    - PC card services I am developing a PCMCIA card driver for the HP iPAQ with an ARM processor running Windows CE Pocket PC 2002. I do not have the PCMCIA card services library to properly link my driver to and download to my target iPAQ. Does anyone have the correct .lib file for the ARM target processor or know where to get it? I have the lib for the mips and x86em platform from someone that had developed code a long time ago but can not even find these anywhere. When I link to these it links okay but then it fails on download since it is the wrong target (as expected). I need card services library for the arm processors in the iPAQ.     - PocketPC and Serial port access Hello, folks. I am new to developing for the PocketPC (or any kind of PDA!), so if this is a silly question, apologies! I need to read from/write to the serial port on an iPaq. I can do it on the PC, using a 3rd-party RS232 class, but it won't work when developing a Smart Device Application, because the libraries are not available. Can I do this somehow - using VB.NET 2003?     - EzSetup Hi, I'm trying to use EzSetup, using a close varient of the .inf file and .ini file found in the MS standard help libruary. I get a valid CAB which will install if I get it onto the PDA. However, when I execute the self-extract from exsetup, I get (after the end user licence agreement) "Application manager cannot install the application on your mobile device due to an invalid setup file. Reinstall and try again". I've been hacking without success for hours without joy, and am beginning to loose the will to live. Basically, does anybody know why this might be?     - Cannot start Pocket PC emulation I am using XP Pro with SP1 and I install embedded visual tools 3. The installation completed successfully. However, when I want to debug the project from Pocket PC 2002 emulation in evb, the XP prompts embedded visual basic encountered a problem. The problem is: AppName: evb3.exe AppVer: 3.0.0.87 ModName: vba6.dll ModVer: 3.0.0.87 Offset: 000cd0ce In event log, it states there is an application error with a message: "Faulting application evb3.exe, version 3.0.0.87, faulting module vba6.dll, version 3.0.0.87, fault address 0x000cd0ce." I try to format the harddisk and re-install the embedded visual tools. However same problem exists. I really do not know what to do. I hope you can help me.     - My kingdom for a useful sync solution I use Outlook XP at work and home. I want ONLY work data on my work PC. I want work AND home data on my PPC and home PC. So my desired state is: AXIM - hold personal and work data Home PC - hold personal and work data Work PC - hold ONLY work data It seems that the only way to accomplish this is through flags - maybe by using catgories. Sounds great, but... Activesync - the solution of filtering by catgory only works from the PPC to the PC and NOT the other way around. Xtndconnect - works the same as Activesync. Intellisync - looked promising and actually offers the function I need, but it is terribly finicky, and hosed my data more than once. I gave up after one week. TrueSync - I`d try it but there is no demo. I`m at a loss... ultimately, my data is more important than my device. I can replace most PPC apps I use with similar (or better) Linux or Palm apps.     - EVC 4 SP2 OCX I have an application that was developed using EVC 3 for the PocketPC 2002 platform. It utilizes an OCX component which is loaded by the application using CreateControl (Create). Under EVC this API seemed to work fine. Now with EVC4 SP2 I get the following error 120:This function is not supported on this system.     - EVC3 MFC app works on PPC 2002 but not on 2003 I have a relatively large MFC based app created under EVC3 that runs fine on PPC 2002 but will not run on 2003. I added some tracing to it and I have discovered that the call to the base class' CFrameWnd::OnCreate never returns! just hangs. Anybody have any ideas what might be going on here? Is there any way that I can make the EVC3 debugger work with a PPC 2003 target machine? Hello I am trying to access the serial port from within an HTML page: I try to create the CECOMM object using the HTML <object> tag and then try to catch the OnComm event with a little script.     - Pocket PC 2003 / kernel-mode vs user-mode It seems that Pocket PC OEM's have the choice to implement Pocket PC 2003 on their device so that applications run either in user-mode (i.e. restricted), or in kernel-mode (i.e. all privileges). On Pocket PC 2000 and 2002, all applications run always in kernel-mode (i.e. with all privileges), i.e. they can execute privileged instructions and performed privileged system calls, such as KernelIoControl(IOCTL_HAL_GET_DEVICEID, ...) to obtain the unique device ID. Applications, when restricted to run in user-mode, cannot execute privileged instructions and performed privileged system calls succh as KernelIO. This causes serious compatibility issues, i.e. many applications and games designed for Pocket PC 2002 will not run on the Pocket PC 2003 devices that restrict applications to run in user-mode only. Of course, there are security issues involved, and in the case of Pocket PC "Phone Edition", allowing applications to run in kernel-mode means that all applications can access the entire system (and network) with no control. This may be a problem. But security issues for regular Pocket PC does not seem to be such a big issue. Restricting Pocket PC 2003 to run applications in user-mode causes serious compatibility issues and we have experienced the problem already! On Pocket PC, PocketTV currently relies on some code that can only run in kernel-mode, so it does not run on the Pocket PC 2003 devices that restrict applications to run in user-mode. And yes, there are very good reasons for us to use privileged instructions (and system calls). To give you only one: There is no reliable system call in the Pocket PC that provide the Processor ID (i.e. to determine if it is StrongARM, Xscale PXA 250, Xscale PXA 255 etc). We need this information (100% reliably, in order to determine if we can run Xscale-optimized code or not), so we need to use a privileged instructions to access the Processor ID. The Pocket PC system calls that are supposed to return the processor type is almost never implemented corectly by OEM, so they are not useable (KernelIoControl(IOCTL_PROCESSOR_INFORMATION,...) and GetSystemInfo()). On Smartphone 2002, applications run in user-mode unless they have a credential (certificate) allowing them to run with a more elevated level of trust. There is a very complicated system to deal with this. And this creates problems (e.g. impossible to determine the processor type!!!). Do we really need this on Pocket PC 2003 ? There seem to be a lot of confusion among Pocket PC OEM's regarding how to adress this issue. Can someone from MS comment on this SERIOUS issue ? Thanks. Tag: weird Emulator Problem Tag: 60446

    - Weird behavior trying to access a web app, using a DNS entry pointing to my app. Hello, How's everybody??? I have a Web Application(written using Visual Interdev) installed on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. The application is set up to use Integrated Windows Authentication ONLY, and I'm also accesing a SQL Server Database installed in the same computer. I have an entry(MYWEBAPP) on the DSN SERVER pointing to my application, like this.http://10.14.0.1/mywebapp/default.asp. When I try to access the application using the DNS Entry I receive an error that says: "cannot connect using current settings". I am using DHCP, and when I do a ping to MYWEBAPP I receive answer. If i try to access the application using the whole path for the URL, I have access to the application but instead of asked me for the credentiales to authenticate the user, it tries to connect using Anonymous logon although I have ONLY Integrated Windows Authentication checked, I received an error that says Authentication failed for user IUSR_MACHINE_NAME. I mentioned the two issues because there can be related.... But I know understand why when I try to access the application using the DSN entry server, PIE doesn't understand this???? When I access the application from my PC using Internet Explorer and the DNS Server everything works perferct, if I try to use the whole path, it behaves the same than in the PIE(giving the error about the authentication).     - Software Abnormal Shutdown Hi, there, I am using PPC2002 and eVC++3.0. I have designed a software for serial communication. It worked fine when running in emulator mode. However, when running in iPAQ 3800, it can shut down itself abnormally occassionally, specially after a long time run.There is no resource leakage found by MemTrack, and no error caught by TRY CATCH block. It processes both Binary and ASCII messages coming from the serial port.When I disable the message processing function, or disconnect the serial port, the problem will never happen any more.     - How to stop phone app from popping up Hellow Fellow PPC developers, I am trying to write my own phone application on pocket pc. As far as outbound calls are concerned I can launch my program and complete the call without invoking the default phone app . However, for an incoming call, pocket pc seems to launch the default phone app regardless of whether my custom phone app is running or not. I would like to be able to stop the default app from popping up when an incoming call is received. Any tricks/ideas that might help me do this ?     - GAPI slow/buggy on e350 (PPC2003)? I have an app that does a little bit of animation using GAPI and it works great on the 20 or 30 so PocketPC thru PocketPC 2002 PDA's I have tried. The little animation is choking big time on the e350 (Pocket PC 2003) PDA. Anyone else noticed any oddities or things we have to do different (like the h3800 family)? What it does is seems to draw very slowly at times. Sometimes it is normal, but most of the time the animation just crawls. It's like the UI thread priority just dies or something. When i start the Emulator from eVC++ 3.0 i got following Window

The Problem is, i canot resize the Window
so I'm not able to access half of the screen!

Does somebody know what I've done wrong?

Starting the Emulator manually from the Commandshell works finde
but I'm not able to connect to an already running Emulator Session!
