Cannot Delete Portal

I am trying to delete a portal on Sharepoint Server 2003. The portal
shows up in "List and manage portal sites" but when clicked, the server
says that the portal could not be found. The portal's databases exist in
SQL server. I want to delete the portal in its entirety; I used it as a
learning experience, and I guess, I did not learn too well.

How can I remove the portal from Sharepoint, SQL, IIS, and where ever
pieces may be lurking?

Try deleting the website in IIS, then deleting from sharepoint admin page.

Hopefully it won't show up on server list anymore.
