. Nevertheless I still get this error.
What could it be?

It appears the upload size is limited to 75MB in SPS 2003. Is there a way

We're looking for a web-based reporting tool. The reports are to be
integrated into Sharepoint. It is unclear yet whether we want to use a UI

I figured that there's 3 linked css files (ows.css, menu.css, sps.css)
when
I comment out the sps.css link my backgroup will stay Teal, everything
else
on the page is fucked up but my background is there so I started to
look in
the sps.css for the .ms-searchform tag but I can't find it, so how can
it
overwrite the other tag if it's not there? I understand precedence
the last
css file loaded will overwrite existing tag in the other files that's
fine
but how can it overwrite stuff that is not specified?
Does anyone have a clue?

SPS v1.0 Compatibility with .NET
Hello,
I have run into a bit of a problem and I am hoping someone can help.
I am running Sharepoint Portal Server v1.0 on Windows 2000 Server with
IIS 5.0. The .NET framework v1.1 is also installed on the box. What
I am trying to do is move some ASP.NET applications from one server
over to the Portal Server so that users can run them independently.
Here is the problem... In order to enable the ASP.NET apps and set
the appropriate .aspx IIS mappings I ran a utility called
aspnet_regiis.exe. After I ran the utility the ASP.NET pages worked
fine but Portal stopped working. So I uninstalled the utility.
Uninstalling fixed the Portal but disabled the ASP.NET pages. So to
make a long story short, I have yet to find a way to make ASP.NET and
Sharepoint v1.0 co-exist on the same server.
Does anyone have any insight or suggestions on how to do this? Is it
even possible?

We have two different Windows domains. An administration and an education
server.
If I install Sharepoint portal server on both of them what is the easiest
way for the administration to publish documents etc on the education server?

Stumped - search scope for JUST portal content?!?
Been banging my head against the wall for a while on this. We index many
content sources - both inside AND outside the portal (SPS 2003). We would
like to define a search scope for JUST our SharePoint based content but when
I go to create a search scope, there is no content source option for just
portal content (including both portal areas and WSS). Anyone else run up

If we are installing Office 2003 but not planning to upgrade our SP
Server V1, what are some of the gotchas (besides needing to update the
client components)?
Also, does this configuration add any more functionality for our users
beyond what they have with SPS V1, that is, can we make use of the

Cannot work with corrupted file in sharepoint portal server
Hi,
We have developed our own application which interacts with SharePoint
portal server V1. We have our own proprietary filetype and are
uploaded into server.
But somehow, some of files got corrupted. These files are in checked
out state and we cannot delete or move or do any other operation on
these files.
From shadow folder, I see versions for file 1.0 to 4.0 and version 4.1
which is checked out one. If i try to delete version 4.1 from shado
folder, it will not allow me because it says i do not have permission.
But, I am coordinator on folder as well as on workspace and
administrator on server machine.
These files contains important data and we do not want to loose them.
How I can recover corrupted file? Will last published version 4.0 be
good and can I work with that?

Hi all,
i want to make an "option" ( like add a doc, delete
folder, ...) in the document library toolbar only
accesible to a few users.
These users are in a group(SPSCoordinators). This group is
in the active directory.
I know that i can check if an user is in a local group or
not, but i don't know if i can check if it is in an AD
group

Pivot Table Web Part on SPSS 2003
Hi,
I am using Pivot Table and Pivot Chart Web part on SPSS 2003. I can
use these components on my Home Site without any problem, however when
I want to use these components on another site, I have a problem. I
can drag the Pivot Table component from Virtual Server gallery , but
on the web part I get a message like this:
To use either the Spreadsheet Web Part or the PivotView Web Part, you
must have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or
later and the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components installed on your
computer. See the Microsoft Office Web site for more information.
Install the Office 2003 Web Components.
Since these web parts work on Home Site, the problem can not be

Content Editor Error - "Cannot retrieve properties at this time"
I am working on a site in our test environment which I
migrated from another environment (both on RTM). When I
try to edit a CE Web Part in test, I get a JS error that
says "Cannot retrieve properties at this time" and
another that says "Cannot save your changes." I've seen

I was able to switch our site over from using IP to using
host header in IIS, but we will be doing SSL in
production, so this won't cut it for us. Has there been
any resolution found for this issue?

V2: Upgrade
I want to upgrade the SPSv2TR to SPSv2.
Scenario:
Server 1: SPSv2TR
Server 2: SQL Server 2000
How can I upgrade in this scenario? Is it enough to

Gatherer Log Errors
I am unable to search using SPS 2003. I receive the following error: "No
results are available due to a network failure. Please contact the portal's
administrator."
When I check the gatherer log under site settings, I tend to get the same
two errors repeatedly:
The address could not be found, (0x80042616 - Error in the Site Data Web
Service. ) Specified cast is not valid.
The address could not be found, (0x80041206 - A server error occurred. Check
that the server is available. )
Any ideas?
