    - SharePoint 2007 Upgrade Question I've googled a little bit and I'm getting too many irrelevant results, I apologize if this is a RTFM question. My company started using SharePoint 2007 Beta 2 and has created a site with a few sub sites. We have a moderate amount of information in one of the sub sites. We're ready to try the upgrade, but nothing in the instructions indicate that the sites current information will be retained. My question is if we upgrade follow the upgrade path (remove beta, install rtm), will the content we've created in the beta be present in the rtm or will we need to start from scratch?     - search cant find anything! I am settng up a *very* simple MOSS single server instance to demo search on existing fileshares - in less than 24 hours(!) - and we have hit a brick wall. We made a shared services instance and configured it to crawl and existing fileshare. It tells us it has 247,000 documents have been indexed (and its still going) but whatever search term we enter into the home page of the portal always fails to find anything. Any ideas? How do we 'link' the portal home page default search box to the index that has been built? We only have the default scope that came out of the box which as I understand it is 'everything'. ??     - 2007: Change title of page Another trivial question... How do I change the title (HTML <title> tag) of my pages? My home page currently appears as "Pages - default" and other pages are similar (eg. "Pages - VisionandDirection"). I must be missing something simple, because I've looked all over and can't figure out how to change the titles!     - Team site cannot be found Can someone please help me with the following: I create a sharepoint teamsite using Admin.createsite. This places the site in http://myserver/SDKsite. Everything works fine exept one thing. I can open the team site but i cannot find it using the search button. What should i do to make the site searchable using the Admin.creatsite methode?     - Search not working in MOSS 2007 Hi Im having problems getting the search to work in MOSS 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) Im running a farm setup with one machine running all the services. I have created a publishing site and when i try to search for something i get an "Unknown Error". When I go to the site settings to setup "Search scopes" or "Search keywords" i get an "Unknown Error". When I create a team site and try to search for something i get an "Unknown Error". When try to search for something I get no error in the event log. When i start the search service on the server i get no error in the event log. When i remove the search service from the server i get the following errors in the event log: Volume Shadow Copy Service information: The COM Server with CLSID {4e14fba2-2e22-11d1-9964-00c04fbbb345} and name CEventSystem cannot be started. [0x800401f0] Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x800401f0. Does anybody know what I can do find out what is wrong? Im clueless.     - Prefilling user information on an InfoPath form from SharePoint Hi, I'm trying to pre-fill a few InfoPath form fields from the current user's profile (the person filling the form). These include fields like full name (i.e. not username), email address, work phone number, department, etc. They are all fields that are stored by SharePoint. How do I go about doing that? So far I have tried setting up a data connection to the User Information List on my SharePoint box: One of the fields I'm bringing back is User_name. When setting the default value on say, the Department textbox, I filter the Department field returned from SharePoint by comparing the User_name field with the UserName() function. This results in the following XPath: xdXDocument:GetDOM("User Information List_FormTopSection")/dfs:myFields/dfs:dataFields/dfs:User_Information_List/@Department[../@User_name = xdUser:get-UserName()] This seems to work fine if the UserName() function returns exactly the same value (including case) as the usernames contained in the list. The problem is that UserName() seems to return the current user name in lower case. If the username held in SharePoint is not all lower case, no data is returned. I guess me questions are: 1. Am I missing something obvious and are in fact trying to reinvent the wheel? 2. If this is the way to do it, how do I match username's regardless of case? Any help appreciated!     - Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007 and Forms Authentication I am in the process of setting up an extranet site for my company. I have configured the site to use forms based authentication and all is working well. The problem that I am having now deals with adding uses to the site. The only documented way that I can find for adding users is by way of Visual Studio 2005 and asp.net configuration. The web site that it creates allows me to create users in the database for the forms based auth. This seems like a great deal of over head for creating users. Is anyone aware of an easier way of creating uses with forms based auth.?     - Installing Project Server 2007 AFTER MOSS 2007 Installation I currently have a MOSS 2007 farm up and running. 2 WFE's NLB, 1 Search, 1 SQL Server.     - SharePoint2007: Unable to create Portal Site Template I have been trying to create a portal site template in sharePoint 2007, but the method mentioned in msdn (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms553545.aspx) does not work. In step 2 where we need to add a template element in webtemp*.xml that contains the file name of the portal site template file just created, i do not undersatand how can that be done because in template element we need to specify the name of the folder which contains the onet.xml file for that template (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms545442.aspx), which in my is not there. Can someone please help me out how i can include the simple portal site template file present at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms550231.aspx in my webtemp*.xml file.     - Missing Template for the Internet Presence Web Site MOSS 2007 RTM, Enterprise Edition clean install on Win2k3 with SQL 2k5. I finished setting up the Shared Services Provider and am ready to roll out the first site collection, but the Internet Presence Web Site template is missing. Searching this newsgroup and the web it looks like some other people have had trouble with missing templates. Has anyone found a definitive cause or a good work-around yet? There is a directory at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATES\SiteTemplate\ named "BLANKINTERNET" but no option for a blank internet site appears under the "collaboration" tab.     - problem with SahrePoint Hi, I have 3 problems: 1e one: I made a site on sharepoint portal (using sharepoint 2003). I can't find it directory under site link. I can only find it throw URL address. 2e one: In the site I created about 5 web part page I chose standard layout template. I can add "Office Scorecard view". But I can't modify the shared page. I read here and there about it, it has been told I have to install FrontPage to can modify the pages on the site. I installed the FrontPage but it didn't help. I click on Modify shard page but it is not working. 3e problem: When I add an Office scorecard view with Privotchart or Pivot table. The Privotchart and the Pivot table are not displayed. I getting the fallowing error: "Failed to get data.     - Making a copy of a SPS 2003 site on another server Hello all, I have a task to perfom and would like to ask for an advice about the best practice. I have a production environment consisting of a computer hosting the SPS 2003 with a portal site and another one hosting the SQL Server 2005. Now, I have set up a laptop for the demonstration purposes that has SPS 2003 (no sites created yet) and SQL Server 2005 installed. I would need to make a copy of the aforementioned portal site on the laptop that would work with no connection to the company LAN, but standalone instead. What's the best way to transfer and configure a workable copy of the SPS portal site to the laptop?     - Cannot Access "Configure Search and Indexing" Page Hello all, I am unable to get to the "Configure Search and Indexing" Page under site settings. What basically happens when I try is that it takes a long time and the page never comes up. We had earlier had a problem with the non-portal content index and were able to reset the index after some difficulty.     - SPS 2003 memory usage We have a SharePoint portal 2003 server with a bunch of documents held within a document library in a site. SharePoint 2003 has been installed on top of a full copy of SQL 2000. I have noticed that the memory usage of the sqlserver.exe never exceeds 800,000 K. The settings in enterprise manager are: dynamically configure minimum=0 maximum=4096 (or whatever installed the installed memory is) What gives? Would there be any benefit to pushing the minimum up higher than 800000K? I thought that it would be aggressive in it;s memory usage and take everything it could.     - Sharepoint 2007 "Project tasks" list template problems When I make a new "Project Tasks" list, and save it as a template - I cannot make a new list based on that template. The template appears in the list fine and I can name the new project tasks list, but when I push the button to make it, I get this error: "Error. Cannot complete the action. Please try again."     - When clicking on item in Documents, it asks for login/pass again I have a Sharepoint 2003 server with Windows authentication. When I first go to the site, it asks me for my Windows login/pass and lets me in. I can navigate the whole Sharepoint site without being asked again. However if a user is trying to add users and he looks up users in Active Directory, then he can see all users in Active Directory. How can you limit a user within an Organizational Unit so he can only search for users within his OU?     - Help with Editing SharePoint Pages with Visual Studio 2003 Hi, I'm currently starting to use SharePoint to create a intranet application for my company that will link to reports from Reporting Services. I want to be able to show a list of Reports on the left hand panel (the Quick Launch), which when clicked will directly open the reports in the main frame. I understand that FrontPage 2003 is the best product for developing SharePoint pages, but i do not have access to this. I do a lot of work on Visual Studio 2003, so i am looking to implement all this using Studio only. I am able to edit the default template pages, but for my indivitual sites, this is not possible (which is fair enough as it is all XML based).     - MOSS graph/chart using excel services I'm aware there's no more OWC web part support (sadly), but am curious if anyone's attempted to get around this using excel services? I have several lists / infopath libraries / etc. that reside in MOSS 07 that I would like to be able to create reports / dashboards around. >From what I've seen thus far, this isn't possible. Excel services will let me upload a spreadsheet with an external data source, but I don't see a way to link an excel services spreadsheet to sharepoint data (export only).     - DSPanel WebParts,WSS3.0 and ODWP Hi We have a BI Application running on WSS2.0 which displays Dashboards and Graphs using DSPanel (www.dspanel.com) webparts. I recently tried to put the app on MOSS2007 but found to my horror that Office Data WebParts (ODWP) are not supported on MOSS2007. As far as i know DSPanel WebParts depend on ODWP to do their job. Does this mean that DSPanel is now screwed up because MSFT is not supporting ODWP on 2007 and 3.0? I tried to upgrade to WSS3.0 - even that does not have the ODWP - not even WebCapture WebPart!!     - Public profile cannot load problem When i add a person in a General group (e.g. under a devision Information Systems) and i click on the person i should see that persons public "MySite". Even when i go to my personal site i can't access my own public site! It used to work, but now it seems like the page keeps loading and after 5 minutes of loading i get a 'page cannot display' error.     - Problem Connecting Office 2007 and MOSS 2007 I've built a Virtual PC (VPC) image which has the following configuration: Windows Server 2003 R1 with Microsoft Loopback Adaptor DNS Active Directory POP3 / SMTP Mail SQL Server 2005 Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 (final release) Office 2007 Project Pro 2007 (client, not server) The problem that I'm having is when I create a new document from within a MOSS site, or when I attempt to edit a document from within a MOSS site (i.e. "Edit with Microsoft Word" or "Edit with Microsoft Excel"), there is a connection problem between MOSS and the Office application. When I create or open a document from MOSS, I get an error stating that the Document Information Panel was unable to open. When I attempt to edit a document from within MOSS, then I try to save the changes back to the MOSS document library, I get an error stating that there is a connection problem with the server. Sorry, I don't have the exact verbage of the errors; if it's helpful, then I'll fire up the VPC image, recreate the problem, and post the verbage here. However, I've found that when I try to create a new MS Project file from within a MOSS document library, there is no error (partially due to the fact that Project 2007 doesn't have the Document Information Panel like the other Office apps?). Also, when I edit a MS Project file from within a MOSS document library ("Edit in Microsoft Project"), I am able to make changes to the file and save back to MOSS without problems. Please note that the Office 2007 apps, including MS Project 2007, are all installed directly on the server within the VPC, and they're being run directly on the server. Are there any Office components that I'm missing? Could there be a network configuration problem inside the VPC image? Thanks in advance! It should be real easy to do this but I am just not seeing it. All I would
like to do is on the Create New Site page (newsbweb.aspx) move the Custom Tab
that shows up to the first position. How would I go about doing this? I
know that if I update the webtemp.xml file I can add in a new Category and I
was able to get that in the first position but I am then unable to use the
.stp files that I have created.

Any help would be great. Is there a webtempcustom.xml file that I am not
seeing?
