Hello,

Up until now I have been able to Edit Documents in the Sharepoint
Portal Server 2003. I have Office 2002 and Office 2003 loaded on my
client and I.E. 6.0. By default when I Edit Documents in Word it opens
Word 2003.

For some strange reason this stopped working today. Now I get the
'Edit Document' requires a Windows Sharepoint Services-compatible
application and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this is suddenly happening?

Perry

Guess (and I'm wondering which of the five messages I should reply to):

You've run an upgrade on Office XP (There isn't an Office 2002 so I presume
that's what you mean).

You'll need to probably uninstall and then reinstall Office 2003 to recover
whatever key files that Office XP upgrade has changed.

Why are you running both Office XP and Office 2003 on the same machine?

Use method 3 from this Microsoft article.

It's happened to my users many times.

CAUSE
This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true: .
Microsoft Office XP or later is not installed on your computer.
. Office XP or Microsoft Office 2003 is installed on your computer;
however the SharePoint support component that is included in Office Tools is
not installed on your computer. That is, either Microsoft SharePoint Support
or Windows SharePoint Services Support (as appropriate to your version of
Office) is not installed on the computer.
. The Owssupp.dll file is not registered correctly in Microsoft
Windows.

Method 3: Register the Owssupp.dll file
To register the Owssupp.dll file, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and
then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
3. At the command prompt, switch to the folder that contains the
Owssupp.dll file.

By default, the Owssupp.dll file is located in one the following
folders, as appropriate to your version of Office: . If Office XP is
installed on your computer:
Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10
. If Office 2003 is installed on your computer:
Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11

4. Type the following line, and then press ENTER:

5. Click OK when you receive the message that states that the
operation was successful.
6. Type the following line, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 owssupp.dll
7. Click OK when you receive the message that states that the
operation was successful.
8. Type exit to quit Command Prompt.
