Can anyone give me the low down or point me at some real documentation for
this PPC exe?

Many thanks

Andrew,
There is not a whole lot out there on TMail, but for me, the most useful
site by far is Tom's site which I listed below for you. That one is well
done with lots of screen shots and clear explanations of things. Also I have
been told that Tom is good at responding to questions about the product.
Hope this helps !

Written by Tom (who also wrote the program) This is the best source have
seen.

http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/mobile/articles/ppc_email.html (Not bad)

http://www.xda-developers.com/RIL/ (not so great...)

Thanks Ted

I must confess that I can't see any similarity to the data on Tom's site and
the copy of TMail.exe that seems to ship with every Pocket PC I've looked on
so far, but the other stuff may provide some insight to the way you drive
things.

TMail.exe is the messaging application that handles your email
(POP/IMAP/ActiveSync) and SMS accounts.
What kind of documentation are you looking for?

Re: tmail.exe by Andrew

Andrew

Hi

What I guess I really need is something to replace it.

I have spent most of the day scratching around through old threads in this
and other groups and it seems that tmail is flawed.

What I need to do (along with many many others it seems) is to create an
automatic email message (sent eventually via activesync from the outbox)
that has a body comprising perhaps 20 lines of text and in my case a 64K
attached file of binary data.

Tmail looked like it might be the answer but ...
1. Attach cripples the to, body, subject, and cc functions.
2. The user has to press the damned Send button to make the email go, and
there seems to be no way to programmatically determine that they have done
so.

I'm not a C++ programmer (although I have been a C programmer for over a
quarter of a century and I started VB at version 3 those many years ago) so
giving me examples, however understandable, in C++ doesn't help me cut the
code in VB.net (or C#.net) and anyway that's a long way from my application
as such.

It seems that there is an opening here for a simple managed interface that
will allow the automatic sending of an email and attachment(s), perhaps even
with the body coming from a report file if need be. Or can I assume that
with so many "non-replies" to the posts I have read today it just isn't that
simple any more.

Sorry to be a grouch (just been forced to watch the Grinch on TV and I've
got my neg head on at the moment)

Happy New Year

Have you looked at the CEMAPI interfaces? I don't use VB myself, so I'm not
sure if there are VB apis for it.
CEMAPI is similar to desktop MAPI. It provides interfaces into the messaging
infrastructure.

Andrew,
I had never used Tmail, only heard about it and most of it was from Windows
95 or 98 people. When I did the looking around, it almost sounds like there
are two totally different programs, one Desktop and one Pocket PC version so
I sent to you what looked like the right version, but as you can see....I am
no expert in Tmail ! Just trying to help.

You mentioned that Tmail often ships with Pocket PCs ? I have had now 9
different ones and I have never seen it unless it was under another name,
but will go back and see what I can find as I am curious.
Anyway...sorry the info I gave you was not so great :-(

No problem Tedd

tmail.exe is in the /windows directory on the three machines I have here,
but after a lot of checking it seems it is crippled and not suitable for
what I needed anyway.

So what I need is a simple to call (from vb.net) dll that will send an email
to someone, with a body that comes from a report file, and the ability to
attach a binary data file. It needs to just go when I send it.

Tmail pops up the POutlook send mail screen with either the To, Cc, BCc and
Subject filled in OR you can have a blank email with your attachment that's
not addressed to anyone. Not useful enough for my needs I'm afraid.

Haven't found any so far, but I feel sure that it can't be a huge job for an
enterprising expert.

I'm certain that there's enough of a market that money could be made from
the right little utility.
