    - Help with linking a Non MFC library into an MFC project I've built a static (non DLL) data access library to share between a PPC project and a Smartphone project. As Smartphone doesn't support MFC (lesson learnt the hard way) I've rejigged my data store library to use STL. ie Lots of changing CPtrList to list<void *> etc. Now the library links in really well with the Smartphone IMailRuleClient project and runs perfectly.     - Pocket PC NetworkStream.BeginRead block Hi all, I am trying to create CLient-Server based application. Talking of just Client application, I want to read data from the server application. For that I created a socket and a new thread that reads all the time from the server. However, the problem is when I close the socket (from client end), my data reader thread (created above) does not close down. In turn it keeps waiting for some message. After bit of struggle I noted that somehow BeginRead calls back the method after 1 minute. At that time my piece of code exits the thread.     - Achieving the functionality of standard control panel applets? Possible? I now understand how to create a Control Panel Applet thanks to this wonderful article: http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/controlpanelapplet.html But, I'm wondering how one can get the exact feel of a standard control panel applet (like About, or Audio, or Backlight, etc.). Let me further explain what I mean. Try this (with let's say the standard control panel applet "Clock"): 1. Start->Settings->System Tab->Clock 2. Tap Alarms Tab 3. Start->Today --- it takes you back to the Today screen 4. Start->Settings->System Tab->Clock --- It was brought up the way I last left this dialog (the Alarms tab has focus) Or to further show my point, for step 2 do this: a. Change the date (or time) b. Click the ok button (Save changes to clock settings? MsgBox appears) (continue on normally - step 3, step 4 - from above) Again, it was brought up the way I last left this dialog - with the MsgBox displayed - a MsgBox with the "Settings" title I may add (get to this later). Things to note about these "standard applets" are: 1. When the dialog appears, it still says "Settings" in the title bar. 2. You can go to the Today screen 3. There's only ever one dialog (or sheet/page). If you leave the dialog before pressing ok btn (through the Start Menu), the dialog is left in it's current state, but no longer visible until you go back to the same applet and click it again. Here's what happens for me when I create a Control Panel Applet (I'll just use a normal dialog right now, as opposed to sheet/page): 1. Dialog appears and the "Settings" title bar is changed to the caption of my dialog. 2. Try to go to Today screen, and it won't let me. 3. While my dialog is up (haven't pressed ok yet), if I go to "Start->Settings" (1st dialog now behind settings window) and tap my applet again - a 2nd dialog appears. I'll now have two different dialogs I'll have to "ok" (or 3, or 4, or 5, depending on how many times I do this) I did discover this link: http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/today_friendly_dialogs.html And I set the value to overlapped. And it did allow me to go to the Today screen. And it seems that only 1 dialog is being displayed (no matter how many times I start the dialog, don't press ok, then go to settings, repeat) But ... 1. The title still gets changed from Settings to the Caption on the dialog 2. When I go back to settings to click the applet, the dialog isn't left off where it was before I lost focus (remember, I'm going to Start->Settings instead of pressing ok on the dialog) For #1, I don't think it is as simple as the programmer chaning the caption on their dialog to "Settings" (maybe it is). I think that if it's properly coded to act exactly like a standard control panel applet, what happens is that the title doesn't change because the dialog properly becomes some type of child to the control panel settings window. Or something like that. And that link above may have at least got me to the point that I can get to the Today screen when using a dialog .. but what about sheet/page? I can't seem to find a way to get this to work with sheet/page. The Sheet class doesn't have a resource where I'm changing it to overlapped. And I did try overriding the PreCreateWindow (think that's the name) virtual function and setting cs.style to WS_OVERLAPPED. Didn't work. I tried setting the property page dialogs to overlapped - but that didn't work either. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get this to work with Sheet/Page! How does one duplicate the standard control panel applets? What are they doing that I'm not? Is it even possible to achieve that standard? Thanks!     - NDISUIO support on Pocket PC Can the NDISUIO protocol driver included in MS CE .NET 4.2 be used by third party applications as is to manage WiFi? My understanding is that for XP, Microsoft discourages third parties from using the NDISUIO protocol driver but it looks to me like Microsoft supports third parties using the NDISUIO protocol driver included in MS CE .NET 4.2.     - evb connection failed; Com1 seems involved experimenting with evb 3 ; developing an app reading a serial port. Getting error "connection failed" while evb is trying to load the Emulator (!?); this started to happen after I set up the platform manager to use Com1 and it seems (2 experiments so far) when I have a device (digital caliper) connected to the port.     - where is fsmain.lib ? Hi, I am new to developing for Windows CE 4.2. I want to use file functions such as MoveFile, CopyFile etc. in my application. The eVC 4.2 help informs me that I need to link with coredll.lib and fsmain.lib. The first one, coredll.lib I found, but where is fsmain.lib ? I searched my entire disk: no fsmain.lib or fsmain.dll found. I am thinking that maybe I haven't downloaded enough... ? I downloaded eVC 4.2, service pack 4, standard sdk 420, pocket pc 2003 SDK, and emulator images (wwe). What else do I need to get fsmain.lib & dll ?     - newbie Ok, I am trying to program for Windows Mobile 2003, 2nd edition, I have read that Embedded Visual C++ will work. However, I only know C++, and I have not found any resources that really help on Embedded Visual C++. I do know somewhat Visual Basic 6.0, is there anyway I can use that to write a fairly basic program on Windows Mobile, without having to buy the .net framework. Essentially I need a language that is close to C++ or Visual Basic that I can pick up rather fast, and design a program that is basically a lot of number crunching. My program which is written in VB .NET CF needs to know if the electricity connector of the PocketPC is plugged off.     - Hide the menubar and the SIP button Hi, I'm developing a Dialog based application. I have seen SHFullscreen and SHInitDialog methods for achieve it and it works, but I must to do it in each "OnInitDialog" and in each "W_ACTIVATE" message of each Dialog Window to hide the menubar and the SIP button (and it makes the app more slowly, all the time trying to show the menubar and then I hide it) .     - Detect the extra 512MB Sorry, if this is not the right group for my question and please point me to the right one. :) I've got an iPaq 3765 with Compaq's single slot expansion slot. From the System's Setting, the iPaq knows the expansion pack is there and using the battery from the expansion pack. However, it doesn't regonize the 512MB CF which is connected to the CardBus Adapter slided into the expansion slot. My Windows 2000 has no problem plug-and-play with the 512MB CF on a CardBus Adapter. Do I need to have a driver install for the iPAQ? If so, where to download the driver? Thanks.     - Horizontal Scrolling with a CListCtrl I have a CListCtrl, which has one column that holds strings. The list auto-vertically scrolls just fine but when strings are longer then the viewable area it adds ellipses on and doesn't auto scroll horizontally. I want it to instead scroll horizontally so long strings can be read. I have 'no column header' set to true because I don't want it showing.     - Installer Woes I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. I have created a cab file that installs my program to \Program Files\Company\Product by default. If I run the cab file directly on my device, it works perfectly. My problem is with my desktop installer. When it installs the program to my device, the program is installed to \Program Files\Product (note the lack of the Company directory). This strikes me as odd as the CAB file is the exact same file.     - DoModal to call other Dialog Hi, I use DoModal() to open a Dialog in a Dialog-Based project. In the main OnInitDialog I hide the SIP button, and when I use DoModal() to open a second Dialog, the SIP continues hide, but when I close the second Dialog, the SIP button and the bar appears in the Main Dialog.     - Advice for WebService Data Downloading Hi, I am currently developing an application for a handheld (ipaq 5455) that implements SQL CE 2.0 with Framework 1.1. The application will call a webservice to retrieve its data and create the necessary datasets. Once the data is downloaded, it will save it into the local database. The problem is performance. Could you recommend a good way of efficiently sending data to the handheld? Right now I am sending the entire dataset down and then dropping the data on the handheld. Itâ??s quite expensive for large tables, and I am sure there is a better way. Here are some considerations towards the issue: ================================ - The server will use MSDE as a database because of the customer's cost requirements. - Some of the tables will contain more than 1200 rows. - The data communication with the webservice is on a separate worker thread. The first one is ModemDial and the second one is ModemWatch. When I use TAPI for make a voice call the ModemWatch detect incoming call but when I switch to data call, the ModemWatch couldn't detect an incoming call.     - PTvncHI for VGA released Hi all, PTvncHI, our PPC VNC client specifically designed for VGA PPC's is now available from Handango and will shortly be available from PocketGear. PTvncHI is compatible with WCE 2003 and 2003SE devices though it was specifically designed with VGA (480*640) devices in mind. If you have a WCE2003 QVGA device (240*320) then PTvncGPRS is a better choice. For those of you who don't know, VNC software allows you to remotely view (and control) one device from another, in particular PTvncHI (and our older software PTvncGPRS and PTvncS) allow you to view (and control) a PC from your PPC (or Smartphone - PTvncS). You can connect to your PC via WiFi, GPRS or via Bluetooth(Activesync) or straightforward USB(Activesync). PTvncHI (PTvncGPRS and PTvncS) will all connect to most PC VNC servers eg. PTeSVNC(supplied), UltraVNC, TightVNC and RealVNC. With VNC servers that have server-scaling (eSVNC, PTeSVNC and UltraVNC) you can view screens up to 1280*1024 (or 1024*1280) without server-scaling and screens of any size with server-scaling (eg. a 1600*1200 PC screen at transfer size 800*600), with VNC servers that do not have server-scaling (RealVNC, TightVNC) the max PC screen size you can view is 1280*1024 (or 1024*1280). With a compatible VNC server PTvncHI (etc.) (optionally on the server) allows file transfer either way. PTvncHI has 3 viewing modes - full-screen, no-zoom and zoom. Full-screen is exactly what it says, your entire PC screen is resampled to 640*480 (or 320*240 for non-VGA) so you can see the whole thing on your PPC. No-zoom mode displays the pixels as transferred so you get to see all or a portion of your server screen depending on the server resolution and server-scaling options. Zoom mode either zooms into no-zoom mode *2 or zooms out *2 depending on the size of the transferred screen - for larger transfer sizes (where only a small area is visible in no-zoom mode) zoom mode zooms out instead of in. In PTvncHI (only) in no-zoom or zoom modes if less than 80% of the height/width of your server screen is visible then a small window will appear in the bottom-right corner of your PPC screen giving a view of the entire server-screen. You can tap on this window to move quickly to any location on the server screen and you can tap/hold/drag the small window around the PPC screen - eg. if you need to see the bottom-right corner of the server screen.     - Moving SQLCE from PPC2002 to PPC2003 We have a VB.NET application running on PPC2002 devices with a SQLCE database. The customer sets up any new devices by running the CF SP2 installer over activesync, and then copying over and clicking the SQLCE cab files (sqlce.dev.ppc3.arm.CAB and sqlce.ppc3.arm.CAB) However, the latest devices the customer has bought are PPC2003 devices, and when they attempt to install the above SQL files, they get a message to say they are incompatible with the system. Is is just a case of installing different SQL Files, or is there more to it? I have found a suggestion on another forum that the files; sqlce.dev.wce4.armv4.CAB and sqlce.wce4.armv4.CAB should be used, but the fact they have WCE rather than PPC in the filename makes me think they're for the CE.NET environment, rather than PPC. I tested, but after I deployed to my Pocket PC, it tells me the application requires a newer version of Microsoft .Net Compact Framework. Third: I am a reasonably skilled programmer, having developed some Win32 commercial app's using Borland C++ Builder 5 and embedded systems on custom hardware (mainly Motorola 8 and 32 bit processors). In addition, beginning Builder 5, I studied one of the "bibles", i.e. "Programming Windows" by Charles Petzold.     - Fatal Application Exception I have been developing an application in Windows CE.Net using the .Net Compact Framework and C#. Data is saved to a local Sql Server CE database and then transferred wirelessly to a central server. The device has to open a connection every 5 minutes, transfer all records and then disconnect. I have been running tests to verify the capacity of the database, if, for example, the network goes down and transfers cannot be made. I have disabled the device from connecting to the network (although it will still try every 5 minutes) and have built the number of records up to about 10,000 records. At this point, a Fatal Application Error message is raised, saying that the application has performed an illegal operation and giving the Exception as 0Xc00000fd. Doing a quick search on Googal shows this to be a stack overflow error. I have not been to catch the error during a debug session. There seems to be no specific point at which this error occurs. Thinking that the error was down to lack of memory, I have adjusted the breakdown of RAM between the Object Store and program memory, giving the program memory an extra 10mb to play with. This has had no effect and the application still crashes, before the extra memory is anywhere near used up. Is this error down to memory or something else? Any help would be most appreciated.     - Disabling screen tap sounds How can I disable screen tap sounds in Windows Mobile 2003 (PocketPC)? The Sound and Notification applet in Control Panel changes the value of HKCU/ControlPanel/Volume/Screen to 0 (screen taps disabled, soft radio button highlighted) or 65536 (screen taps disabled, Loud radio button highlighted). However - when I change these manually I need to reboot the device (remove battery) in order for the change to take effect. can anyone explain me the logic of the option "My network card connects
to:".

I have a MDA II (Ver. 1.60) with Windows Mobile 2003. I changed the option
"My network card connects to:" from "Work" to "The Internet" and closed the
Window. When I reopen the networkcard-window to verify the option I'm very
surprised because the option is set to "Work".
I tried it again, but I wasn't able to change the option to "The Internet".

Is this a bug or a feature ?
