Can't create portal site

TheMSsForum.com: The Microsoft Software Forum

Running SPS 2003 (eval version) on Win2003 Server, with
MSDE release A. I am not running Single Signon Service.
(Is this required?) The admin site functions, but attemts
to create a portal fail. Excerpt from log file below.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Can you confirm from another box that MSDE is installed correctly. I was
unable to get this configuration working on the Web edition of Win2K3.

Upgrading to the Standard edition of Win2K3 did it for me.
