    - Quick TextBox Question (Easy one... I hope!) Hi All, In my application, I have a textbox control inside a user control that has Multiline and AcceptsReturn properties defined as true. I have code that will add characters to the textbox. When I add "\r\n" for a carriage return, the textbox does not adjust to show the new line. The cursor is gone, but it always shows line 1.     - Certain CABs hang on install Hello, I am creating an automatic installer for CAB files to be used on several different types of handheld devices. The program will be used to update an existing program all from the handheld with no desktop interaction. In particular I'm having trouble with: sqlce.ppc3.arm.CAB netcf.hhp.wce4.armv4_2.04.CAB After running through the whole install, these CABs will hang when the installer reaches "Writing information for "Remove Programs"....".     - WM5 device vs. emulator I've been writing a new version of an app with VS2005 (before it was eVB), and I've specifically tested on 240x320 and VGA emulators, with success on both screen sizes. Problem is, as soon as I deploy the application to the device (in this case a Dell x51v with 240x320 screen) the display is not correct. For example I draw two rectangles which have a top line 2/3 down the screen, a bottom line 50 pixels below, are 50 pixels wide and flushed to left and right of the screen. I then create a HBRUSH, select it, then fill the rectangle. I've made sure I use the recommended functions to get the VERTRES and HORZRES figures so I can work out width and height, and use SCALEX and SCALEY for the other sizes. On the emulator, the screen draws correctly with a green box in the bottom left, and a blue box in bottom right. It's fine in both portrait resolutions. On the device, I never see the boxes, and I have no clue why. I am sure it's something I am doing (or not doing) and I'd be grateful for any ideas on where to look. Given the quality of display on many commercial applications, mine is very simple by comparison and I'm sure it's not that I'm trying to achieve something that is impossible. TIA, Mike.     - HTML Control and Browse Example (Not working with Unicode) Hi, I am adapting the Browse example of the Windows Mobile 5 SDK for use in my program (sample\cpp\win32\browse), and have a problem with the HTML Control. In the example, when a link is clicked, this generates an NM_HOTSPOT notification message, which is processed to get the address of the link. However, the NM_HOTSPOT is passed the link reference as an ASCII and not a UNICODE string, so that mbstowcs must be used to convert the string to UNICODE. I need to be able get a UNICODE string of the link address straight away, as if the link has non-Roman characters (such as Japanese etc.) they do not work in the example. It would appear that the NM_HOTSPOT is passed an NM_HTMLVIEWA and not a NM_HTMLVIEWW structure. Is there any way that I can acheive this?     - Help: "error RC1015: cannot open include file.." when compiling resource hi, i'm using vc2005, along with the mobile 5.0 sdk to compile an app for wince using wxWidgets. i'm getting this error when compiling my resource file when i add a line to include a file from the widgets directory. in my source code, there are also includes from this directory, which the compiler finds with no problem, which i have proved by taking that directory out of the "additional include directories", and getting errors of the files not found. the file i'm including is actually in a subdirectory of the directory included in the "additional..." line, but so are other files included in the source. (just realized that and thought i should mention that). now i have a number of sample widget apps that use this same include in their resource files, and they compile ok. i have spent quite a long time now trying to figure out the difference in the project settings, and just can't see anything different that would cause this. any thoughts on this? thanks, mickm Tag: pim.vol format? Web based using ASP.NET so it runs via the internet. a. Depends upon pocket pc internet speed and geographical location. How fast would the application be? b. The updates to the main database would happen in real time. 2. Local application a. No dependency on geographical location or internet availability b. Need to merge the data at the end of the day with the master database. c. Will most probably run a lot faster.     - emulator cannot launch my app hi, i know this is simple problem for some of you but i really need your help. when i start debugging my vs2003 pocketpc app, it just launch the emulator, copy the necessary files then after the message from vs2003 output window "Launching Application" it just stops there forever.     - command shell in wm5 - windows ce 5.0 I am able to open a shell comman window by setting the registry settings HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Console\OutputTo to 0. but when I run a console application, like netstat, or ipconfig, the output of those launched commands go to a new window. Redirection doesn't work either. Does anyone know how to get the output of programs using stdout launched within a command shell window on wm5 to be outputted to the current window? or failing that, how can i get the redirection option to be recogonized by the new program?     - CAB uninstaller question: Delay file removal until reboot. Hello: Environment: Cab wizard, Pocket Pc or SmartPhone, EVC++ 4 We have developed a plugin architecture driven system, and are having trouble with the uninstallation of one of the plugins. The main problem stems from the fact that the CAB uninstaller tries to remove a file that has been recently unloaded (and COM holds on to the DLL for about 10 minutes), and the uninstall fails because COM still has not relinquished the file. We need some way (in the INF file or otherwise) to "mark" this file so that the CAB uninstaller waits for a device reboot to delete the file. Is this even possible? Thanks for any help. Cheers! I am writing a code that is supposed to check if the wireless is enabled or not and then according to the given status it turns it On or Off. I am using the fuction \Windows\WirelessOnOff.exe this fuction reservers the current state, i.e if it is enabled it disable it and vice versa. However I cannot tell if it was orginally disabled or enabled to decide whether to call this fuction or not.     - Help Needed; PDA 2003 OS ; issues with Certificates We are facing some issues in the client place, which needs to be resolved ASAP. Below is the description of the problem., Appreciate all help extended. Working on a Pocket PC 2003 application. The problem that we are encountering is that,when we install the application, the root certificates on the PDA are getting deleted (PDA settings -> Certificates). In the application, we are using an encrypted database(.sdf file),the application is not working,instead the database is getting deleted(seems like the OS is not recognizing the database). The application installation package consists of : The application,adoce 3.1 and ssce 2.0. But When I uninstall the application,these root certificates are re-appearing on the PDA. Hi all, I'm writing an installation program which will silently install a cab while displaying a customized bitmap, so I'll suppress wceload's UI. But I want to give the user a chance to choose where to install and use that directory as the wceload's dest directory, is it possible? I've googled and found a method that to create a value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Application Installer\Install with the name is the path to the cab file and the value is the dest directory, but it didn't seem to work on my WM5.0 pda.     - Identifying WAP Push SMS Hello, We're trying to test WAP Push provisioning over-the-air (OTA) via SMS by using two Windows Mobile devices - one as a sender, the other as a receiver. When the receiving device receives the provisioning message (the message just adds a new browser Favorite, and the message is unsigned), the following "Confirmation" prompt appears: "From unidentified sender: This changes device settings. Caution: unauthenticated message. Accept?" When hitting 'Yes', the Browser Favourite is created properly. Question 1: what does 'unidentified sender' mean? When sending a regular text SMS message, the receiving phone can decipher the sender's phone number, e.g. +61410022305. When receiving a WAP Push message, shouldn't the receiver know the message comes from a particular phone number? Or does 'unidentified sender' means something else. To send the provisioning message, we're using a modified version of the WDP_SMS sample code to send the message (the original code can be found in the 'Windows CE' SDK, e.g. in 'C:\Program Files\Windows CE Tools\wce500\Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone SDK\Samples\CPP\Win32\Cellcore\Wdp_sms') from the sending Windows Mobile device. Now, we've set up the WAP_ADDRESS's for the sender's number, and the receiver's number. Question 2: At present, the receiving device can only receive the provisioning message when the device is completely unlocked (we used 'unlock.xml' as attached here). We're trying to set up a Trusted Provisioning Server (TPS) and a Push Proxy Gateway (PPG) for the receiving device to accept messages from the sending device, as identified by a phone number. We tried doing this via 'WapTrustedGateway.xml' (as attached). However, the receiving device simply drops the incoming message without any prompt or messages. How do we set up the receiving device to only accept unsigned messages coming from the sending device by recognising the sender's phone number? Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks!     - CloseHandle (portHandle) doesn't release object in Mobile 5 Hi everybody, I have a problem with Mobile 5 device Pocket LOOX of Fujitsu/Siemens. It has internal GPS receiver and (may be) GPS Intermediate driver In MSDN documentation it is written that it can work fine with CreateFile,ReadFile and CloseHandle. They also say that in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver we can find Multiplexer driver, that says what port name can be used for CreateFile in Raw interface. I didn't find this registry key in this LOOX device. My app works fine on other devices, but here it doesn't allow to connect to the same port next time after i close it (CloseHandle). The handler is created by Create File for COM8: and Baudrate 9600. When i open another port (say COM1:) and close it, it allows to open COM8: , but fails to close Looks like openning another port releases object.     - HOW to handle hot key behaves while FULL SCREEN without menu bar I found that if our application running without menu, the VK_TBACK and VK_TVOLUMEUP disabled, instead you will receive WM_KEYDOWN and WM_KEYDOWN messages. so the default behaves of these hot key are disabled.     - Full screen application Hi all, i have developed an application for ppc 2003 using c# and it runs full screen (ie no start menu or toolbars visible). if i leave the terminal (a symbol 8800) in the cradle overnight then all is fine. My problem is that if the device is not cradled, when it is powered up the next morning the application has been minimised and the normal ppc desktop is visible which kind of defeats what i was trying to do.     - PDA settings -> Certificates We are facing some issues in the client place, which needs to be resolved ASAP. Below is the description of the problem., Appreciate all help extended. Working on a Pocket PC 2003 application. The problem that we are encountering is that,when we install the application, the root certificates on the PDA are getting deleted (PDA settings -> Certificates). In the application, we are using an encrypted database(.sdf file),the application is not working,instead the database is getting deleted(seems like the OS is not recognizing the database). The application installation package consists of : The application,adoce 3.1 and ssce 2.0. But When I uninstall the application,these root certificates are re-appearing on the PDA. is this publiclly documented anywhere? I'd like to do some desktop
programming to swizzle an existing or create a new pim.vol as a
back-door to sync desktop PIM data without going through desktop
outlook.

The best way is to use POOM on the device and write your own app to
interface with this data that you can use to talk over your activesync
connection to a desktop component. The underlying format is EDB for the
Windows Mobile 5.0 pim database, the APIs for which are documented in the
WM5.0 SDK, but you'll find it much easier to use POOM to do the hard work
for you.
