    - SPSV2 Technical Refresh and McAfee PortalShield Has anyone installed the PortalShield beta on the SPS V2 Technical Refresh? The release notes from McAfee states "This release has not been tested against the recently announced Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server v2.0 beta 2 refresh and Microsoft Windows Team Services v2.0 beta 2 refresh releases." Well then where am I supposed to install it? Previously we weren't supposed to install SPS V2 on the RTM version of Windows Server 2003, and now that we can install the Technical Refresh on the RTM version of Windows Server 2003, the PortalShield hasn't been tested against the Technical Refresh. So as far as the documentation for these products states, there has yet to exist a combination of these products that I can install and test together. Am I missing something?     - SharePoint Portal Search service After updating SPS V2 to SPS V2 technical refresh I have two diffrent services "Microsoft SharePointPS Search" and "SharePoint Portal Search" that have the same executable path "C:\Program Files\SharePoint Portal Server\Bin\mssearch.exe". It is possible to start the "Microsoft SharePointPS Search" service, but not the "SharePoint Portal Search" service, which hangs with the error message "The SharePoint Portal Search service terminated with service-specific error 2147500053 (0x80004015)" .I'm not trying to start both of them on the same time.     - Folder Cannot Be Not Found in SPS v.1 Hello All, I came into work this morning to find that one of the coordinators over a document library folder had tried to delete some folders and change some permissions (no real details here). Now in that folder's subdirectory are two folders that appear to be there, but when I double click on them to open them, I get an error that states "The folder cannot be found on the server." The contents of the folder are empty. When I right-click on the folder and go to properties, I get "Unable to display properties." Any ideas on how to clear this up?     - Document Management in V2 Hello guys, I've just started to experiment with SPS v2. Everything looks cool but I am confused regarding the document mangement features in V2. Can anyone pls help me clarify somethings: 1. What happens to the document management capabilities (similar to the SPS v1)? I cant seam to be able to assign approval, to approve or reject documents. 2. Is there a way for me to create a document library on the SPS v2 main site? Similar to the Document Library in SPS v1. 3. How do I assign rights to Authors and Approver? What is the equivalent role in SPS v2 ? 4. In My Site, I have configured a document library.     - Issue with Frontpage 2002 and Sharepoint I have the following installed on my PC and they were installed in the following order: - XP Pro - IIS - Frontpage 2002 - Sharepoint I got a couple of Frontpage themes from Microsoft's web site and before my motherboard died, I had one working perfectly. I was using fr-hospital and after I installed it and created a new web using that web site template, I could preview it internally or in a browser and it always looked and worked fine. After getting a new motherboard and hard drive, I reinstall the above apps. For some reason now though, I'm not able to see the Sharepoint navigation menu; the one that says Home | Documents, etc., when I preview the site internally or externally. Internally, I see a message saying "This page contains elements that may need to be saved or published to preview correctly" Any and all help is appreciated!     - PLEASE please I need some help - critical SP questions before I pass out :-) Hi all I am a regular marketing guy trying to set up Sharepoint 2001 version for our Asia Pacific offices to share publishing assets / images etc. I have just discovered at this late stage on work, that Sharepoint 2001 has the following problems. If ANYONE can help me to try and find quick / easy solutions (ie plug-in?) for these I would sooo appreciative. 1) Thumbnails are not inherent to a file listing in Documents area. I really need thumbnails - I know of imagething.net (how much is this?) and Equilibrium (4k), plus I know SP 2003 version supports - but does anyone have a cheap and easy way to display tif, bmp, jpg etc by somehow 'modding' the 2001 code??? 2) Maximum file size upload is 50 meg. This absolutely killed me when I found out - how can Microsoft allow this to happen!!! I know the new version you can set the file size limit, but that's no good to me using 2001. Does anyone have any solutions to over-coming this shortfall in 2001 version? Is there a patch or plug-in?? 3) Is there any way you can patch the code so it automatically displays 'file size' when you see a list of files in the Document section? I have to click into 'show actions' of a file listing to see the file size - this is no good. 4) I can't seem to work out how to place a document asset 'directory' under a category - ie you click on a category, it just lets you insert individual files and not a 'folder'. This sucks since I want to have folder trees accessible after you click a 'category' button. Has anyone solved this one?     - V2: Users or AD Groups I am trying to understand the best way to implement SPS 2003. Should I setup the security with SPS Groups being mapped to AD Groups and not bother with adding the individual users in SPS, or should I do both. Create the SPS Group to AD Group mappings and continue to add user accounts to SPS from the AD groups? What are the pro's and con's. Ultimately I would like to find a way to automatically create the users personal "My Site" and then modify their personal settings to include a url to their picture. All suggestions are welcome.     - Document Subscriptions - email is never sent. I have a web site running on windows 2000 server with sharepoint team services. Everything runs properly with the exception of document change notifications. No subscription emails are ever sent when docs are updated, added, etc. I can send invitation emails from the server, and the local smtp settings are wide open, so I don't think it is an email problem. In addition, Sharepoint appears to be updating the database when the changes are made, although I am not 100% sure on this. What steps can I take to track this error down? Are there registry settings that I can play with to get this working? What mail queue does sharepoint use? Any help / guidance would be appreciated!     - Printing Are there any tricks to printing Sharepoint pages? I have a page with several web parts and it prints very screwy.     - [v2] stupid simple question I wrote a company stock updater that supposed to display the companies current stock info but for some reason I can't get it to update every minute. I added a System.Timers.Timer and put an elapsed time of 1 minute and to call a method in my program to update. I'm not sure if it's updating because even if it is, it's not making a callback to RenderWebPart. How do I make it so it calls the RenderWebPart method as well as my updater method every minute?     - Adding users to a site We are having a really strange set of problems. Running AD, on 2003 Enterprise server, and SPS v2 on 2003 Standard, users in OUs will not be recognised at all by the "add user" pages (except as members of a group).     - Trying to edit in datasheet using office XP and SPS V2 I am obviously missing something on my machine. Users who are using office beta 2003 don't have the same issue, they are able to edit items in the datasheet. However, I am using office xp and keep receiving this error when trying to edit something in the datasheet. The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or both of the following reasons. -A windows sharepoing services-compatable datasheet control is not installed. -Either your browser doesn not support active x controls, or suppor for active x is disabled.     - [V2] Wierd problem with adding a webpart Most of the Webparts I've created have added and then when I drag them on to the webspace add correctly with no security error. However I recently created one that adds fine but when I drag it into the webpage, it gives the "Not a safe control" error. However, if I go into the Site Settings, then Site Administrator then Manage Web Parts and add the webpart there first, it will appear in the [site] Library under Browse webparts instead of the Virtual Server Library. (well it still appears in the virtual server library but dragging from there still gives a security error). If I drag it from the Site list now onto the site it adds correctly with no security error.     - v2: More web folder strangeness So I've created a site and then a document library. Using a Windows NT and Windows 2000 client I can successfully create a web folder for the library using the url: http://servername/sites/zzz/doclib However, I cannot successfully create a web folder on the Windows 2003 Server RC2 machine that SharePoint Portal Server resides on. If I try to, I get an error message that says 'The folder that you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another.' Anybody run into this? I installed Portal Server V2 Beta 2 on a MSDN version Win2003 Enterprise server.     - upload files programmatically in v2 We're trying to upload files programmatically from the server's hard drive into a Sharepoint Repository, such as "Shared Documents" in one of our WSS Sites. When doing this as per the SDK's recommendation, we get the following error: The security validation for this page is invalid. Click Back in your Web browser, refresh the page, and try your operation again. The first thought here was that we didn't have the proper FormDigest control or the proper imports at the top of our aspx page. However, after making sure we put the right stuff in there as per the SDK, we still got the error. The reason I know we did this properly is because if I take those lines out of our aspx page, we're unable to do such sharepoint interactions as creating and deleting users, creating sites, or creating contacts, which were all things we were able to do just fine. When taking out the lines from the aspx page we get the same error I wrote above in italics. But it seems adding those lines back in only resolve the add/remove functionalities for list items only, but document add/remove attempts still give us that security validation error. Any ideas?     - Category Redirect from Portal/Category broken On my production workspace either of the following works to display categories: http://<servername>/<workspace>/Portal/Categories http://<servername>/<workspace>/Categories But when I restored the workspace to another server only this link works. http://<servername>/<workspace>/Categories This is a problem because the dashboard link (tab) and several scripts are coded to go to http://<servername>/<workspace>/Portal/Categories instead. Everytime I try to check my Workspaces via Word, Excel etc. I get the error message, "Getting Updates failed" and I am not able to view my documents, my team members, etc. It is a Sharepoint 2003 (TR) installation with a separate SQL Server.     - STORE.EXE memory limit Hello: I am using SharePoint Portal Server 2001 in a Windows 2000 Advanced Server with 654,880KB of physical memory. It has also the SQL 2000 Server installed. I am having problems with the memory usage of the STORE.EXE process, because it takes all my RAM leaving only around 5,000KB. It is necesary to restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store in order to free more than 200,000KB of RAM, but after two days the memory is used again.
