    - Transfering files to PocketPC Hi, I am having a dialog based application. When i connect a pocetpc to the system where i have my application running it should check for some files in the PocketPC if the files are not there i need to send the files to pocketpc. But what happens is the activesync is getting the control when i connect the PocketPC and the user is able to Explore the files in PocketPC. I dont want this to happen whenever the required files are transfered or found in the pocketpc then only user should able to explore the PocketPC. So shall i kill activesync when the pocketpc is connected and use RAPI to search for the files and transfer it and then start activesync? Any suggestions?Thanks in advance. This resulsts in the HookProcedure being called over and over and over. Any thoughts on why this might be happening?     - Fullscreen or Kiosk App Problem Hi All, I'm working on a Full Screen/Kiosk dialog mode application that works fine whilst I'm testing it. However, if I leave it a few hours the task bar appears. I have created a base class for all my dialogs which destroys the EmptyCB member; sets the window to foreground; calls SHFullScreen and enlarges the window to full screen (240x320). I've overridden the WM_ACTIVATE message for both the WA_ACTIVE and WA_CLICKACTIVE substates. I've also tried to see which messages my window is getting when it goes wrong so I could intercept it, but to no avail - it looks as though it's not getting any messages. Is it some sort of timer or alarm going off? Why is it not "transmitting" a WM_ACTIVATE message to my window? Any help would be great!!!! Regards Dave Tag: Can I do this using a Pocket PC ? (only com port 4-8 available). I have only one device paired in blutooth connection manager but still can't get com port 1,2,3,5,6,7,9. anybody out there can let me know how should I sort this problem out? or I am going to be crazy if I can not set this tomtom navigator5 system to my mobile.     - sql server in pocket pc i am having trouble with connection for the device emulator to sql server databse residing in my pc. i manage to get network connection to the emulator but i still canot connect to the database. i tried connecting using activesync to my emulator n acces the sql server but i doesn't work. saying there is a connection problem. but i can access the internet using the emulator thru my pc network. i dun understand wat am i doing wrong.? i also tried using the NE2000 to connect to my pc instead of activesync. the connection is up but i still canot access sql server also . it gave me a diff error msg though. saying the sql server do not exist or access deny. need help figuring out wat did i do wrong. thanks Tag: Can I do this using a Pocket PC ?     - PocketPC Database Question. Hi all, I've been assigned the task of porting parts of our product over to the Symbol MC-9060 RFID Handheld unit which runs PocketPC 2003. I've been a developer for almost 10 years now, and just starting on the Pocket PC Bandwagon... This unit is pretty slick, has the traditional WIFI/ActiveSync/Bluetooth PocketPC features. Our product typically runs Client/Server using TCPIP. Unfortunately, our product uses a proprietary database (I know, I know.. ) & Due to the nature of the environment our customers work in, not all customers are capable of having wireless-networks in and around the building. Our preliminary thought is that we would allow the customer to a) use the wireless network if its available b) if no wireless network, copy portions of the database to the handheld unit. In both cases, we would like to be able to make reads/updates to our database, whether is an instant update, or its done on the handheld, then "synced" back into the database when the handheld is dropped in the cradle. Does ActiveSync have a mechanism where you can write code to dump other types of databases/files etc to the handheld unit? Is there some interface into ActiveSync I can utilize to essentially "merge" changes from the handheld unit to the PC? I would appreciate any feedback or thoughts you may have .....     - Detect "unattended" mode? I have a car navigation application that has an option to disable the OS auto-shutoff so that when it is being used for long periods without any user input, it still continues to run, of course. However, there is a problem when I "turn off" (suspend) the unit (using the power button) while the application is running. Basically, if left in this state, it appears that when the nightly "unattended" mode activates (to update alarms and such, I believe), the unit never powers back off -- because the navigation app is still running and re-disables the auto-shut-off -- even from the "unattended" state. So, in the morning, the battery is either dead or much lower. Is there any way to programmatically detect that the unit is on in "unattended" mode for the nightly stuff? When developing for PocketPC there is not an option in VS 2005 to add "Resources" in the Project Properties like there is when developing for Windows Forms.     - Program file placement when building cab Hello, I am trying to build a cab using VS2005. I need certain some dlls and other files to be placed into specific directories on the target devices. My approach has been to construct a cab project and to add the new files to the Program Files Folder. I then go to Properties for these files and under TargetName, change the file name, say from: trythis.dll to: \Program Files\MyProgramName\SupportFiles\trythis.dll. This doesn't seem to be appreciated by VS2005. How else can I direct files to be loaded into specific directories other than say Windows or Program Files? Thanks. I did everything said in the memory management section to allocate memory and tried to play the wave file. but the playfunction always return that not enough memory to complete the operation (errorcode 14 ). here is the code... first is with file mapping and the other reading the file to memory allocated with virtualalloc function. The code works perfectly in emulator but not in the device. I am using an iPAQ hx2700 with 256Mb, up to 144Mb of it is for user.     - Windows Media Encoder 9, Pocket PC content @ 640x480? Folks, A couple of months ago, I've used Windows Media Encoder 9 to produce some content for a Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 5. At the time, I was in a hurry and could only produce video at 320x240. That seemed to be the default option when I choose 'Pocket PC' as delivery platform. Hi, Is it possible at all using C# on WinCE 4.2 / .Net 2 (for now - maybe WM5.0 later) to automate the following 1) place a call to an automated response number 2) send the correct touch-tone sounds to the receiving line 3) hang up the call I've seen details in the MSDN library for making the initial call (including some WM5 only stuff), but nothing relating to parts 2 and 3. The idea here is to give someone carrying a mobile device access to multiple automated response systems via a single front end, with the software automatically calling the right system with the appropriate details.     - WM2005 and .NET Version error Hi, I had an app that was previously created for WM 2003. I recompiled this after changing the target platform to "Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK". However, when i now copy this over to a WM 2005 device and attempt to run, i am seeing the error " This application requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device".     - IImageSinkFilter and encoder format Hello, I should start by saying I am new to Windows Mobile (so please forgive my question if it is really basic). I have read the documentation on IImageSinkFilter and cannot see a funtion that allows the app to specify the encoder format (png, jpg) for the filter to use. SetEncoderParameters() allows you to set the paramters of the encoder but not the encoder format right? Is it correct to assume that the filter determines the image encoder class based on the file extension that is specified by calling SetFileName() on the filter? i.e. the app would call SetFileName() function for example (mypic.jpg) and this tells the filter that it should look for a the class that implements the jpeg encoder? The other question is sort of related to the above question. If one is to develop their own encoder for a specific format, how can they make sure that IImageSinkFilter will use the correct class (i.e the class for my custom jpeg encoder) instead of the class for the built in jpeg encoder? Is there a way to specify that precedence has to be given to my custom encoder? The same applies to the decoder as well, if I would like a custom jpeg decoder to be used instead of the built in one? I looked into AppDomain, but this is all I could come up with (as far as properties/methods available in NETcf): Dim apd As AppDomain = AppDomain.CurrentDomain ... then use apd.FriendlyName I noticed that there is a Assembly Information dialog in the VS2005 IDE (Project Properties => Application tab => Assembly Information dialog) that contains fields including Title, Description, Company, Product, Copyright etc, which is just the info I need -- seems new to VS2005, couldn't find this in VS2003. But the associated class AssemblyInfo only seems to be available with the full .NET Framework, and not NETcf. So, does anyone know if there is a way to get to this type of info that I missed, either through NETcf or through C routines I can access through P/Invoke or the registry somewhere?     - Directshow http streaming of custom types I've got some directshow filters for wm5, which were ported from the desktop for a custom file type. I've got them working well for local files. Then i went to try to set them up for http in a similar way as you do on the desktop, ie creating entries at HKCR/http/Extensions/ <.ext> = <Source filter GUID> And if i try to open a url in WMP i get, the file is corrupted or the player does not support this type of file. I notice in the CE directshow version of the docs for registring a custom file type, it mentions nothing about registering protocols as it does in the dekstop equivalent of that page.     - Trouble debugging VS2005 release builds - little or no valid variable information I'm having trouble debugging VS2005 release builds for WM 2003 2nd ed - I get little or no valid variable information (e.g., autos and locals). What does show up is usually wrong (e.g., 0's where a valid value should be). This happens no matter what frame I'm looking at, or whether the frame I'm looking at belongs to a leaf function or not. But I haven't seen any complaints of this problem in any of the newsgroups. Which leads me to ask: Am I doing something wrong? I'm using the default settings for optimization & debugging that VS2005 gives a new smart device project. (ARM compiler, of course.)     - data flow within WM5 I'm interested in better understanding how data transfer is handled in WM5 devices. Specifically, how internet and SMS data exits and enters a mobile device. I understand that the modem recieves the data and somehow it bubbles up to the applications that need it. What are the steps involved in that "bubbling up" process? I'm assuming data must make the inital jump from the modem to the application processor via the RIL, but I don't see raw data comming across anything associated with RIL.     - DLL using MFC has trouble getting loaded on startup. Hello: Sorry for the long post. We have a COM component, which uses MFC (for the UI side of things) and ATL (for the COM side of things). This is loaded/instantiated from an EXE which does not use MFC. If the device is already running (i.e booted up), and we try and run the EXE, the DLL seems to load fine. And run fine. (i.e we are able to get to the classes and interfaces that we need). However, we also have a CE Service - which does not use MFC - spawning off the above EXE on device startup. In this scenario however, when the EXE tries to load this DLL (using either LoadLibrary() or CoCreateInstance()), the device never boots up. It freezes, and the only solution to fix the problem is to hard reset the device. We found that the CoCreateInstance or the LoadLibrary() never returns. We tried creating a dummy dll using ATL (for COM), but no MFC, and that seems to be loaded fine on device startup. When MFC is added to this same DLL, the problem starts happening. i.e the DLL cannot be loaded. However, this problem vanishes on Windows Mobile 5.0 (device being a Qtek 9100); the DLL that uses MFC is loaded perfectly fine, and works like clockwork. However, we need to get this darn thing working on Pocket PC 2003. Has anyone seen this problem before or some similar problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are some data points: - The DLL uses both MFC and ATL. Statically links to both. - OS is Pocket PC 2003. - Device is O2 Xda II. - DLL is compiled with Visual Studio 2005 - EXE is compiled in EVC++4, SP2. - EXE does not use MFC Apologies if I have missed anything.     - Writing to SD card problem after waking up (WM 5.0) At first I had a problem in C# app that was writing to SD card on iPAQ rx1950. An IOException raised sometimes after iPAQ was powered off and then back on. Then I wrote a small test on C++. It just writes random data to different files on SD card in several threads. After powering down and back up the device I got (sometimes) 1617 (The device has been removed) and 1609 (Handle is in an invalid state) errors (WriteFile function returned FALSE).
