This is really frustrating... I have eVC++ 3.0 installed and have been
using it without problems. When I've installed eVC++ 4.0 though, I can't
even launch it because I get the following error:

"Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ has discovered no CE platform SDK installed
on the desktop. Please install at least one CE platform SDK before
launching Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++."

The trick is that I HAVE installed the SDK, and reinstalled, and uninstalled
and reinstalled, and nothing is getting past this...

I've installed the Pocket PC 2003 SDK, the CE.NET 4.0 SDK, the CE.NET 4.2
SDK, and the sample SDKs but I still get this error. I can't tell from
where VC++ 4.0 is enumerating it's list of installed SDKs; it doesn't appear
to be in the registry but I could be missing it.

Does anyone have any ideas on this one? I'd like to do both PPC2003 and
CE.NET 4.2 and can do neither because of this.

Thanks!

Timothy

eVC++ 4.0 cannot find Platform SDKs by raajen

I had similar problem. After installation of each
component, I reboot the PC. It worked fine.

Unfortunately this still didn't fix the problem. I've even uninstalled eVC
3.0, all my other CE SDKs (HHPC, PPC, PPC2000, PPC2002, SmartPhone) and
wiped their directories and registry keys. I then uninstalled ActiveSync
3.7 and wiped those directories and registry keys as well.

At this point I THOUGHT I'd have a clean slate to start from, but apparently
not. I installed (in this order):

1. ActiveSync 3.7.1
2. eVC 4.0
3. eVC 4 SP2
4. CE 4.2 Standard SDK

And I still get the message "Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ has discovered no
CE platform SDK installed
on the desktop. Please install at least one CE platform SDK before
launching Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++."

I've tried rebooting before step 1 and after each step, but nothing seems to
help.

Does anyone know (or for the love of God Microsoft could you just LOOK?)
where the "currently installed" CE SDKs are enumerated in the registry? Is
there some kind of a base folder that they have to be installed under? (I'm
using the default path for all installations and the "complete" install
where applicable).

This is making Symbian development look more and more attractive...

Installing eVC 4 is known to cause some problems for eVC 3, but I
don't remember experiencing or seeing a warning about this particular
symptom. I know I recently saw an article on Microsoft's site about
using eVC 3 and eVC 4 on the same computer. But I can find neither it
nor the newsgroup article that pointed me towards it (my database is
sometime write-only:-(

I suspect a registry setting, or database support. In particular, I've
seen one of the IDEs post a (at least somewhat) similar message
because I didn't have the right version of the JET database support. I
actually found the solution to this problem by using google to look up
the error message I saw, and wading through all the hits. With that in
mind, I just used google to look up the error message and got 83 hits.
The first few look iffy, but I _think_ you will find useful info if
you wade through them all.
