    - Customizing the advanced search control Hi, I'd like to customize the advanced search web part. My intention is to add an extra dropdown list with attribute names which previously I've also added to a document library. I found at MSDN the article: "How to customize your search using Sharepoint Portal Server 2003". http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp? url=/library/en- us/odc_sp2003_ta/html/office_sharepointportalserversearchbo x.asp It does mention the "AdvancedSearchControl". It belongs to "Microsoft.Sharepoint.Portal.WebControls" namespace. However in the description of this namespace I haven't found any reference to the "AdvancedSearchControl". I've looked it up at MSDN and at SPPTSDK.chm file. Where can I find help about the AdvancedSearchControl?     - E-mail confermation Hello, I'm using a sharepoint list to store bookings. However ideally I would like an e-mail confirmation sent to the author of each list item that is saved showing what data they have saved into the list. Is this possible to do with sharepoint lists? When the number of document in a WSS Library is bigger than the defined limit I get the "Next" link in the bottom of the page.     - Problem with WSS Multipage Site Template Hi, I created a WSS top-level site using the Multipage Site Template and found out that certain common webparts are not included (like page viewer webpart). Instead, there are several 'Untitled' webparts are included. However, there is no such problem if I choose a Team Site template for my top-level site. If I create a site (using Multipage Site template) under a top-level site, I don't get the problem. I will see some common webparts like Members, Page Viewer web part. Any idea?     - SPS 2003: Denying domain admins access to private area Hi all, This may be a simple query... one of my clients has a HR private area with sensitive documents. Is there a way to lock out the domain admins group from this portal area or document library?     - Extranet portal access without port number Hi, We have a small server farm with three portal sites on a single front-end server -- using ports. We have opened them up for extranet access with SSL. We have published them on ISA 2004 server. We want to access these portal sites without port numbers (from extranet). We could achieve this for the default portal. Second and third portal are being accessed with port numbers. Is there any pointer to avoid port numbers? Earlier we were accessing them without port numbers using IP numbers for each portal. As we had some problem with that configuration, we just moved all sites to "all unassigned" and with port numbers. Try crawling the server later, or increase the timeout values. ) One thing that should be said is that I removed and reinstalled SPS, WSS, and IIS, making sure that FPSE2002 was not on the box. I applied SP1 for both WSS and SPS. I created the portal, and then added the old content databases to the new portal. There are 6 databases associated with the portal. Is that a problem? After I added the external content sources, it says it has 1800+ documents indexed. But, before that it only showed 70, and I have 300+ .mht and .doc files in the doclibs. Hollis D.     - Use search scope from another portal site Any body use this feature? I assume that I should just have to go into my child portal (shared services) and enter the url of my parent portal. This should then cause my child portal to start using the search scope of the parent? Am I missing something else I need to do?     - disconnecting from configuration database Hi, we plan to move our SQL databases to new SQL instance. For this migration effort, before we disconnect each of our medium server farm servers from configuration database, do we have to remove that server from component roles (change component settings page). Or, Just disconnect each server in farm from configuration database and reconnect to existing database (i.e., same database moved to new SQL Server) would work without any issues???     - SSL and Virtual Servers Ok â?? so this really sucks. We are building a medium server farm, 2 web nodes behind a network load balancer, 2 clustered servers connected to a power vault and an index/job server. We were hoping to offer SharePoint as a service to customers. Our customers need SSL and here is the rub. Microsoft has told us that they do not support binding IP addresses to virtual server names. Guess what that means? We can only set up one SSL site per web server. These customers want their own DNS name with SSL but we would have to purchase a separate server for each SSL site. We could use virtual servers but that seems like adding a whole extra layer of complexity to an already complex system. The funny thing, we were ready to go production with this system until Microsoft told us the bad news. The system works binding IPâ??s to virtual servers. MS told us there were known issues with this setup (Front page being one) and if we had problems, they would not support us. Has any one else had this problem and if so, what did you?     - Survey - Cross Reference with Active Directory Platform: SPS 2003, Windows 2003, SQL Server, Active Directory Integrated using Windows Authentication I've put out a survey to our users and, since we're tied to AD, it'll pull in their display name when they submit the survey results; however, is there a way I can pull out other information, such as office or department? I'm expecting hundreds of results for this survey and do not want to have to manually cross-reference these individuals with their location since that information is already in AD. If nothing else, perhaps a hidden field that pumps into the survey database results. In a perfect world, when a contributor exports the survey to excel, it will display the ID, the Created By (pulled from Active Directory's display name), and the Department (pulled from AD), then continue on with the survey results. If this isn't possible--how are companies surveying large amounts of users and grouping them? I have horrid fears that I'll end up writing a WSH to read the Excel file and read AD to populate a 2nd spreadsheet--that's not automated and I do _not_ want to explain how to do that to my boss.     - How to reconnect to my portal? I have just uninstalled SPS, WSS, and IIS. Then I reinstalled IIS (Asp.net, and BTI), and SPS2003. It started me off configuring the server, which I think went OK. However, when I went to extend and create a portal, giving letting it use the default config database, and the old content database name, it threw an error saying the config database said it was already extended. What should I be doing to reconnect? Give it a new config database name, and the old content database name? Since I first posted that question in another newsgroup, I detached the config database, gave it a non-standard name for the config database, and successfully extended the site. Now it is asking me to select a template for the site. I want to connect to existing content instead. How do I do that? Hollis D.     - Setting Default Language to UK English Hi all, Here in the UK, we would like all sites to be created with the default locale of 2057 UK english - mainly for the date format - DD/MM/YYYY At the moment, it seems as the locale info has to be changed after the user has created the site. I notice you can configure the default time zone for a virtual server but not the locale. I have also noticed the stored procedure proc_CreateSite which performs the site creation process and accepts language and locale as parameters. my question is that if I alter the sp so that it aways enters the local value of2057 within the store procedure. Then take a copy of all the 1033 folders and named them 2057 instead. Now, whenever I create a site it is in the expected UK English format - we are never going to willingly create a site in the 1033 locale. btw, updating the webs table and setting 2057 as the locale for all existing sites had the wonderful effect of converting them all to display dates in the UK format. is this a bad thing to do? will this go horribly wrong at some point?     - SPS Slowdown - mssdmn.exe & Full Text Search Periodically - not all the time - I am getting multiple mssdmn.exe processes and SPS stops respondings. Typically it clears up after 10 minutes or so, but sometimes it does not. I have read about SQL Server issues but we have SP 3 installed which seemed to fix the issues described. Does anyone else still see this with SPS 2003, SP1 and SQL Server 2000 SP3? I have the PDF iFilter 5.0 installed and also McAfee PortalShield.     - webpart GAC gives error... Hi, I have a problem of deploying the webpart treeview control on GAC. I am able to deploy the webpart treeview by placing the assemblies on Bin directory. Now when I compiled the webpart with strong name keys(for treeview control project and webpart) I did not get an error and deployed with globalinstall parameter successully. When I drag and drop the webpart on the SPPS page, its giving error as 'The "treeviewWebPart" Web Part appears to be causing a problem.' I have verified the assebly folder and 1.its deployed all the dependent assemblies and webpart assemblies. 2.I have verified the web.config file its written the safecontrol with publictokenkeys. 3.Trust level is changed to full. 4.IIS reset done. its added to vertual server gallery when I drag and drop gives error as above. Note that bin directory is not created on portal site as it is deployed in GAC. Please give me the suggestion to correct the webpart? The are more than one field on the document library which should ensure that the dialog is shown.     - Automated Upload of Documents to SPS 2003 Good Day We have an automated process whereby reports are created by a reporting system every night. These reports are dumped / written onto a network share in our organization. Sometimes there is only 1 report but at times there can be up to 50 reports. These reports are now required to be added to a document library in Sharepoint. What we are looking for is a tool which can automate the process of taking the document(s) from the network share and automatically uploading them to Sharepoint, into a document library and using the document name as the document title. At the moment, a user will have to map to the share and add each document manually before the next day, as on the next day the network share is cleaned out by the reporting tool and new reports are generated. Can this automation of document uploading be done and if so, how? I have added the following Mapping Key to the docicon.xml, but when trying to open with the "Edit In" functionality of the pull down menu on the pdf document I get an error.     - changing the homepage gif on all team sites I have 4 Portal Sites on one of my SPS servers. I was able to get rid of the Microsoft Sharepoint Services logo sometime back by changing the homepage.gif file located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\IMAGES. However, It only changes the logo for the initial Portal Site that I created and not the other 3. Is there another place that I need to change this for the other to pick it up as well??? Hi,

I have an Excel spreadsheet stored in a Document Library (in WSS2003). When
I attempt to Import data from it (or create a linked table) into an Access
Database an error is returned saying that 'the import wizard is unable to
access information in the file'.

Taking a local copy of the spreadsheet and performing the same steps works
fine, leading me to think that it is a problem with the sharepoint doc lib.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
