    - PocketPC Emulator and Administrative Rights for Lab Use Hi, We are trying to get PocketPC emulation in VS.NET 2003 working in our school computer lab for a new class. Whenever a student tries to run their program, the emulator will not run, it gives a message about requiring Administrative Privs. Of course giving out those privs is not an acceptable solution given the school security needs.     - XDAII Mini services.exe problem Hi all, I have previously developed an application for the XDAII which runs within the services.exe executable on Windows CE. The app gets plenty of CPU time even when the device is in suspend mode. I have recently attempted to port this app to the XDAII Mini and although it runs fine when the device is active, when in suspend mode it gets no CPU time at all. Has anyone had experience developing for the XDAII Mini? Does the XDAII mini have a different power management technique than the XDAII?     - BT RFCOMM question. Hello everyone. I am working on a BT project for my PDA that involves a custom BT service that will allow connections to the PDA. I allocate the RFCOMM channel, create the server COM port, and register the service, and open this COM port to start waiting for connections. I then have a while loop that tests to see if any data is availabe on the COM port. It just sits and waits if no data is present. I am using the Drakar BT API with my socket SD card. Here at my steps. - I call DkAllocateRfcommChannel() that is called to assign the RFCOMM channel identificaiton number that will be associated with the service specificed by the GUID number. - I then call DkCreateServerComPort() that creates a server-mode Bluetooth virtual COM port. - Then called DkRegisterSerivce() this function registers a custom RFCOMM oriented service with the local SDP server. The GUID number of the service is used to register the service. The RFCOMM channel number and handle to the service are returned. I start my application by creating this service and the device connects to my PDA. The Bluetooth Device manager kicks in (putting my applications in the background?) asking for the pin code and if I would like to save the device and keep the bonding information. I try to click on the YES button but nothing happens. The device manager screen just sits there and does not not allow me to click and return to my program. I was expecting to be able to return from this screen and continue with my application reading data from the device. I have had problems in the past with MessageBoxs freezing up and not acting as expected. Is there some issues I am missing here? It seems to be that I need to have my application running first before the connection is made to be sure the right resources are used. (COM PORT, RFCOMM channel, etc.) But if I do the pairing with the PDA device manager with my application unloaded I am able to click through all the screens no problem and save the device. This would be the best case to use a cached connection for my service. But if I do it this way it won't sync up with the resources that my applications will use? Or will it? Examing the cached BT connection I can't seem to find the RFCOMM channel that it is using. And if I use the cached connection has there been an RFCOMM channel allocated for it yet?     - Context meus for editboxes I understand that defining a "SIPPREF" control for a dialogbox in the resource file of a project will cause a popup context menu to appear when you do a tap-n-hold on a editbox control. Question: Is there a way to have this same effect when editing an item in a TreeView control (which was created programmically for my main window)? Certainly, I could create my own popup menu to appear, but I'd rather use the same mechanism as the SIPPREF control uses. Any help would be appreciated!     - How can I use a PocketPC 'modem' under C# ? I get the impression TAPI and C# has already been discussed by various clever chaps and chapesses - but this mostly goes right over my head! All I want to know is how do I place a GSM call on my PocketPC (Mobile Phone Edition) using C# and .net CF. The device (MDA II / XDA II) even offers a 'wireless modem' feature to any external device - just connect per Bluetooth/USB/serial/IrDA and issue AT commands just like any other normal modem. But I am not an external device - I am (in this context!) an application running on the MDA II / XDA II. How do I get to place a GSM call (for V110 data) - I just want to dial a phone number and be told when I am connected, with the option to abort if this takes too long. I have no problem issuing AT commands, if I just knew where I should be sending them (I think it is a feature of TAPI to identify the 'modem' devices, but I am not at all sure!). Any user interface will be supplied by my application - the process of calling etc. must take place without any additional screens to bother the user. C++ is a number too big for me and TAPI is way too complex for what I want - has somebody got a neat, lightweight C# solution... or at least a push in the right direction!     - Using the tab control In eVB we didn't use the tab control because we couldn't get the tabs on top; instead we rolled our own, using labels and frames. Now we are wriging a new app in VB.NET, and we are disappointed to find that they have carried the same shortcoming of the tab control over to .NET!! (does anyone know why they would do that?) Anyway, we are tempted to use the tab control this time anyway, except for the added problem that I can't find a way to keep the control from obscuring the top of the screen. Does anyone know why it doesn't behave like a normal control and allow positioning on the screen, and does anyone have a workaround?     - Generated Cab file names different... I am developing an application running on .net compact framework, together with an sql server ce datatbase. When I generate the cab files needed for my application, the cab files are named [application name]_WCE4.[processor].cab and [application name]_PPC.[processor].cab for the WCE3.0 and 4.0 OS. So far so good. Because I need sql server ce as well for my project, all applicable files listed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\v1.0.5000\Windows CE\wce300 and \wce400 are added to my setup project as well. When I take a look at this file names the names are as following: sql.PPC3.[processor].cab. (PPC3 instead of PPC)!!!!!!! sql.WCE4.[processor].cab (ok that's the same as above) Why are the files names for Wce3 (PPC3) different with the file names generated by Visual studio (PPC). Question in general is: How does the msi file know, which cab file he should extract to the mobile device. Does the msi look to the (end of) the file name? Does anyone know of any software for a Pocket PC that emulates an A/V remote control and will transmit via IR (infrared) interface to a receiving PC, and then translate those IR codes into IP packets for a LAN, and then a receiving app (on a 2nd PC in another room) to translate IP back to IR in order to control A/V equipment? So, 3 software apps is what I'm looking for... 1 for the PDA, 1 for the 1st PC (receiving the PDA commands) and, 1 for the 2nd PC (receiving commands via IP) from the 1st PC... ***OR*** Of course, another alternative would be to use the PDA's WiFi interface to go straight to the distant PC (#2 in the above scenario) and then a receiving app would be there to translate commands over IP to IR?     - eVC / cdb / VO / adoce: register adoce31.dll and? Hi, The battery of my pocket pc ran down, so the pocket pc reinitialized. As my program is using VO classes / adoce3.1 for a cdb database, I had noted that I needed to copy and register (with regsvr) adoce31.dll. Bu it seems there's something else to do, as I still can't connect to my .cdb, though it is place in the right path. I tried to copy and register other dlls (adoxce31, oledb, msdadc etc.) but it still doesn't work, and I haven't found any answer searching the web :-( Do you know what I have forgotten to do?     - Cannot establish a connection.. yet again I havenâ??t been coding for my HP 2215 pocket pcâ??s for a couple of months. Back then all was fine. I had to switch a few lines for an urgent demonstration, and now Visual Studio.net 2003 can seem to see them. â??Cannot establish a connection. Be sure the device is physically connected to the development computerâ?? is how the error reads. Active Sync works fine, so I know itâ??s connected physically. Iâ??ve rebooted the dev system and the pocket pc. Per the one note recovered on this topic Iâ??ve found, Iâ??ve installed windows ce utilities pack, and tried a few different processor types to no avail. Iâ??m dead in the water. I've coded a simple application to test, and it works fine in the emulator, but connection error stops its getting to the PPC Am I missing something stupid here? I canâ??t figure out what has changed in the 2 months Iâ??ve been away from coding. Thereâ??ve been a few updates to windows XP, most notably the appearance of Microsofts new firewall, but Iâ??ve shut it off temporarily. I think Iâ??m missing some trivial thing. While testing the application, I saw, that there is a problem by opening JPGs.     - Debugging resources not downloaded using eVC4 I have been developing an MFC app using eVC4 for some time, debugging on several PDA's. The last time I switched to a new PDA, the resources needed for debug was not downloaded to the target. I have several PDA's of the same kind, and with the old one, which have all the resources already, debugging works just fine. But on new ones, the debugging resources does not get downloaded, so when I try to start the app, either directly on the PDA or from eVC, it says that some resources are missing. The release compile of the app still works fine. I also tried to make a new, empty project, with one single dialog, and that worked both in release and in debug. Is there some way to force eVC to download the resources? I have checked the "Always download dependencies" option in Tools->Option->Download, so that is OK.     - Capturing ALL hardware buttons XPost, FupTo: microsoft.public.pocketpc.developer Hello, I know this has been asked 100 times on these groups, but although I did a thorough search I could not find a solution to this problem. Some claim it just cannot be done, some claim it's as easy as calling RegisterHotKey. Truth is, nothing worked for me. What I want to do is capture all hardware buttons on a Pocket PC (Phone Edition). I am already able to get hardware button notifications from regular buttons by calling SHSetAppKeyWndAssoc. No problem there, just that the two phone buttons still exhibit default behavior. I am also able to capture all hardware buttons by calling UnregisterFunc1, then RegisterHotKey, which will even get me KeyDown and KeyUp messages for the buttons. Trouble is that - as expected - calling UnregisterHotKey is not enough to have the phone application re-capture the button I unregistered it with. I know this is possible as it's done by both Age Of Empires and Spicy Pixel's MorphGear. Both receive button presses of the Call and End-Call buttons and restore all buttons when exiting. Here's my question: How can I do this? How is it possible to receive notifications of all hardware buttons without leaving them disabled until the next soft-reset?     - eVC 4.0 error at startup & can't install any service pack I installed eVC 4.0 using instructions provided with the Windows Mobile Developer Resource Kit and used the files on the CD. My OS is WinXP Pro SP2 (MDac 2.8 included). No other IDE installed. In this order, I installed 2002 Tools and SDKs, eVC4.0, 2003 SDK. eVC will display this error msg when starting the application: "No primary platforms are available. The build system will be disabled. It is likely that a build system 'add-on' platform (.pkg), installed by Setup, failed to load." and eVC will crash. How do I fix this? I tried to install SP3 thinking it will fix this problem but when the setup updates the registry, an error message shows up: > ODBC Error: > Function: execscript:SQLExecDirect > Return Value: SQL_ERROR > State: 23000 > Native Error: -3100 Then the installation aborts. Also tried SP1, SP2 and SP4 and all failed for the same reason. All this sounds like a dead end. I tried uninstalling/installing many times in different orders. I also made sure that no apps were running in background. Also cleared the registry of any eVC, SDK keys. I can't find information about this issue. Only about the same questions but no answer.     - Is there a way to tell if a specific appointment/task has been modified? I am trying to see if specific appointments or tasks have been modified since the last sync date. Is there a way to do this using Win32 and not MFC? I am writing a small app that needs to be able to build a list of appointments and tasks that have been modified in any way since the last sync. I have looked in the POOM documentation and in the on-line help and I can not see any properties or anything that would indicate to me that the appointment or task is "dirty". Is this even possible?     - PPC2003 no connect ActiveSync? I have installed Pocket PC 2003 SDK, eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 and ActiveSync 3.7.1. I am also using the emulator and Do Not have a physical device. How do you get the Pocket PC 2003 Emulator and ActiveSync to connect? I have gone through all the help files and been through all the newsgroups? One thing I read that I did not see - When configuring the platform manager inside VC++4 and clicking on the properties of the Pocket PC 2003 Emulator - the startup Server: drop down list box does not have the startup server option.     - EVT 3.0 2002 edition no connection to device? Hi, I have just installed the Embedded Visual Tools 3.0 2002 edition. I generated the Hello World example (C++) to basic test the installation. The program could be compiled without problems. But when EVC comes to uploading the binary, I get the following message: The Microsoft ActiveSync connection server has failed. Please make sure Microsoft ActiveSync is running and retry the download by Rebuild All or Update Remote Ouput File(s). Also make sure that you have selected the correct platform. Well, my PPC is a HP iPaq rx3715 with Windows Mobile 2003 se. It has a Samsung processor (ARM compatible of course). Settings in EVC are 'Pocket PC 2002 - Win32 (WCE ARM) Debug - Pocket PC 2002 (Default Device)'. I am running Windows 2000 Server on my development machine. I have run this configuration before with no problems. But I deinstalled everything half a year ago. The only difference I can think of is that back then I already had the standard EVT 3.0 (2000 edition) on my computer when I installed the 2002 edition.     - Pocket PC for field data collection Sorry about reposting this but I wanted to clarify more. I'm new to PPC development and I am going around in circles on the net researching this topic. I need an application on PPC 2003 for people to collect data in the field. This data then needs to be added to an access database at the end of the day. No wireless or realtime data transfer is needed, the app is just to emliminate re-typing notepads of data. I want the app to be simple enough for a child to use so I will write an interface with vb. NET. It would also be useful to have some recent information available on the pocket PC for the field techs to examine if needed. Since this will be a fairly simple database, would the best solution be to purchase a third party pocket access product (sprintDB has good reviews) ?     - SAPI 5 and CE .NET I need to implement speech function on a pocket pc 2003 device - both TTS and SR. I learned that Windows CE .NET 4.2 support SAPI 5, but there is no SDK package available for CE (like SAPI 5.1 SDK for desktop pc). I browsed web sites that microsoft listed on (http://www.microsoft.com/speech/evaluation/thirdparty/engines.asp), but most of them have their own API instead of SAPI, and many just support TTS. By my understanding, SAPI is just a set of COM components, is there anyway that I can get these components for a specific platform (like ARM + PPC2003), then use eVC4 write program? Or can I use Platform Builder build a customized ROM image with SAPI support, then copy these SAPI dlls to existing PPC2003 device?     - pimstore dll for working with pocket outlook calendar Hi all I have just started some research into writing an app for Windows Mobile 2003 for an ARM processor device, so please excuse my in-experience or any stupid questions... What I would like to do : ---------------------------- I would like to write an app for a Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 2003 that can take data from a received SMS message and create a new calendar appointment using some of that data. However the part about getting the data from an SMS is the second phase and all I'm concentrating on right now is being able to add,delete and view appointments/calendar items. What I have done : ---------------------- I have created a windows mobile app using visual studio .Net and VB.Net and have got the basic frontend of the prototype that I want to demo for my boss. All using the Windows Mobile 2003 emulator. Where I am stuck : ---------------------- I want to create a new calendar entry. So I try import the pimstore.dll for the arm processor however it is not a valid assembly, presumably because the .Net compact framework doesn't allow COM dll's to be referenced as in a normal .Net desktop application. So I use the tlbimp.exe function to change the pimstore.dll to a pimstoreM.dll. Now this file I can import into my Mobile app but with an error that the import may or may not be for the correct platform. ?? Once that has been added, I cannot view the reference in the object browser as normal, but I can type all the coding using the normal pimstore.dll interfaces, without any errors indicated by the blue underlining. However when I compile the app i get the following : 1) Error: The dependency 'mscorlib, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=969db8053d3322ac' in project 'Diarise' cannot be copied to the run directory because it would conflict with dependency 'mscorlib, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. and 2) Error: The dependency 'mscorlib, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' in project 'Diarise' cannot be copied to the run directory because it would conflict with dependency 'mscorlib, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=969db8053d3322ac'. through the ipaq.
the main problem is that when my pc is connected to the internet, my ipaq
can see the local website, but when i disconnect, i cannot connect to my
local site anymore.

help?
