I've recently installed Portal Server by following a recommened deployment
guide from MS. The guide made no mention whatsoever of installing Sharepoint
Services 3.0 first just Portal Server on it's own. I now have a portal with
MySite functionality and as far as I can see everything else!

I'm just left wandering whether I'm now missing any functionality or
facility on account of NOT installing WSS.

Can anyone clarify this for me please?

Perhaps WSS no longer needed if you're going for the full portal server
deployment?

Confused...

It's "included" just as it was included in SPS 2003 only this time there
aren't two separate installations.

I presume you by SPS mean MOSS 2007 ...

WSS is pretty much a fundamental part of SPS. See this free e-learning
course for more info on how SPS just builds on the WSS infrastructure.

Thanks for the response, I actually stumbled on the elearning courses shortly
after posting and found them to be very useful. It's certainly made it all a
lot clearer, thanks.
