    - TodayScreen overwritting problem I want to display a dynamic (Integer) value in the TodayScreen. I am using the MyToday example given in the MSDN, but the problem is that, it is not clearing the previous message but overwritting on it. (This is done through the DrawText function). In one more example, I am using a Static Text (CreateWindow as "STATIC" Text), and displaying the message using SetWindowText Funciton, here the problem is, the Backround is not Transparent (White Rectangle around the dynamic text) but the above said problem is not happening here.     - Using regions Hi I'm trying to create a polygon window using SetWindowRgn(). But a problem is, I can't use CreatePolygonRgn(). They say at windows CE, they only support CreateRectRgn(). So I tried to create lots of rectangle region, and combine it with CombineRgn function. It works, but the speed is too slow.     - CAB installation and setting InstallDir at the last second (mobile When creating a CAB file you are required to set the InstallDir attribute under the [CEStrings] section of the CAB .inf file. My problem is that I'm not sure where I want to install the CAB file until the last possible second, as the CAB file is being installed. This is well after the CAB file has been built. In Mobile 4.2 you were able to override the InstallDir attribute at the last possible second by setting a registry value at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Application Installer\Install]. You would set the registry value for your app, call "wceload.exe /noaskdest", and then wceload would look at this registry key for where to install the contents of your CAB. (This is described at http://blog.opennetcf.org/afeinman/CommentView,guid,1de2284c-a65e-417c-a130-1bd5acd4ad3d.aspx) This no longer works in Windows Mobile 5.0. I know for sure that wceload still looks at that registry key, because if you just call "wceload.exe" it will install all the CABs listed in that key. The problem is that no longer overrides the InstallDir attribute. I've tried all combinations of command line switches (e.g. /silent, /noui) as well as signing the CAB, to no avail. In my search for an answer I found that you can create a setup.dll to accompany your CAB, which has four functions called by wceload. One of the functions is Install_Init, described at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/APISP/html/sp_ce_setup_install_init.asp One of the parameters passed in is the install directory. I thought it'd be sweet if I could modify that in memory and accomplish my goal. This doesn't seem possible though because it's specified as an [in] parameter. Anyone have any suggestions?     - Turning down volume of Windows Media Player while playing wave-file Hi, I am in the process of adding sound alerts to an existing Pocket PC application developed in evc 3.0. The application is targeting Pocket PC 2002 devices and higher. The application is used in scenarios where users might be listening to music from the media player, so I need to turn down the volume of the media player to maybe 10% or just mute the sound, while playing the desired wave files.     - PocketPC Phone Emulator - Roaming network? Hello, I've noticed the Pocket PC Phone Emulator (WM 5.0) includes a "Fake Radio" part (It registers on "Fake Network"). I've tried to see what other networks are available and also found "Fake Roaming Network" and "Fake Denied Network". However, I can't register the phone on "Fake Roaming Network" (trying to register it on the "denied" network obviusly fails). Is this a bug that can be fixed?     - COM APIs problem, Unable to intercept some APIs I have some prob. related to COM APIs. when i write data it writes successfully but when i tried to read from the port COM1 it flashes Error 998 which is "Invalid access to memory location." But as soon as i copy it , it is automatically deleted and copied in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs (where i already have an existing shortcut). Why is that? Can this be fixed?     - Backup and Restore on WM 5.0 Hi All, I am doing backup and restore on Pocket PC 5.0 using the functions "RegSaveKey" and "RegReplaceKey". I am able to successfully backup and Restore is also successful. But immediately after Restore operation all the file system is corrupted. I am unable to do any operation until i restart the system. Once i restart everything is set right and i am also getting back the restored files. Also after restart the Backup file is not present. I am not deleting the backup file through coding. I want to know why the file system gets corrupted ? And why it is deleting the backup file?     - Strange Problems Installing OpenNETCF on Pocket PC 2002s I'm experiencing something very strange. When I copy the OpenNETCF 1.4 CAB file over to a Pocket PC 2002 device and execute it, it does not extract its contents properly. I'm testing this on two different devices (a Casio and a Toshiba) and it's not working on either. The specific file I'm copying is this one: OpenNETCF.SDF.ppc3.arm.cab I SWEAR that this was not occurring before. I'm hoping that someone has experienced the same problem and can offer me a solution! This option is not available in the display setting of my windows 2003 V4.20.0 (Build 14053). The development is great, but my concern is the deployment. The .NET 2.0 framework is fairly large, and then add SQL Server mobile install. All of this just to run a simple DB app?     - Windows Mobile 5 Today Screen Softkey Hardware Mapping Problem I am developing a VC++ Win32 app for Windows Mobile 5.0 that will remap hardware keys on a proprietary device to various HotKeys. My problem is that I need to map F1 and F2 to HotKeys 1 & 2 (referenced as 40C1 & 40C2 in the registry) and the mobile devic eactually has a full integrated keyboard so it has all of the F keys. Unfortunately it seems that the OS have taken F1 and F2 (keycode 112 and 113) and mapped them as the left and right softkeys, since most devices don't actually have the F keys. (so now hitting F1 and F2 select calendar or contacts when on the today screen or menu items it a program is running that only has to menubar items which the OS then assumes you just want your menu items to be in those softkeys) So, no when I try to call RegisterHotKey() for F1 and F2 it returns 0 (failure), although F3-F12 work just fine.     - Connection to SQL Server very slow the first time Hi, I am new to PPC development. I have created a tiny app that wireless retrieves the info for a scanned item. It goes out to SQL Server 2000 on a server and runs the sp. The first time it takes about 87 seconds! For the first few seconds the wireless lights flash on my router. After that it just waits and waits and eventually works. Subsequent scans take about 3 or 4 seconds. So, does anybody know why it would do this? I was wondering if it was trying to connect with every 'adapter' listed on my PPC before deciding on one? Does anyone know the solution?
