    - Trapping Caller ID I have an application, which has it's own (indexed) database of contacts. I would like to set it up that when there is an incoming call, it will look up the caller's number, and update the caller id info, so that the Phone program will show the user's name, in the incoming call window. I tried using the new State and Notification Broker, but though I was able to update the user's name in the registry, it does not help for the Phone program, seemingly because it's too late, or that the phone program ignores the registry change. Therefore, I imagine, the only possible way would be to use TAPI to intercept the call and updating the info. I am just wondering if anyone out there has tried this, or has any information or suggestions about setting this up. If you know of any code samples, that would even be better. However, the record is never found, so I have multiple records with the same key data.     - Data in IMediaSample half res of what it should be... Please someone help me with this one. I'm running DirectShow on Windows Mobile 2005. While my code runs fine on many devices, I just tried it on the HTC Mteor which we got today. Enumerating the video modes lists two modes available: 320x240 YUV12 15fps and 160x120 YUV12 15fps. While the 160x120 mode works as expected, I have problems with the 320x240 mode, because the image in there is 160x120 too. IMediaSample::GetSize() returns 115200 (which corresponds to 320x240y12bits), but the image in the pixel buffer is only 160x120 pixels large (the rest of the buffer is just unused...)! I can find third party tools for this (paxScript.NET,..) but this script must also work in my win32 application.     - ActiveSync My Application to Pocket Outlook - Help Appreciated Hi all, Can someone point me in the right direction, give me good advise on how to override the default settings and have my application do the synchronizing with Pocket Outlook (tasks, appointments, contacts and mail) instead of Outlook? I'm in the managed world, but I've worked with Interop before and I've looked at the documentation on MS's site and all I see is one about creating a provider but not how to override the default stuff that is there. Also, what's different/where can I get the SDK for, the new Sync Center in Vista for synchronizing with PocketPC devices instead of ActiveSync?     - Progressive media playback (over HTTP) on wm5 Hi all, I am trying to set up a streaming server to serve out videos to my Pocket PC device over WLAN. I need the streaming transport to be HTTP. I have the option of using ffmpeg to encode videos to the desired streaming format. I want to embed a video player control which can receive this stream and playback in my application. I've been able to embed windows media player for mobile 10 in my app but it supports only wma for audio which I cant output using ffmpeg. When I try to use mp3 for the audio and pack it along with wmv1, msmpeg4v2 or mpeg4 into an asf/avi container, wmp is not happy. I also tried installing the wm5 directshow filters for ogg container, vorbis (audio) and theora (video) (http://www.illiminable.com/temp/oggcodecs_wm5.CAB) to see if I could encode to this format and use directshow to playback. This failed with directshow's renderFile throwing the error "Could not load source filter for this format". Is there any other embeddable player for this platform that I can use to work around this problem or is there someway I can get more directshow filters (other formats)? If not, can you think of any other combination to get this to work? would appreciate your feedback very much. regards, Prashanth P.S: I tried using TCPMP (coreplayer/betaplayer) on the device.     - Why won't localizatio work in VS 2005? I have an app that runs on a Pocket PC and gives messages and prompts to the user in their local language, depending on the locale set on the PDA. This works fine in VS 2003 and Compact Framework version 1. When I change to VS 2005 and CF 2.0, what ever I do, I keep getting a "MissingManifestResourceException". The code is this: Public resMgr As New ResourceManager("Strings", _ [Assembly].GetExecutingAssembly()) Then for display, MessageBox.Show(resMgr.GetString("Holesdone")) As I say, in the earlier version, this worked fine.     - GPRS connection problem Helo, I have developed an application which collects some data from server using CHttpFile class. This application works fine using ActiveSync and Bluetooth. The problem is with GPRS. Whenever I make the call to SendRequest() application waits for a while and exits abruptly without firing any message.     - Installation of CAB files with no user interaction Hi. We are deploying programs as CAB files to remote (non technical) users of PDA's (Windows Mobile 5). We have a script running on the device which installs the CAB file using wceload.exe, but the install prompts you for the target folder, etc. we want the install to be automatic so the user has no interaction with it at all, and the install overwrites the existing program if it's already installed. We've tried the /noaskdest, /noui, /silent options in wceload but none of them worked on WM5. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to do this? Also, we want to change the target folder where the CAB installs from Device to \Application (as part of the silent install). How can we do this? Ian.     - My application cannot find the RAPI.dll on Vista x64 I have an application that uses the RAPI.dll to send commands to a device. The application works find on Vista, but when I try and run it on Vista x64 then it gives an error indicating it can't find the RAPI.dll. I checked and the RAPI.dll is in c:\windows\system32, which is also in my path. I can browse the device fine through the file explorer, so it looks like the built-in "ActiveSync" works. I ran the application in the dependecy walker and it showed c:\windows\system32 in the search path. It showed the following error for RAPI.dll "Error opening file. The system cannot find the file specified.". For kicks, I copied the RAPI.dll into the directory with my application. This fixed the RAPI.dll not found error, but introduced 2 new errors. 1) it said the dll was x64 based 2) it said it could not load another DLL that RAPI.dll depeded on. Is this a known issue? Or is there a known workaround? Do I need to do anything special to access RAPI on Vista x64. (As a side note, the application works perfectly fine on XP 64 with ActiveSync installed).     - GPSID questions Hello, I am currently developing GPS software for the PPC environment. I have some questions about setting up GPSID correctly: When lacking a GPSID control panel: 1. Who's responsibility is it to add posts to the multiplexer registry post? Is the the actual GPS driver software, or the GPS mapping software? I am aware of that the gps driver should setup CurrentDriver registry post and likewise create a key with the same name as CurrentDriver and add the subkeys needed in there. This will make GPSID to understand where to get data, but who will make GPSID understand where it should output data? I am talking about raw data streaming, not GpsOpenDevice. 2. How does one know what com port to setup in the multiplexer registry? If i just pick one, it might be occupied and then i dont know what will happen. 3. What will the Plug and play support actually do? It doesnt say anywhere what actually happens if my driver supports that. Hope someone knows! I have learnt that pocket pc applications can be developed using visual studio 2005 using any of the following: 1) C++ (MFC Libraries) 2) C# 3) VB.NET 4) Java.NET I have to choose one from the first two. Can any one help me with a comparative detaied list? I possibly have following questions: 1) Which one is faster? C# or MFC 2) Which one is better and easier to develop a application for Windows Mobile? 3) Which one produces comparatively smaller size application? 4) I already have a desktop application created using C++ (QT Libraries). What should be the better choice to port the same source code for Windows Mobile? 5) Does any of them have some particular limitations in regard to file type, image type or sound supported? 6) How to target maximum devices running Windows Mobile 2002,2003,2003 II Edition and 5.0? Is one of them (C# or MFC) better in this case? I think, answers to all these questions on this forum are going to be a great help for me as well as other new Windows Mobile applications developers.     - PhoneMakeCall makes app fail on PocketPC Hi. I have an application where I recently added the use of the PhoneMakeCall() method, adding the "phone.lib" library. This works great on Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone devices, but when I try to start my app on a Windows Mobile 5 PocketPC device, it fails to start. If I remove the PhoneMakeCall() call, it works. From what I can see in the doc from MS, it should work on PocketPC devices aswell, even though it probably won't do much use... :) Pocket PC: Pocket PC 2002 and later Smartphone: Smartphone 2002 and later OS Versions: Windows CE 3.0 and later.     - How to avoid a frame based window to be closed in WinCE? Hi there, I am a newbie of WinCE. I have an application which is CFrameWnd based application. In most cases of PDA, people click the close icon [X] of the form will only cause the AP to be hidden. However, I have a special PDA called O2(WM5) which will close my AP whenever the close icon [X] was clicked. Is there a way to prevent a frame base window to be close on WinCE ? I tried dialog based AP. In the case of dialog based application , I overrided the OnOK method, which can stop the CLOSE procedure successfully. However, In the case of CFrameWnd based application, even though I overrided the mehtod of CDocument::CanCloseFrame, the application still be closed. WHY? Let me wrote simply, hope you can find the place where is not correct.     - Navigate IVR Windows CE I am trying to navigate an IVR via TAPI on windows ce, I am able to use the lineGenerateDigits API call, but am running into a buffer limitation that I cannot get more than 14 digits pulsed out at once. What I would like to do now is try the following from a previous post: "To send DTMF tones during the call, you should post the WM_CPROG_SEND_VKEY_DTMF message to the CProg window. The CProg window can be found by looking for a window with class "MSCprog". The message is defined in \public\shellw\oak\inc\wpcpriv.h. The WPARAM for the message should be a TCHAR representing the DTMF character.     - WM 5.0 PPC or CE 5.0 as target device produces different behaviour when using Bluetooth. Short Background: I'm developing an application which connects to a custom hardware unit via Bluetooth. I'm experiencing different behaviour in the phase of connecting to the unit depending on which target device I'm selecting in Visual Studio 2005. I'm using a HTC P3600 (Bluetooth 2.0) with Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC. The custom unit is sampling data from a number of channels and sending the data via Bluetooth (2.0) in a custom format. Coding in Visual Studio Professional / C#. An example scenario where the problem happens: (Preparation) 1. Add the unit to the list of devices in the Bluetooth control panel. (enter pairing key, select serial port service) 2. Add an outgoing com port. (Start application) 3. Activate a configure function which opens the com port and sends a configuration message. 4. Activate a start function which sends a start message to the unit. The unit now sends sampled data back to me. The 'problem': If I have chosen 'Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Device' as target device I get a pop up message at step 3 telling me that the unit is trying to connect to me and asks if I want to add it to my list of devices. I select 'yes' and I have to enter the paring key and select the serial port service again. Now the outgoing com port is gone and as well the unit in the list of devices. So I have to perform step 1 and 2 again. If I say 'no' to adding the unit to my list of devices the unit and the com port are left untouched and I can proceed to step 4 with the configuration message in step 3 beeing recieved nicely by the unit. If I have chosen 'Windows CE 5.0 Device' as target device I never get the pop up and step 3 and 4 works like it should. The question(s): What's the difference in the two choices of target device that results in this behaviour? Can I change some settings to avoid the behaviour when selecting WM 5.0 PPC target device? Since I'm using a Pocket PC device it seems like I shouldn't be selecting CE. However, every thing works nice when using CE as target device (what I can see so far). Am I just lucky that everything works nicely on CE target device? Will I be unable to access some functionality in the WM 5.0 sdk when using CE target device? I hope: 1. I'm posting in an appropriate group. 2. My swedish -> english works for you all out there. 3.     - Storing data in XML files on Pocket PC I have developed a smart device application using SQL Mobile for data storage. The data is modified from the application and sync with HO database. The 2nd Phase of the application consist of customer enquiry from Pocket PC. The data will be fetched from web service and stored on the device. The data should be available to the PPC user in offline mode. The data won't be modified on PPC and would be in readonly mode. Creating new tables in SQL Mobile database for datastorage and retrieval is the one of the option. Other option is to store the data in XML files and retrieve the data when queried by the user.     - WM5: IDs for standard shell icons in coredll.dll? Hi, I am using ExtractIcon() to get ICON handles for folder and unknown icon from coredll.dll for some reasons. This worked fine for PPC2002 and WM2003 (only difference between them is, that the IDs for the icons where exchanged...) e.g. "coredll.dll,-id" But under WM5 I get not icon handles! Have the IDs changed again or even moved to another DLL!? Maybe I should use SHGetFileInfo()? How does this work for .NET CF 1.0 and C#?     - POCKET PC GUI issue Hi All, I have one appliaction which is meant for PocketPC devices. the GUI which i have made runs fine in an some versions of IPAQ(hp iPAQhx2410, hp iPAQ h6365, hp iPAQhw6965 etc.... ), which has got 240 X 320 pixel size and OS version is winCE4.21.     - How to associate a directdraw surface with a DC Windows Mobile 5 newbie, C++, Win32 I want to get a pointer to a memory buffer containing raw pixel data from an image loaded from a file. I've got code that loads the file into memory, and code that displays that image. But I want to access the memory that has the image data directly, and I want to do it my own buffer ins of the display memory. I can access the framebuffer directly: I do that by creating a surface with IDirectDraw::CreateSurface, which creates one for the device's display. Is there a way to get a surface for an in-memory device context? GetSurfaceFromDC would seem to do this, except that its documentation says that it "will succeed only for device context handles that identify surfaces already associated with the DirectDraw object."     - Wifi reconnect problems HP/Socket Hi We have some specialist evc4 applications that run on HP2210 and use a Socket CF wireless LAN card to communicate This combination works really well beacuse Socket have devloped their own special driver that allows for a non standard feature. This feature allows that when the card goes out of and back into range of the access point in AUTOMATICALLY reconnects. All other cards we have tried require the usual off/on the PDA or the radio or go into with WM2005 zero config to 'reset' the connection Now they have just developed a new 802.11g version of the card and this works great in the HP2210 with all of the features we need ..... except you can no longer get hold of the 2210 other than the occasional ebay item ! We are looking at it's natuaral replacement in the form of the new hx2190 Unfortuneatley there is a 'compatibility issue' between the card and the hx2190. Socket say they need HP to amend someting in the ROM and issue a ROM upgrade. I gather there has been a "half promise" from HP that this will happen but no date has been given and this has gone on for months. Now I know the next model up the hx2490 has built in wifi BUT we would loose the auto reconnect feature which is very important to us. I'm posting here in the hope that someone with close links to HP might see this and be able to help move the situation on. I can imagine there is no 'big rush' from HP as they already have a wireless version of this PDA but it must be a loss of a large target audience to Socket for it's CF Wifi card as there are not may pda's about with CF slots these days.     - Emulator doesn't work in VS 2005 Hi, I have a strange problem: I have a project for Compact Framework 1.0 developed in Visual Studio 2005. On my PC the project works perfectly. If I try to share the code with a collegue (through svn) it results that he CAN build the project, but he CANNOT deploy nor debug it on the Pocket PC emulator. It seems that it doesn't copy any file. We have tried to add a new CF1.0 project within the same solution, and it works. We have checked the projects' options: they are the same. Any suggestion?     - Passthru intermediate driver and Microsoft's Wireless Manager Hi. I am trying to make an NDIS intermediate driver based on the passthru example included in the platform builder. With both the passthru example from WINCE 5. 0 and WINCE 6.0 I run into the same problem: The passthru driver is not compatible with Microsoft's own application for powering WLAN on and off (this is the Wireless Manager or wrlsmgr.exe). After installing passthru and making sure it bind properly between the real WLAN miniport and all the protocols, the wrlsmgr.exe will no longer be able to power on or power off the card. This has been tested with Windows Mobile 5.0 devices and unmodified versions of the passthru example. There is a hack floating around in the Window Mobile newsgroups where you return NDIS_STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED instead of forwarding NetEventSetPower. This hack does not work for me.
