    - I can search in attachments to a contact list We are using a contact list to store information on some users. To each item in the list, we attach a word document. The problem is, that the search engine in sps doesn´t search in these docs - is that not possible in SPS? In case it is - what can be the problem?     - Microsoft SharePointPS Search Service Issue I've got a problem with the Microsoft SharePointPS Search Service. I upgraded the Windows 2003 server to a domain controller and now the service will not start. This has the nasty side effect of stopping the SharePoint backup from working. The error I am receiving in event log is: Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Microsoft SharePointPS Search service to connect. Then followed by: The Microsoft SharePointPS Search service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.     - PDF searching (NOT an iFilter full-text searching question!) Hi, I've successfully installed iFilter etc, so my PDFs in Sharpoint 2003 Portal can be searched using the basic search. However, I cannot search using the columns in the advanced search. (e.g., the doc lib has been set up to have various fields like Order Number, or Customer Name etc) I've added these fields to the advanced search, as described by Gary Bushey (re-printed at the end of this post) They appear fine, so I CAN do a search which says "Order Number - Contains - 00001001", but it doesn't return anything. Word documents etc DO work fine. How do I get PDF files to be included? Thanks "Using advanced search you can search on the columns you want. You will first need to tell SPS to use those columns in advanced search. To do this, go to Site Settings and then Manage Properties from crawled documents. You will need to find your columns (which should be under "urn":schemas-microsoft-com:office:office) click on the item in question and on the next page under "Search Options", select "Include this property in Advanced Search options". You may also want to check "Display this property in item details in your search results"; this will allow you to see this field when you click on "Item Details" in the search results.     - Integrating SPS2003 With Oracle 10g Applications Using Single Sign-On Hi, One of my clients has a very large geographically distributed deployment of custom developed Oracle Applications on the Windows platform. The client wish to web-enable the applications using Oracle 10g and then make them accessible from a single web portal interface using single sign-on enabled between Active Directory, the Portal, and the Oracle Applications. Oracle 10g application Server Portal has all the required functionality, but the client has a hard-core commitment to SPS2003 as the Portal Solution. What are the possible routes I can take to enable single sign-on from SPS 2003 to Oracle Applications? What are the risks involved? What are some of the advantages or disadvantages in choosing SPS2003 over Oracle AS 10g Portal? I have crawled the whole of the Internet in this regard with little fruit.     - Eastiest of Questions ... At least I think I am just starting to play with sharepoint. I can access in internally by http://server/companyweb:8083 (8083 is the port we selected) However when I vpn in I cant figure out the correct syntax to get in. I tried http://x.x.x.x/companyweb:8083 and I get nowhere. Actually if I am internat and I go to http://x.x.x.x/companyweb:8083 it does not work either.     - Selecting multiple columns Hello I have experienced problem regarding selecting arbitraly chosen columns using QueryService's Query method. No matter how many columns I include in select statemnt of a query I always get the same content in resulting XML, namely display name, file size, relevance, bu no sign of chosen columns. Is there any way to recieve proper response? Second problem I have recently run into was, widely known here as I perceive, Internal Server Error. I have resolved it by replacing query type tag in XML request from "MSSQLFT" to "STRING", now it works correct. But some people believe MSSQLFT to be working as well, they even publish code samples using this phrase. Does anyone know what actually the case is ?     - Help, Please Just reinstalled SPS and the alerts are not working. The first time I installed it was a breeze.     - My Site Broken for One User I have one user who's mysite is broken. I have deleted their mysite, but when they try and recreate it the same problem occurs, but to only them. It's as if when you delete a mysite it doesn't truelly delete everything. Anyhow, when they rebuild their mysite it rebuilds it fine and then tries to load the page, but the page load bombs and it redirects them to the home page of the portal immediately. Then their IE hangs a bit and gives this error message "The exception Privileged instruction. (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x04fb02f2. This error message happens on the client. It also will happen at any machine they are logged into and doesn't happen to other people trying to get to the their mysite on the same machines.     - change style of Announcements webpart Hi, I am using the Announcements webpart and am using the newsletter style on it, so that it lists the title then under that the body of each announcement. However I would also like to have this shaded, like the shaded style (however the shaded style does not list the body under the tile but rather side by side).     - Error creating "My Site" Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. We are using SharePoint 2003. I am trying to allow users of the portal to create their "My Site". But when they try, the error "There has been an error creating the personal site. Contact your site administrator for more information". There seems to be an error on the Manage Personal Sites page. On the top of the page is the error "Could not load the current personal site settings". Also, in the field where the "Personal Site Location" should be, there is nothing listed.     - Cannot open Office documents (but can open MS Project files) Hi, We have a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 portal which we moved to a new (clean)server using SPS backup and restore. This appeared to go fine. Portal came back up on new server, navigation fine, sites and 'my sites' accessible, could add and edit SPS list items. We didn't (at this point) check that we could open Office documents from document folders. We then installed MSCRM 1.2. Everything seemed to be fine until someone noticed that it wasn't possible to open Office docs. The following error was raised: "Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server." The same error is also raised when one navigates by URL , via Word -> File -> Open, to the root of the portal, i.e. where one would normally see the areas tree. Ditto, navigating to any (sub) site by URL. By accident, I discovered that MS Project files open fine. I was wondering if anyone has seen this behaviour before and might quickly point me in the right direction? That is: is this a problem with CRM and SPS co-existence - in which case I can de-install CRM and put it on another server. (And if that doesn't fix it, but it's definitely the root cause, I can re-build the new server). Or is it something to do with MSDAIPP.DLL or WebDAV configuration or whatever, i.e. something that is fixable without blowing the whole server away. Server build is: Windows 2003 Std, all critical updates applied, SQLServer 2000, SP3a, SPS 2003, CRM 1.2. All defaults, no special fiddling done that I know of.     - File Not Found upon portal creation Hello, I have installed Sharepoint Portal Services on my server and created a site at one of my domains. I filled in the fields in the wizard, then got the Progress bar telling me the site was being created. That all went very well and finished with no errors. I have selected a template. When I clicked on the link to the site (http://ipodportal.com) I get File Not Found when looking for the default.aspx file. Have I missed something out here? There are no files that seem to have been added to virtual directory for that site. Strange thing is that I got no errors at all until I went to browse to the site.     - Key words and Topic Assistant - Help! I am trying to configure keywords and/or topic assistant on our portal server. I have read all the provided help documentation (rather unclear), searched this sharepoint public site and am still having no luck whatsoever. I have created areas, I have created keywords, I have added keyword best bets, I have added numerous documents to various sites, subsites, areas etc, I have enabled Search on all sites but whenever I attempt to train the Topic Assistant I get the following error message: "There were not enough keywords in the sample documents to train the Topic Assistant.     - News Listings in Portal Sub-areas Hi everyone, Is it possible to aggregate news listings in portal sub- areas in one news web part that would display on the Portal homepage? So far, I've been frustrated with the "News" and "News for you" web parts -- it seems any news item must be displayed in the main "News" area to display on the Portal homepage, but that means there are endless duplicates if you put the "News" and "News for you" web parts on the same page (with "news for you" just serving as a sort tool). What I ideally envision is a "News" web part on the Portal homepage where people could post major announcements and a separate web part on the same page that would take the news listings posted in sub-areas and aggregate them in a list.     - URL is invalid when uploading files to a specific folder in Document Librabry I have been uploading several file the passed 5 days and now I am running into a problem that I don't understand. I have a file structure for Sales Reports and one for Inventory Reports. I have uploaded several files to both areas but now I am geting the message: (The URL "Document Library/Physical Inventory History Posting (RPH)/2003/Period 5/Adjustment Month End Roll/01.txt" is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or referto a valid file or folder that is not on the current Web.) I have also found that I cannot add a new folder in any of the Inventory Reports Areas no matter how far down or up I drill.     - Displaying Timestamps Across Multiple Timezones in Web Part Hi, I'm working within Sharepoint 2001 Portal Server. I have a web part, saved as a dwp file, which queries a document library for events and displays the times of the files. I have people looking at the web part across multiple time zones. They want to see the time stamp in accordance with their time zone, not the server's. As far as I can tell the dwp, which the web part calls, is an xml file which is processed on the server. All of the research I've done tells me that client-side Javascript (or something similar) must somehow get the GMT offset to the server. Is there anyone out there who has encountered a similar problem? How did you go about fixing the problem? For those who haven't dealt with this problem before, do any of you have any ideas or suggestions?     - Searching Documents We recently restored a Portal Server to a new SQL and new web server and was wondering why my documents wouldn't be indexed and show up in the search results. Items do show up in the search results from the Site Directory and also from people. We have tried rebuilding the catalog in SQL and clearing the current index from Configure Searching and Indexing but still no documents are indexed. When we add new documents, then run an incremental update on the catalog we notice the documents will be recorded as added, but when we search for them nothing comes up. I want to crawl the local drive (c:\enterprise documents\*) which is accessible through a shared folder \\server\enterprise documents\*) In portal server 2001 I can do this and change c:\enterprise documents to \\server\unc path... Also, in 2001 a changes made in a document can be detected by the search engine and then the index is updated (after a few seconds only) I don't see this feature in portal 2003.     - Can't see Enhanced folders after installing SPS 2003 I heard that the enhanced folders were removed from SPS2003. Though a read a thread that says SPS 2003 has the enhanced folders from 2001. What is the story? From what I can see there are no document stores in SPS2003 and you can only point to fileshares and index documents though you don't have the file shares you did in 2001.     - Portal Area URLs - Direct Management Ok, I have read a lot of questions/answers about the URL bucket scheme (the C0/C1/etc in the path names). After experiencing this for myself, I have to agree with the general mood: good idea, bad implementation. For basic portal use, this is not a real problem. In fact, the user will probably never even need to worry about it (thanks to favorites/shortcuts/etc). However, advanced users and big organizations tend to use the directory browsing feature as it comes in very handy (adding email attachments, mass moving of files, etc). This is where the bucket webs become very annoying and a major hindrance to productivity (Seriously, ROI is almost cut in half when people start using this). If you were foresighted enough to create 'holding' areas you can create a directory tree that is very intuitive, but even if you have done this, area creation will soon render even the most farseeing plan useless & hard to navigate. After experimenting with the portal databases I have been able to remove this problem, however I have no deep understanding of the database structure, so I am wondering if someone who does can go over my explanation below and let me know if there will be any problems. I have already experienced the problem, where once I have changed an area to be a child of another, you cannot then use the 'Change Settings' form to modify an areas details as it does not like the URL used (has the '/' in it). The area still works, & uses the new URLs (even for directory browsing), but you just can't change the area's settings again. To accomplish the URL change I modified three database tables in the <portal>_SITE database. Basically I just went through all the tables & changed any URL field I came across. In detail, starting with the 'Webs' table, I located the area & changed the 'FullUrl' field to reflect the new URL. In the 'Docs' table (seems to be the 'guts' of the system) you have to look for a record that has the 'LeafName' field that matches the area you want to move. Change the 'DirName' so that 'DirName'/'LeafName' matches your new URL. Now you have to locate all the records (for all the files) where the 'DirName' is the old (or current) URL. Change the 'DirName' field for all these records to reflect the new URL. There are a lot of records in this table so it may take a while doing it by hand. The last table to change is the 'CatDef' table. In this one I think you can get away with just changing the 'WebURL' field, but I also changed the 'UrlOverride' just to be sure. Once these were all changed I then reset IIS and tested it. Perfect!! Now the web urls flow properly and are intuitive again, the directory browsing reflects this as well & all the users can find what they want without having to check over 20 Cx directories to find what they want. The only problem I've encountered so far is the fact that the 'Change Settings' page will not accept URLs that have path separators in them. My questions (finally) are: will this adversely affect the portal? (& how?), and is it possible to 'remove' (or change) the URL enforcement on the 'Change Settings' page? Now for the soapbox bit: It seems to me that Microsoft was a bit too concerned with customer needs when they designed this 'feature' (never too late I say). All the explanations from Microsoft about these 'bucket webs' seem to say that they were very concerned about organizations having large unmanageable web trees. As an administrator I say that if I want large unmanageable web trees then that's what I want. I appreciate that it is a good feature for small businesses that don't want the extra design work (to create a good plan), or don't care about the layout as long as it looks good, but I should be able to override it for when I need to. For example, the 'Change Settings' page when editing an area (or the creation page), allows me to edit the URL. However, it does not allow me to specify a full url, nor does it guaranty that the URL I type will become a child path to the parent area. (I have created areas under one department before that end up under departments they have no connection to). Seems like this 'feature' was created to make the developerâ??s job easier, or just to test new sorting code. Anyway, after having said all the above, I'll say that it is a good product with huge potential and even though it is buggy & in most cases not very 'user friendly', it was a huge effort and all the people involved deserve a pat-on-the-back.     - Account to use for administration of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 As part of the installation of SharePoint Portal Server 2003. There is a page requesting account information. The installation instructions state that the account is used for administrative operations that create, modify, or grant access to the configuration or portal site database. As one of the requirements, this account must be a member of the Power Users group on the server. I cannot find the Power Users group under the list of user groups to add the account I plan to use during the configuration phase? Do I not have something enabled to be able to see this group? The installation machine has Windows Server 2003 as the operating system; configured with roles of Application Server and Domain Controller(Active Directory). Any help would be appreciated.     - incremental profile database import from active directory During an incremental import I receive the following error: 8/11/2004 2:14:13 PM Modify spsimport://pri/spsserver? cn=username,ou=orgunit,dc=domainname,dc=com The address could not be found, (0x80072030 - There is no such object on the server. ) This server has two portals and only one generates this error. The connection to active directory is the same on both portals. Note: when I do a complete import I do not get the above error. Also, the log lists users who have deleted from active directory.     - HTML View not working I had the HTML viewer for sharepoint working... then it stopped working. I can't figure out why. I un-installed both office and the viewer then re-installed. I still get the follow message when I click the View in HTML button: Unknown error occured wonderfull... very descriptive, and no messages in the sharepoint logs ore event viewer.     - How to hide Site Settings I create a site under a portal site in SPS 2003 and add a user with Reader right. When she goes to the site home page, she sees the Site Settings link and clicks on it to bring up the Site Settings menu. She then clicks on Manage Users link and gets prompt for user name and password since she does not have permissions. Is there a way to remove "Site Settings" on the default page for a site so a user who does not have the right permission can't click on it? By the way, the "Site Settings" link does not show up on the default page for the top level portal site. I can see it since I am the portal site administrator. I have mapped to a document library of a site. I can
successfully upload most of the documents. However,
suddenly an error message occurs:
"Cannot copy FolderA: Insufficient system resources exist
to complete the requested service."
Any ideas?
