That all depends on the template in question. All the folders are located
at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server
extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1033
and this list tells you what the folders are for:
MPS Multi-page Team Site
SPS Portal Home
SPSBWEB SSPS BucketWeb Template
SPSCOMMU Community area template
SPSMSITE SPS MySite
SPSNEWS News area template
SPSNHOME News home area template
SPSPERS SPS Personal Space (not sure how this is different than
MySite)
SPSSITES Site Directory area template
SPSTOC Contents area template
SPSTOPIC Topic area template
STS Has all the other WSS Site templates other than what are in MPS.
These definitions come from the WEBTEMP.XML and WEBTEMPSPS.XML files located
in the XML folder in the folder listed above. For the most part you will
modify the "default.aspx" page to change the look and feel of the page
(after making a backup copy of course ;)
