 - V2 External Licence issues I am developing a Portal on SPP 2003 I have a fully licensed version with CALS for the Portal. When I installed this software it also installed WSS. My idea is to use the Portal for internal office usage and use WSS sites off this for external access. If I use http://spp.mydomain/sites/WSS1 does this break any external licence issues?  - Hide the views of a Document Library in the left handside of the portal. Could some one help me with the following question? Is it possible to hide the Views, which we can create by the document library, in the "Select a view" menu on the left hand side of the portal.  - Mixed storage in SPS? Hello all We're completely new to SPS and we're planning a new installation for testing purposes. We know that in SPS2001 you could define complex approval routes for documents, while in SPS2003 you can just have a list moderator to approve or reject documents. Anyway, they say that if you install the backward-compatible component you can still have approval routes for documents stored in the webstorage. Question is: could we install both storage systems and have simple sites in the portal in SQL while having others in webstorage to implement approval routes for them? From intranet I call this site like this: http://MyServer/sites/TheSite and I need to be able to call it like this http://www.MyDomain.com/TheSite. It is possible?  - Error Creating Database. When im trying to create a configuration database to the SPS2003 site I get an error message stating access rights problem, sql server may not exist and so on. I want to create a configuration database on our SQL server (it doesnt reside on the same machine as SPS2003). So I add the content access account to Power Users on the SPSV2 machine and on the SQL machine. I also add the user to the Database Creators group, Security Administrators group on the SQL machine. But still I get this freakin Error creating database message in SPSCentralAdministrationCenter. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? I find no solution to the problem on the MS support site. SPS2003 resides on a Win2003 server and SQL2000 resides on a Win2000 server with the latest service pack on.  - Access to dev environment setup Hi guys, I know this may seem like a silly question, but if you don't have local admin/access to your SPS development setup there's going to be a whole bunch of things you can't do right (install web parts, change .css files, add custom logos, etc.). So does anyone have this setup out there or does everyone have full access to their dev/test environments? I'm just having some problems getting access to mine because we're getting our SPS setup from a 3rd party vendor and we didn't implicitly say we needed this and that on the dev server (I have local admin on all my other dev servers in the environment, we just figure it's natural).  - AD authentication My SPS is running on a DC. The site includes a page viewer web part which points to an IIS page with Integrated Windows Authentication. I log into the SharePoint site with a valid AD account. Now try to open the page that has the IIS page inside, the login window pops up, so I have to type the same AD account again.  - Second try - portal creation failure I have win2003 + iis6 + final release of sharepoint configuration: stand alone + seperate sql server When trying to create portal - it get stuck on 42% (after success in creating the portal_SITE DB) I've got an nswer : "If you post your setup log we may be more help, but my suggestion would be to reinstall SPS". So, I reinstalled SPS several times. I also reinstalled IIS6. Nothing helps. As for the log files that being kept under c:\Program Files\SharePoint Portal Server\Logs - they are empty. This log files are being created evrer 1/2 minute during the process (till I stop it). Is there more logfiles I can see ? more details: I have another stand alone server that uses the same SQL sever sucssefully. The differances: The good one is desktop.  - Localization Hello - I am looking for a way to have one site, but in different languages? Is there anyway to localize the language in SharePoint, i.e. be able to create the same site in different languages each with thier own link or maybe based on the users local machine settings to display the site in a different language?  - SPS2001 search error I have 2 workspaces. on the one search runs properly. The other workspace, brings up Script Execution Error: Error executing INVOKE query for Folder Information and Documents. I have looked at, I think, all the settings for both workspaces and they appear to be the same. This workspace used to search without a problem.  - Custom Theme-CSS So I have a custom theme that is selectable for sub areas and sub sites throughout my SharePoint Portal.good. I've created a custom CSS file, that when applied gives me most of the desired look on the root default.aspx and sister pages. good. But there are some elements that aren't taking my CSS settings. For example, the HorizontalNavBar - I need to change the color of the link text. The background color is being changed successfully, although I'm not sure how since there are no settings for the HorizontalNavBar in either my custom.css, sps.css or ows.css files (that I can find anyway). The background of the bar is NOT being changed on the SiteDirectory page (http://yourserver/SiteDirectory/Lists/Sites/Summary.aspx) but the custom /collector areas are getting it.  - Coordinator's privilege doesn't seem to work... Hi, CANNOT figure this out for quite some time now... HELP...HELP. I am adding users to the workspace and giving them Coordinator's permission but when the users login they cannot create, rename, delete or write. They can ONLY READ. I did what i thought would be the necessary things after added the users. 1) IISreset=didn't work, 2) Reboot Server=didn't work, 3)Removed EVERYONE account thinking that it would override the other accounts with the READER's permission=it didn't work! FYI: -My Sharepoint (2001) Server is part of the domain with Active Directory. -Several users added before I took over the environments, work just fine with the Coordinator privelege. That is, they can read, write, rename, delete. HELP>>> What else should I do? Am I missing any steps? Any tricks? Any help on this would be much appreciated it. Thanks in advance.  - Lost ASP.NET Authentication after installed WSS I just installed WSS on one of our ASP.NET Application Server. After the installation, the ASP.NET application got "HttpException (0x80004005)". I changed "<trust level='WSS_Medium' originUrl=''/>" in WSS web.config under wwwroot after I did search from Internet. Then ASP.NET application looks working fine. But we just lost authentication control of application which used to be working fine. We had specified authentication in the application web.config which is under <authentication> section and set <deny users="?"/> meaning anonymous user request sign in. But we can view any pages now without signing in after changing the trust level to 'WSS_Medium'. Does anybody have experience on this case? Thank you!  - Virtual Server gallery Using SPS 2003, I go to add a web part, then browse, I then click on virtual server gallery and I get an error message. An unexpected error has occurred. Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily disable Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator I tried installing the Office web parts which are suppose to go in this gallery but they never get put in there, in fact the web.config file never gets modified to include the parts as safe.  - Trouble creating web folders with Windows XP Has anyone run into this problem: We're running SharePoint 2001 SP1 on Windows 2000 Server SP4. Most clients are Windows 2000 Pro and have no problems connecting to web folders. We're rolling out Windows XP SP1 on our new laptops and users cannot create web folders. If we make the user an administrator on the XP machine, web folders can be created with no problems. If I then remove the user from the Administrators group and try to access the web folder created I get the following error: The query cannot be completed, because of the error (0x80070006): The handle is invalid. The users cannot be paert of the Administrators group for security reasons. I've done many searchs on Google and MSKB for a solution but nothing has worked yet.  - Document loading When loading documents through links or libraries the documents load the appropriate software. I.E. Word docs load Word, excel loads excel etc... When loading a document from a search result the documents load in the browser which does not give te full functionality of editing in the appropriate software. Is this expected or is there a setting that would allow me to make sure the document always loads its software? It seems as if I was searching on a portal and found the document that I would want it to load in the full blown software rather than the browser version of the software! Please advise.  - Edit properties on checked out document Does anyone know why you are not allowed to edit the document properties on a document that has been checked- out by yourself? I get the error message "You cannot edit the properties of a document while it is checked out or locked for editing." when saving changes to the document properties. However, when the document has not been checked-out, I can edit and save the properties. I think this is working the incorrect way. Does anyone else? I just noticed an 'IMPORTANT' message at this address: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/sharepo int/wss.mspx ...stating: Important: Windows SharePoint Services should not be installed on a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server.  - From C:\ to E:\ Hi all, I'm planning to move the SPS databases (SPS01_Config_db, mySPS_SITE, mySPS1_SERV, mySPS1_PROF) to the E:\ drive. These are the steps that I am planning to take, using SQL Server Enterprise Manager. Can I get a confirmation from someone...? Thanks :) (First of all, I can move all 4 SPS databases, right?) > Install SQL Server on the E:\ drive > Shut off IIS > Detach all 4 DBs > Move all 4 DBs > Attach all 4 DBs to the E:\ SQL Server > Restart IIS .... Voila, that should work (or not? :)) I also read that I should not have to worry about notifying Sharepoint of this move...  - Exchange 2000 web part Hello I am having problems getting the exchange 2000 web part to work on my sharepoint 2003 installation. I have followed the instructions to the letter, including configuring Single Sign On. However, whenever i configured the web part with the exchange server details, my username & my NT password, i get the error message that the contents cannot be displayed as i do not have the authourity to view this mailbox. "The error was:ERROR: The remote sever returned an error: (404) Not Found." However, if i open up my web browser and enter the url to the exchange server http://hcentreex1/exchange i can access my mail box. Any and all help greatly appreciated.  - Lotus notes Protocol Handles + title property on SPS 2003 v2 when i go to: Site Settings > Manage Content Indexes > Manage content sources When create a new content source it does (LOTUS NOTES DB) and set the title property as one of field in the DB. For some reason when i dont set the title property it asks for me to set the title property but when i set it. It does not get set. It reverts back to "Choose a Property". Though i go back and edit the content source and select something else (title property) and try to save still it comes back to "Choose a Property". So now during the display the the title field shows some weird characters in the title.  - Posting one item to appear in several sites I have a user that is asking about an easy way for a contributor to put content in 3 sites at once. I can imagine this is possible with a web designer using web parts, but we are wondering if there is a better solution. Her example: One practical example of this is that there are 3 student groups (working on different sharepoint sites) and the professor wants to post the message for everyone. To have multiple instances of the same webpart would allow her to post the message in one spot only and it would automatically be posted on each site.  - Can't change domain name in email notification Hi everyone! I'm using Sharepoint Portal Server 2001 SP2A on Windows 2000 Server without Active Direcrtory Domain Controller. Sharepoint Portal Server sends email notification with sender address in following form: WorkspaceName@ServerName.domain_suffix Such format satisfies my implementation requirements. I only need other domain_suffix than install moment one to be present in sender email address. But I can't change it! Old suffix is removed from all TCP/IP settings, there is no old suffix anywhere on the server: neither in registry, neither in files text content, nor in network settings. But still notifications are sent with suffix which was present at Sharepoint installation moment. Looks like suffix is captured at install moment and fully qulified server name is saved somewhere. Please tell me what is to be done to change domain suffix in email notification on current installation?  - Script Execution Error: Invalid Query (SPS 2001 Installation) I installed MS Sharepoint Portal Server 2001 on a Windows 2000 server SP4. After the installation is completed I was prompted for creating the Workspace and this also completed with no error. But when I tried to browse the workspace with http://<server>/<workspace> I encountered the error "Script Execution Error: Invalid Query" under all Webparts. Although I am able to add documents/categories under the Web folders via windows explorer. So I installed it in another PC with the same configuration this time also it was installed without any errors. And the "Script Execution Error: Invalid Query" was not displayed this time around. But the web folder was not visible in explorer. when we try to do an "Add Another Network Place" we are getting the following error message. "To connect to a backward-compatible docment library, you must install the client components of the document library component for Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003." It am really not sure why I should install SPS 2003 client component for a 2001 installation. Just to give it also a try, I downloaded the 2003 client component for backward document library compatibility, and as you would have correctly guessed it, the installation would not go through. It needs a SPS 2003 installation, which again needs a Windows 2003 installation!!! Anyone encountered this problem before or know what needs to be done please help me...  - Licensing question Does anyone know what the Sharepoint Portal 2003 Internet Connector license covers? Is that unlimited access for anyone connecting to that front-end server or is it restricted (i.e. can only browse, but cannot author/administer)? Also do you need an Internet connector license for every server in the farm? What if you decide to use SQL 2000 as the backend? Do you need the Internet connector (or per processor license as it now is)? We need a SPS 2003 to connect to the Internet and would like to know what the costs are.  - Cannot access site even with correct login I just installed SPPS 2003 on a Win 2003 server. I can access the central admin pages of WSS and SPPS just fine. But when I create a WSS site or a SPPS portal site, I cannot access them. It keeps prompting me with a login box. Even entering the site owner's login doesn't work. Eventually, I get the "Server Error in '/_layouts' Application." error. I tried turning custom errors off.  - Sites not appearing in Site Directory I'm finding that some Team Sites are not appearing in our portal's Site Directory, even when logged on as an SPS admin. I know the sites exist, becuase I can go to them! It would seem that they're not getting indexed; however, the Gatherer logs for the portal say that the crawl of the Sites completed happily. I have Sharepoint portal 2003 and I made a backup for a site and when I try
to restore it in a different machine --- a message appears said --
Different version and exit the restoring process

so can you help to solve this

Check the version number in the backup XML file and make sure that it
matches the version that is listed in Add/Remove Programs.

You need to restore to the same version of SPS that the backup was made
from.
