    - Suppressing popup events like "Low Battery" I've got little problem here. I'm in Fullscreen mode with no "x"-button. There is only way to exit the application is tap the screen and then tap certain menu item (which is just a picture - no hWnd associated). Effectively application has got just ONE fullscreen winow. Problem is system messages like "Low battery", "Active Sync" and others... They getting me out of Focus. Effectively it means I'm still seeing my Full-screen window, but it is not accepting any WM_LBUTTON nor others messages of the same category.     - RTTI and dynamic_cast on PPC 2003 SDK I am using eVC++ 4.0 and "Pocket PC 2003" SDK I am having some trouble with some of the std:: calls using exception and RTTI causing problems such as these: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: __cdecl std::exception::exception(class exception <snip> error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "const type_info::`vftable'" (??_7type_info@@6B@) Ok that's fair enough. However I also have several places with dynamic_cast it does not complain. I am wondering why that is? I did not wrote those code nor I am familiar with dynamic_cast. But is it because those particular usage of dynamic_cast did not invoke the use of RTTI?     - How to close a ppc app from desktop via RAPI? Hello - I have a desktop sync app that I'm writing to provide db sync services for a companion ppc app. The sync portion of the app (Jet/PDBs) works fine. I am trying to piece together the RAPI calls to make from the desktop app to determine if the ppc app is running at the time the user requests a sync, and closes the ppc app if it is running. I need to do this to flush and close the PDBs before attempting a sync. I'm guessing I need to query the PDA to get a process handle (if it's running) and teminate the process via the handle. I've poured over the ce docs, but just can't seem to find what I need. Can anyone offer the functions and declares to do this. Source is VB6.     - Sync with desktop app Hi We have an app with access db backend which is used to enter daily orders. Is it possible to upload these orders daily to a windows mobile 2003 device (we are using xda http://www.my-xda.com/), to allow each client to sign their order on delivery on the wm2003 device and then download all accepted orders back to the desktop app? What I am not sure is how to upload/download data from desktop (or server) to the wm2003 device and how to detect and record client signature.     - How to mix GDI and GAPI? I'm porting an already functioning application from Smartphone to Pocket PC and have encountered a problem when using GAPI. I play a movie and displays the frames using GAPI. During the this I need to do some stuff with regular GDI-functions - for example using DrawText to show the time that has passed and also changing a menu button from Pause to Play when it has been hit. The correct text is displayed, but only for some milliseconds - then the background is repainted and the text disappears (or, in the menu-case, gets back to "Pause"). This is strange since the area where I use the GDI-functions is not in the same area as I use GAPI. Somehow GAPI forces a repaint of the whole window. As I said, this is not the case on the Smartphone, so I don't know what I should do different on the Pocket PC. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! /Daniel PS.     - how to find out SD card has been locked I have been experimenting with LOCKED SD cards. It seems that you can write files to a locked SD card in your SPV - you can copy the file, modify the file etc. However, the file is not really on the SD card at all, it seems to be held within some sort of internal buffer, as when you remove the SD card and then re-insert it, the file(s) are no longer there. The dissapearing files is of course the correct behaviour - however, I would prefer the behaviour to immediately tell me that the SD Card is locked, hence I will not be fooled into thinking that I am successfuly writing data to a locked SD card.     - TOSHIBA: The Only Non-Widcomm Bluetooth Stacked PDA Hi all, if you're developing application on a Widcomm stacked pda (HP iPaq, Dell Axim, Asus MyPal... most of brands), whenever you open a comm port from your application, stack will pop up a device selection screen. Although this is so disturbing and cause your application require user intervention, you can accept it. But, if the user selects a not appropriate device that will not understand your output, probably your application will hang. This situation should be expected since the stack performs a device search while displaying the recently connected devices. As the stack find and list a new device, old ones will slide. Which may cause the user mistakenly select a different device that s/he had to select. If you had this problem and digged the net for days, with a great possibility all the sources led you to one of these 2 sources: high-point.com's $30 worthy BTAccess or Widcomm's SDK. The latter is non sense cause the stack is already a product of Widcomm and the SDK is so expensive. They earn for their stack's disability. The former is a cheap solution. But, as a programmer, this must hurt you to pay for a software, huh? You think you should have done it :) Yes, if you're a intermediate C++ programmer, you should and you can. I tried but I couldn't because I'm not that kind of coder. But I've learned something. First, the best way is using Winsock libraries. What you need is some bluetooth api headers and samples. BluetoothAPIs.h and especially Ws2Bth.h which includes definitions for enabling use of BTH constants / structures with Winsock functions. Plus BT_api.h. You can have them after installing Core SDK (part of Platform SDK). Another option, use Toshiba e800/e805 or upcoming e830. Toshiba developers (thanks gratefully) has built their own stack. They care about their developer customers. And this is so easy to use comm objects with Toshiba. You can even assign COM ports to devices with some registry tweaks. Then say goodbye to Widcomm.     - DESKTOPTODEVICE adofiltr error 2146824448 Error -2146824448 is defined as 'An error has occurred while retrieving information from the host database'. Background: VB5 desktop application reads a text file and parses the information into a .mdb using MS Jet (dao350.dll). Then the app calls adofiltr.dll DESKTOPTODEVICE to move the .mdb to the Pocket PC as a .cdb. I have hundreds of users, and have never seen this specific issue before: A new prospect is using XP on the desktop, and has the new rz1715 hp Pocket PC (WM2003 SE) using AS 3.7.1. When the DESKTOPTODEVICE call is issued the error -2146824448 is elevated. The process must stop right away as there is no db2ce.txt log file created. Then we tried to simply move the .mdb to the Pocket PC manually - no go, and the same error is elevated. She emails me the .mdb and I try it on my system and everything works well with no error elevated. (XP SP2 AS 3.7.1 WM2003-not SE). We have reinstalled AS on her machine (downloaded from MS Web Site). I have 'googled' this error number 2146824448 {and other searches, 6-ways to Sunday} and find a few, single-post threads identifying a similar condition, but no solutions.     - SnoopSoft discovers major Today Page bug Hi, We've discovered a huge issue with the Today Page in Pocket PC devices. It's been great to see the improvements to the Today page over the years and I really love the fact that the Today Page doesn't hold the lock on the Today DLL's when they aren't enabled like it used to do. However, with the release of our DashToday modules for the Today page, we thought that users could install them and then just pick and choose whichever ones they wanted whenever they wanted to see them. Unfortunately that's not the case. It seems that a device cannot have more than 13 (really strange limit) Today plugins installed. That's not the worst of it though, because if you have more than 13 Today plugins installed, the Today page will randomly not display certain Today plugins in order to keep the listing at 13. Oddly, it doesn't even matter if they are enabled or not. So users with default Today plugins enabled, install DashToday and then their ROM-based Today plugins simply vanish. They are still listed in the Registry and still flagged as Enabled, but they are not on the Today page and they are not in the Today Settings Items listing. It took us forever to track this down but I'm certain that there is a limit of 13 Today page plugins after testing it on 2 Pocket PC 2003 devices. Anyone from Microsoft care to comment on this? I am trying to obtain the signal strength and have read that RIL.DLL is the best way to get this. When i call RIL_Initialize i get the error 0x80070057 which i think means "The parameter is incorrect". I have tried different parameters but with no success.     - What processor/compiler do I have to install for my XScale Axim X3 I am just starting in Pocket PC development. I found articles on MSDN telling me what order to install what in order to be successful, but there is so much I have to watch my disk space. Some of the tools install drivers/compilers for a lot of processors and the total can be hundreds of megabytes of disk space that I just can't spare. None of the processor options in embedded VC seem to exactly identify my XScale processor in my Dell Axim X30. There are processors such as MIPSxxx SHxxx, etc and one X86. Since I only want to do development on my own pocket pc for now, how can I find out which single compiler/processor I need? I know I can install them one at a time and see what works, but that much installing and installing will most likely leave me reinstalling Windows from scratch. eVB3 is part of embedded Visual Tools 3.0. You can download it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=f663bf48-31ee-4cbe-aac5-0affd5fb27dd&displaylang=en.
You might want to know that eVB is at its end of life, so if you start
developing a brand new product you might want to take a look at Visual
Basic.NET. However, you need Visual Studio.NET 2003 professional or higher
to be able to develop mobile device applications in either VB.NET or C#.
