    - Exchanging data PocketPC<-> PC without need for replication I am developing an application for Pocket PC which is a sort of order entry. On the pocket pc you enter which items has been taken out from inventory and which is later processed in the main (stationary) windows application. The main windows application don't use SQL server (it might for some clients though). I really don't need any replication of the orders entered on the Pocket PC with the orders in the Windows application, only need to read the data entered on the PocketPC and process the data in the windows application. There are also some data that need to be transfered from the main database to the Pocket PC which is used for lookup (products table etc) which are not updated in the PPC application. I also woulk like to keep the "stationary" side as simpel as possible (ie not using Web services and/or a SQL server database on the stationary side). On my PPC application I use a SQL Mobile dtaabase to store my data. What is the easist solution for exhanging data? One idea I have is to simple have an option in my PPC application for transfer data which will: 1) Export orders entered on PPC to an ASCII file (CSV, XML whatever) 2) Delete orders after export file has been created/transferred 3) Import lookup tables to PPC database Any better solution? I don't have much experience of PPC devices (but have been workign with other handhelds like the PSion Workabout pre-Windows CE) so I am not sure which options there are.     - DirectShow interface availability So I was playing around and querying the various filters available from direct show but noticed that from SmartPhone to SmartPhone some of them work while others do not. For example, I can acquire my capture filter like this: g_pVideoCaptureFilter.CoCreateInstance(CLSID_VideoCapture); And I can query and acquire other interfaces like the CameraControl, VideoProcAmp and VideoControl interfaces like this: hResult = g_pVideoCaptureFilter.QueryInterface(&g_pCameraControl); hResult = g_pVideoCaptureFilter.QueryInterface(&g_pVideoProcAmp); hResult = g_pVideoCaptureFilter.QueryInterface(&g_pVideoControl); Which all return S_OK as the return value. But when I go to actually use them... the return values are either S_OK but nothing happens or it doesn't even work at all.     - CBitmap GetObject help It has taken me a little time, but I have narrowed my problem down to CBitmap::GetObject. My application loads many images. The frequently used ones have been converted to bitmaps and are loaded as resources, but the rest are still in JPEG format on the device's Compact Flash storage card. To load a JPEG, I use SHLoadImageFile. To load a resource bitmap, I use LoadBitmap (see code below). The problem comes when I attempt to call GetObject on a jpeg file. The image displays correctly, but parts of my program get overwritten whenever it happens. (Currently, CStringList files is being overwritten, but if the declaration order gets changed around somewhat, it will go to something else.) Could someone look at my use of GetObject and tell me what I am doing wrong?     - DM_GETDEFID message doesn't work eVC++ MFC I am trying to handle the DM_GETDEFID message to handle a default button. The default button was created programmatically using Create. When I set the style to BS_DEFPUSHBUTTON, and hit the enter key, the button doesn't press but an OnOK message fires instead. In Windows you can use the DM_GETDEFID message and return the id of the default button. For some reason in PocketPC, this message never fires and the OnOK always fires instead when the enter key is pressed. Is there a way around this? I am using eVC++ and MFC.     - popup menu not closing Hi, I have created a dialog based application for window mobile 5.0 using VS 2005. In the dialog iam showing a popup menu. In the oncontextmenu method I have written as below, CMenu* pSubMenu; pSubMenu = m_mnuPopup.GetSubMenu(0); pSubMenu->TrackPopupMenuEx(TPM_RETURNCMD,point.x, point.y, this,NULL); It shows a popup menu correctly. But, when i am not selecting any menu item in the menu and click somewhere in the dialog, the popup menu should actualy close. But it is not closing.     - Autoupdate/Liveupdate I'm currently writing a PocketPC application with C# and SQL Compact 2005 that requires autoupdate/liveupdate functionality. My thinking right now is that I would like the app to be updated when the user cradles their PocketPC. Somehow ActiveSync would sync up the application and the database via updates downloaded from our servers (running SQL Server 2005 + WinServer 2003) to the users host PC. Unfortunately I've never done anything like this before and am not really sure where to start. I would imagine I would need some sort of WinXP app to facilitate this update via ActiveSync?     - Unable to create new subscription Hi, all, I'm using SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and Pocket PC Phone emulator, anonymous access. My program has been working (replicating/synchronizing) perfectly one day and next day would just crash. I've been at it for this past two months and the same thing happens: it will work just fine...next day it gives me the "request to IIS" error. I've given Firewall exceptions to the SQL Server, SQL Server Agent and browser instances. I've configured the SQL Server Surface Area. Done the read/write permissions for IUSR_* account for the virtual web folder and snapshot folders. What else haven't I done? Ah, yes... haven't slept at all! Right now, everything I do gives me this error: "A request to send data to computer running IIS has failed..." which means I can't do anything and I need to make a presentation of this thing sometime next week. (And, oh, yes..it was working perfectly last night when I turned off my computer!) Should I just tell clients not to use Pocket PCs for field work to enter data? I know I'd get this done sometime today... and I know it's going to randomly crash on me again. And I know I won't be able to sleep again tonight...Sigh.     - Beginning PocketPC Database Development Hi, I'm looking for resources to get me started developing a database app for the Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5.0) I would be developing using the CF 2.0, probably utilising a SQL Server DB as the backend. But that's about as far as I've got! Before being hit with a myriad of options, for example: SQL Server CE on the Pocket PC - how does this sync with the main SQL Server DB running on the server? Can I use SQL Express? What are the data access components available to me? Is ADO still a valid technology in this environment? What about ActiveSync?     - SHLoadImageFile problems. Alternative? I have a routine that loads images onto the screen of my Pocket PC. Some files have been converted to bitmaps so that they could be embedded into the resource file, but most of these are JPEG files that reside on the disk in a special folder. For the embedded bitmaps, I use LoadBitmap with the MAKEINTRESOURCE macro. For JPEG files on disk, SHLoadImageFile loads images from paths stored in a CStringList. After images are loaded, StretchBlt is used to paint the images to the screen. Both techniques succeed and produce no errors; however, I am finding that calls to SHLoadImageFile consistently destroys other components. First, I had a CRect object that stored the GetWindowRect results from the same procedure that I called SHLoadImageFile. The dimensions of CRect went from defined endpoints to random numbers after the call to SHLoadImageFile. I solved this problem by moving my CRect object outside of my image loading class and passing the value into it. Now, after I call the method that includes the SHLoadImageFile, the files in the CStringList are being whipped out - and the CStringList is not even in the same class as the SHLoadImageFile routine.     - More Bluetooth anomalies I wonder if any of you experienced BT guys can shed any light on this ... I have given up on the Vodafone v1640 because it doesn't actually work, as I suspected. The BT problems are unique to that machine. I have told them but they are not listening. I have given up on Symbian because the development system doesn't actually work. I have told them but they are not listening. I have laid my hands on a MS stack BT device (a datalogic Jet) which DOES work, however it's configuration utility for BT is strange, even though it's CE5. There doesn't seem to be any way it will let you publish the serial over BT service, even though it works fine with incoming. It appears to use COM5 for both incoming and outgoing serial comms. I got it working with the CameraCaptureDialog but this interface is too complicated for the users of the application.     - MSMQ - post a message from WM5 to PC over WiFi Hi, i tried to send a message from Windows Mobile 5 emulator to my Windows XP Pro machine. But it doesn't work. "The queue does not exist or you do not have sufficient permissions to perform the operation." I can use a local queue on my machine to post a message and pull the same message back out of the local queue. I can do that on emulator to.     - Mobile SetUP Does anybody know how to setup a single-Server environment for developing PocketPC using emulator device? I've followed steps in Sql Mobile Book Online and MSDN articles to no avail. I'm trying to use NT Authentication; no login/password; I'm only using my laptop for the entire development so I can demonstrate the result to "higher-ups" before investing in hardware...     - Disable TaskBar icons Hello, I am developing a program wich will limit user access to pocket pc. This program will run in kiosk mode and will launch other applications (word, calc etc ...). The problème is : When word or calc or other is launched, the taskbar is visible and the user can access to all the configuration of the Pocket PC. I have found a solution with API EnableWindow to disable the TaskBar. But with it, the close button is disable, and the user can't close word or calc ...     - form does not display correctly Hi all, I have an application that was originally developed to run under windows mobile 3.0, and later was upgraded to run under the same environment but using the .net cf 2.0. I was able to test the app, and verified that ran well under the emulator environment, and later in my Pocket PC. However, in one occassion I noticed that in one instance, the application did not display the full form, in my Pocket PC, I re-installed, and sof-reseted the device, and that seemed to take care of the problem. Now, there is a customer that describes the same situation, and the problem could not be solved doing the same thing that I did. This is what He describes "My "full VGA" pocketPC displays program main window in a top-left quarter of its display, with overlapping letters, immpossible to read. tab labels lies in the middle of display but seems to be VGA wide. The menu is at the bottom of the screen in VGA size. My HW: Dell Axim x51v; VGA display 480 x 640, ROM ver.     - SqlServerCe not automatically installed Hi. I have just started to work with a new Dell Axim 51v. I use VS2005 to build a C# managed app that accesses a SqlCe database. This app was essentially taken unchanged over from a Symbol PPT8800 device developed with VS2003. It seems that SqlServerCe and the QueryAnalyzer program are not installed automatically on the Axim when I deploy my program. This was done when I worked with the PPT8800 and VS2003. Do I have to install the SqlServerCe and the QueryAnalyzer manually? The .NET Compact Framework must be present on the Axim, because I have successfully deployed and run anothher program, that does not access SqlCe data. There are directions on how to install SqlServerCe and the QueryAnalyzer on a device on SQLServerCe Books Online. One question there: My device has Windows mobile 5.0 and Intel PXA270 processor.
