    - Access to l2cap in windows mobile 5? All, I've been searching for some info, and so far haven't found a good answer either way yet. Does anyone know if it is possbile to access l2cap functions in the Windows Mobile 5.0 bluetooth stack? We have an application ported to windows mobile that depends on l2cap functions. It works fine on devices with the broadcom/windcom stack, since they provide documented functions for access, but so far I can't find any documentation about access to the l2cap layer in Windows Mobile bluetooth.     - Setting button caption with SetDlgItemText() is not permanent? I created an MFC Pocket PC 2003 application with Visual Studio 2005. 1) I put a button on my dialog box whose caption was set to "Open" on the propertied page. 2) After the user pushes the button I issue SetDlgItemText(IDC_OpenClose,_T("Close")); 3) When the user pushes again I issue SetDlgItemText(IDC_OpenClose,_T("Open")); 4) This toggling works fine. 5) If I issue the AfxMessageBox("Display Error") (or MessageBox()) from some other event, the above mentioned button reverts back to "Open". Note that "Open" was the original caption when the DialogBox was created. I placed a breakpoint in the above mentioned button's event handler to ensure that the application did not reset the caption. It seems like the original caption is stored somewhere and repainted when the AfxMessageBox() dialog closes. How do I solve?     - VS2005: help finding ARM compiler in nmake hi, i'm compiling stlport for WinCE Mobile 5.0. stlport only comes with nmake files, not sln or vcproj files, so i'm compiling it from the command line in cygwin. after setting what seems to be the necessary enviorment varaibles, (PATH, INLCUDE, LIB, LIBPATH), to point to the VS2005 and Mobile 5.0 SDK directores, i can't seem to get this to find the ARM compiler. when i first compiled this, i didn't realize that it was using the wrong compiler, (or compiler options), and my project wouldn't link, as there is an incompatibility between the ARM objects in my project and the X86 objects in the newly compiled stlport lib. when i have a project in VS2005 set for the Mobile 5.0 configuration, and i look at the output when compiling a project, i see the following line: Compiling... Microsoft (R) C/C++ Optimizing Compiler Version 14.00.50725 for ARM Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation.     - Options for Real Time Reads/Updates from SQL Server I am new to windows mobile development and my terminology is limited so bear with me. I am trying to find a solution that will allow a windows mobile device (upon scanning a barcode) to get the current inventory from a sql server and allow updating of the inventory to the sql server. It will also need to read/update other misc fields. I will always have a wireless connection available. After reading through similar posts and white papers, I understand that these are my options: 1. Use ActiveSync (not an option because the data needs to be real time). 2. Use server side code and build an ASP.NET page for windows mobile device. Consequences would be if the network went down the mobile devices would be unusable. 3. Build an application for the mobile device and use web services to read/update the data on the sql server. I will have about thirty mobile devices connected at once, so I am lead to believe option #2 will allow for easy updates and deployment. Q1. Am I missing any options? Q2.     - Getting message class for a folder in messaging Hello, I'm working with context menus in messaging. The QueryContextMenu() is called every time the menu is invoked. If there are no messages the cRefs is 1 and rgRefs[0] is pointing to a IMAPIFolder interface. I can obtain the PR_DISPLAY_NAME with GetProps() but I cannot find out the message class for that folder. I tried both PR_MESSAGE_CLASS and PR_CONTAINER_CLASS properties on that folder but the returned ulPropTag is 0xa for both cases and the Value.lpszW contains garbage. (I can get the message class from a message that is located in that folder, but it's not always there.)     - WM_CTLCOLORSTATIC on PocketPC I keep getting a WM_CTLCOLORSTATIC message in the WindowProc() routine after I set a CStatic image using StretchBlt(). When I step over StretchBlt(), the CStatic image control looks the way it should, but then the damn WM_CTLCOLORSTATIC is called, and that erases my control. How do I stop WM_CTLCOLORSTATIC from being called? I tried to override the message in the list of available Windows Message and Event Handlers, but this is not an option.     - Static controls in Dialog MFC Application I have just recompiled an eVC++ 4.0 application using VS2005 with a Windows Mobile 5.0 PocketPC as the target device. I have noticed that whereas the dialog box displayed OK on my previous target using eVC, using this new build system there are problems with the static controls on both the target device and the emulator. Having done some experiments with a simple dialog box, it would appear that if there is more than one groupbox controls, one will either display as a static text or not be seen at all; similarly you can have problems with static text controls - one may not display at all or may be displayed as a groupbox control. This isn't the standard z-order problem; nothing is overlapped. If I change all the IDC_STATIC control values to unique values (e.g. IDC_STATIC_1, IDC_STATIC_2, etc.) the dialog then displays OK. I have a parent process in which I am creating child processes using CreateProcess and I remember the child handle in the parent. CreateProcess(programName, command, NULL, NULL, FALSE, 0, NULL, NULL, &startupInfo, &processInfo); I want to wait for child process shutdown, to make sure that all resources are completely freed by the child. So before the child process exit (ExitThread()), I am calling WaitForSingleObject(childProcessHandle, INFINITE) on the parent process. But interestingly I saw the WaitForSingleObject() hangs when a child process exits. The hanged WaitForSingleObject() is seen to be signaled I if launch a new child process from the parents (seems like a timing issue). Below is the code that I am using in parent process DWORD result=0; HANDLE handle; handle = OpenProcess(SYNCHRONIZE, FALSE, contextID); result = WaitForSingleObject(handle, INFINITE); CloseHandle(handle); The same piece of code is working finely with WM 2003 and WM 2003 SE. Please let me know the reason for this platform difference. Also please let me know if there is any other way to achieve my requirement.     - VS2005 CAB file won't overwrite I created a CAB file in VS2005 to install my application, but it won't overwrite the app on the PDA if it already exists. The only way is for me to manually erase the existing file and shortcut. I used the instructions I found here: www.devx.com/wireless/Article/31198 and it all works fine except for the reluctance to overwrite.     - Timer event problem Hi, I have notices a strange behavior using both the System.Windows.Forms.Timer and the System.Threading.Timer objects. I have WM2003SE application developed on VS2005. This application contains a timer, which is setup to expire exactly 1 mimute after it has been started (60000 ms). If I run the application with the device connected to AC power (cradled) every things works, that is I got the timer event right on time ( 1 min.). However if I run the application without the device connected to AC power (uncradled) the timer expires after 1 minute and 14 seconds (sharp every time). It doesn't matter if it is the debug or release version of the application. I am using a Qtek2020i (HTC) and have tried to run the device both in standard mode and turbo mode (processor speed is adjustable). I have not tried it on other devices, so I don't know if this issue is generic. Does anyone have a clue what that can be ?     - Ping from PocketPC Hi all. I have created a small utility for Windows Mobile 5.0 based Pocket PC. The utility allows me to ping any host by sending an ICMP packet an receiving a reply from the specified host. For some reason when the device is connected to the internet through ActiveSync a reply is not received from any host. The utility works as expected when it is connected using WLAN or UMTS/GPRS connection. I have tried using the emulator inside VisualStudio, but the same happens here. I know that the device/emulator is connected to the internet because I can access the web-page I am trying to ping through Internet Explorer. Anyone experienced the same problem? Ant suggestions?     - Wifi connection not recognised by PocketPC 2005. We have an application that we developed initially for Pocket PC 2002 (Win Mobile 4.2). This application establishes an 802.11 association when the device is in range of "special" access points. "Special" basically means an AP is in a database of known APs that provide the services the consumer is authorized to use. This is for a VoIP application. This application works well on PPC 2002 and has for over 2 years over multiple devices in multiple countries. After upgrading the app to support some of the nifty new features in Win Mobile 5 (Pocket PC 2005), the application is still able to establish a perfectly valid 802.11 association (valid IP address included) but when the VoIP part of the application goes to make a connection the device thinks that there is no available IP connection and attempts to establish a GPRS connection. If the phone part of the device is placed into flight mode, ie turning off the GSM radio, the device then realizes there's an 802.11 connection and traffic is routed over it. It is not feasible or acceptable for my application to do this in a production environment (turn the phone off). In our application, the 802.11 association is created with NDIS 5.1 OIDs though NDISUIO. WZC is disabled. With WZC enabled it is not possible to control the 802.11 device, though NDISUIO or other such NDIS interfaces. Our application cannot use Connection Manager because a part of the necessary association process is to authenticate the access point partly though its mac address and then a dynamic WEP key must be used that is calculated based on various factors all of which are irrelevant to this discussion not to mention extreeeeemy proprietary. Again, the association to the AP is perfectly valid and it works perfectly when the GSM radio is disabled, I don't need any help on associating with an AP. Since 802.11 associations created with WZC work fine, ie the device doesn't think it needs to create a GPRS connection, I'm assuming there's some IOCTL call that tells the system there's an 802.11 connection (or some similar methods) that WZC uses. I posted this on the Smartphone Developer's forum with no responses and doing a search on both forums showed that mine was the only post on this problem. I know that I can't be the only one who has run upon this. I am trying to create a Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC Smartphone application for the Palm Treo 700w and HP Smartphones with a 240x240 resolution. I am trying to access some information in the Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Status namespace and when I get to the line of code where the class is called, I get the following exception: File or assembly name 'Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Utilities, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35', or one of its dependencies, was not found. I have the exact same code running on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone SDK and there are no exceptions thrown when this class is called. This exception is being thrown from the IDE during debug. If I comment out the lines that reference this class, the app runs fine. The problem is - there is no Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Utilities assembly to be found anywhere in the SDK. In my researh, I have come to the conclusion that this namespace has something to do with the SDK 2003, but it is no longer used in the WM 5 SDK, so I can't figure out why this is crashing. I am past deadline on getting this app out and this is the only thing that is stopping me from rolling out the app. I did a Google search on this and it came up with one hit to a blog entry which didn't provide a solution. I also did a search on MSDN and came up empty and Yahoo came up with several hits, but most were all pointing to the same one I found on Google. The problem was discussed on a blog, but there was never an answer or solution posted. Has anyone come across this exception before and if so, what did you do to correct the problem?
