    - Developing with eVC for PPC and WM 5.0 I have an application written in eVC 3.0 (MFC) that I want to port to Windows Mobile 5.0. I need to minimize development time and to continue to support the Pocket PC platform (I currently only support ARMS processors on the PPC). 1. Can I continue to use the eVC 3.0 development platform? 2. What changes are needed to run on WM 5.0? 3. Will the changes be backwards compatible (i.e., will the new source still compile for the PPC or should I branch the source code into two projects)? Any other tips? Thanks for your insight!     - IOCTL_HAL_GET_DEVICEID on HP iPAQ hx2490 I'm using a GetDeviceID() function from "GetUuid" Pocket PC 2003 SDK Sample to obtain an unique device ID and it is working fine so far, but I've faced a problem using it on an HP iPAQ hx2490 Pocket PC. As prescribed the GetDeviceID() function makes an IOCTL_HAL_GET_DEVICEID call with DEVICE_ID.dwSize member set to 0 (zero), to query the actual required size. Then a second call with the returned required size set results (again) in ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER. Otherwise the function seems to work as expected If I ignore the ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER during that second IOCTL_HAL_GET_DEVICEID call.     - Smartphone Navigation Pad Hi, I have an application working on the smartphone which I converted from WM5 PPC. It all works fine but the only issue that I currently have is that I have CheckBoxes on the View of the application and even though I have set the TAB_STOP property when creating the CheckBoxes I can not get the Focus to change between CheckBoxes, when using the Navigation Pad on the phone. Also I have created a test application and added a WM_COMMAND handler to my View and tried trapping the BN_CLICK event, which I can notified. The problem is that if you click left or right it also sends a BN_CLICK event. If I create CheckBoxes within a DLG box it works and can navigate fine, strange behaviour. One other problem I have seen is with edit controls within a DLG, if you make a mistake entering text the back space key does not delete, though I believe it is supposed to. Thanks in Advance.     - Visual Studio 2003/2005 Debug Over Ad-Hoc WiFi? So we have nifty ruggedized Pocket PCs with wireless cards that support every protocol under the sun...and laptops that currently connect to these PPCs via a horrendous USB 1.1 connection. I know AS 4.X has removed the ability to sync over wireless. No question there. But I know VS has other connection transports that can be used to connect a device to a host computer. And we're still using ActiveSync 3.8 in many places b/c the target device runs a version of CE 4.2 Question: Has anyone found a way to (successfully) use Ad-Hoc wireless networking to debug within Visual Studio 2003/2005?     - Can't load the MyService.dll with Service.exe in pocket pc? Hi, I'm writing the services for PocketPC/smartphone dev. till now I don't start MyService.dll with Services.exe. I do the following steps to start but can not succeeded I'm using CreateProcess("services.exe","load MyService",...) but it can't be shown in the module of service.exe. As I seen one blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/cenet/archive/2005/05/25/421811.aspx) in which he wrote That " The second, bigger problem is that it won't work anymore on PocketPC and SmartPhone 2005 devices or later. This functionality is now disabled by default. It can only be reenabled by setting the registry or value HKLM\Services\AllowCmdLine to be non-zero." so I add AllowCmdLine to 1 in registry but can not load the module.     - Local web service address Greetings, I have been developing a PPC application which calls a web service on the WLAN. I've just been using the IP address to find the web service in VS. I ran into an interesting problem when I went to test at a customer site, because their server does not have the same address. VS is assuming that when you use a web service, it's universally available on the Internet. However in this case we're just accessing local data, and the only reason we're using web services is that the tools we have available aren't supported on any handheld platforms. Obviously VS needs to be able to find the web service in order to construct its interface, so I have to be able to reference our version on our server, but then change the URL for deployment. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I was wondering if we could use a subdomain like ws_sub.ourcompany.com.     - static control doesn't seen hi eveyone, I m trying to create a dialog based mfc application for Pocket pc. In Dialog Editor, I m putting controls onto dialog but I can't see one control that I put on the dialog when I run the project. For example I have 4 static control theese not overlaps between them. in dialog editor all of controls seen correctly but when ý run the project one of them disappeared, doesn't seen on PPC. does anyone have an idea about this situation.     - Emulator wont launch? iHi folks, Just started VS2005 this morning, tried to launch my app in the emulator which was working fine yesterday and ow the emulator fails to launch.     - msi .NET dependency Hi, I've created setup and custom installer(C#) projects using VS2003 to package and deploy an application to a device, but some users are reporting that unless they have .NET 1.1 installed, when they open the msi, they get the following message:- "This setup requires the .NET Framework version 1.1.4322. Please install the .NET Framework and run this setup again..." I know that in general .NET apps run against the version of .NET they were compiled against but this can be overridden in the app config file, but is a similar thing possible in the context of the msi? I enumerate all windows that are meet the following condictions: 1. The window is not child window 2. The window style contains WS_VISIBLE 3. It length of title string is not zero. If it fail to get the icon, then I get the process id by calling GetWindowThreadProcessId and then call OpenProcess to get process handle and then call GetModuleFileName to get file name. Finally call SHGetFileInfo to get the icon handle. It works fine but I cannot get the icons of "Contacts", "Search", "Tasks". It seems the icon not contains in the program files, but in some other resources files. I think the reason may be that the user can customize the icons of these program.     - Trapping Hardware Buttons We are using C# with the CF v2.0 on WM 5.0. We have a requirement to trap hardware buttons to prevent the associated actions while a particular application has the focus. My team has had had no trouble doing this with the HardwareButton & HardwareKeys entities for "normal" buttons, however this process does not seem to work with the "Windows" button that (typically) brings up the "Start Menu" pop-up. We even tried a WindowSink:MessageWindow with a WndProc(Message) handler, but that doesn't get called by the button either. None of us has been successful in finding an answer. But when I tap the phone numbers on the card, some how it does not start the phone dialer. But at the bottom of the screen it displays the "Call" menu option. Nothing happens when I tap that too. But when I go through Start->Contacts, tap a contact and from the Contact card view, when I tap the phone number it dials. Is there some thing that I am doing wrong here? I have SPV C600 phone, and I've managed to connect camera source filter to the default renderer using: m_pCaptureGraph->RenderStream(&PIN_CATEGORY_PREVIEW, &MEDIATYPE_Video, pVideoCaptureFilter, NULL, NULL); I've also built and registered the CNullRend filter. But I can't connect it to the camera source filter. I've tried to implement my own pin, since the default one returns E_UNEXPECTED on GetMediaType(), but still no success. I've tried to connect the pins with Connect/ConnectDirect functions of IGraphBuilder interface, but that fails also.     - How to enumerate camera devices Hi all, I'm trying to access the second camera on a Windows Mobile 2005 device. I use FindFirstDevice() to get a handle to the first camera and then use the returned handle with FindNextDevice() which fails on all devices i tried (HTC Universal, HTC TyTN/Hermes, which both have two cameras). here's the code i use: handle = FindFirstDevice( DeviceSearchByGuid, &guidCamera, &di ); BOOL ok = FindNextDevice(handle, &di2); The returned handle is not NULL, but FindNextDevice() return 0. Using the remote system information tool i can see that CAM1: exists, but there is no CAM2: listed. Has anybody ever managed to access the front camera on these devices?     - doing stuff during device hibernation I have an app running WM5 PPC (Cingular 8125). The app is a client that needs to send periodic heartbeat messages to its server. When the device enters into the hibernate mode the Form.Timer does not seem to work, because I cannot see the heartbeat being sent (maybe the timer works, but the 'OnHeartbetTimeout' cannot run). Is there a way to make it work (preferably without waking the whole device - no need for UI at this point)? What I have also seen is that when the device receives a message from the server, it is able to respond (send a TCP message back), without being explicitly woken up (no use of 'SetSystemPowerState').     - PPC Emulator drives won't load I am running VS.NET 2003 on a Windows Server 2003. I get the following message when logging into the server... "Devices or applications disabled" "Virtual PC/Windows CE Emulator' will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading." Then it says to click for more information and it takes me to the microsoft website but it says there is no information available for this problem.     - Connect PPC before ActiveSync Installed I have never done this (connect a Pocket PC to a computer that did not have ActiveSync installed), but I have heard that it would cause the Windows New Hardware Wizard to establish an incorrect and permanent association with the Pocket PC that is not corrected by merely installing ActiveSync afterwards. I have customers who may have done this, though. My question is, how can I instruct my customers on the proceedure to clear the computer of this incorrect device recognition so they can use ActiveSync properly?     - Enumerating DirectShow MediaTypes on HTC Hermes/TyTN lists only 160x120@7.5Hz ! Hi all, I just got a TyTN and was instantly very impressed with the camera's quality. So i tried my DirectShow camera library which I know to run fine on the HTC Wizard/Universal/Tornado devices, but I immediatelly realized the following problem: When i enumerate the camera modes on the TyTN, the only mode i get is 160x120, 7.5Hz, YUV12. While my lib can play that back without problems, I'd rather acess those modes with higher resolution and framerate. Looking at the built-in camera tool and comparing the video quality againt other devices I'd guess the preview runs at 320x240 at 7.5 Hz (video quality of the preview is really great). I already checked that this is the higher quality camera on the back side and not the low quality camera on the front side.     - PPC 2002 simulator under Linux? I'm trying to run eVC++ 3.0 and the PocketPC 2002 simulator under Windows 2000 Pro, under Win4Lin Pro under Linux. eVC++ seems to run fine; everything in my project compiles and links as usual, but when it tries to start the emulator, it crashes and I get a blue screen, with a Stop Error (PAGE_FAULT_IN_UNPAGED_AREA). I remember getting that same error the first time I tried to run eVC++ under Windows XP (on the metal); the solution was to add the /execute switch in boot.ini. However, as far as I know Win2k does not support the /execute switch, and even if it did, I'm not sure if this kind of low-level processor setting is even supported by Win4Lin. I guess I should try installing XP under Win4Lin, instead of 2000, but my XP CD is sp0, which the Win4Lin installer does not support directly. I'm wondering if anyone is successfully running the PPC 2002 simulator under Linux, maybe by running XP (instead of 2000) under Win4Lin Pro, or maybe by using VMware or Parallels...
