I don't intend to cause offence to anyone but my general experience with MS
hosted newsgroups is the time it takes to get a response to questions. I'm
use to forums where there is a more livelier interaction to threads and I
wonder if I might not be better off posting my questions to another forum. I
really need a quicker turnround time to questions and the experience I've had
in this forum is more or less the same I've had in other MS newsgroups. I
might be trying to post questions to a more discerning newsgroup here, where
if I go to another forum somewhere else, I can at least share the same
crowded bar-room if you get my meaning. Please don't take this as a negative
criticism.

Despite my experience with .Net in general, I'm new to pocket pc development
so there are many things I need to ask and I'm wanting quicker turn round of
responses rather than wait a day or more for one-shot quality which is what
I'm probably getting here. The busier the newsgroup, the more likely I might
get my responses. I hope you can help.

Thanks

Peter.

Since you mention .NET in your post I am assuming you wish to develop for
Pocket PC with the .NET Compact Framework, you should post any .NET Compact
Framework related questions in the dedicated newsgroup at:-
microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.compactframework

Peter,

Is that the right group for me to try first, do you think?

My environment: iPaq HX4700 running Windows Mobile 2003 SE. I have VS.Net
2003 installed plus the SDKs etc I downloaded from MS for the emulators etc.
In general, I want to ask about general development on my device, deployment,
debugging, memory management, is-this-possible-and-why-not type of questions.
I would have thought this newsgroup I'm on now was the preferred newsgroup
for iPaq pocketpc development?

Regards

Peter.

No offence taken here.

I find the fastest way to get answers to my questions is with google
(http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search). I often get answers
in less time than I would need to _write_ and submit a reasonable
question for a forum. If google doesn't answer my question, playing
with search strategies and wandering through the hits I do get helps
me formulate a question that is more likely to get a "good" (for my
purposes) answer the first time.

I've also found that in the longer term, monitoring newsgroups has
given me answers to questions I hadn't yet asked.

If your writing in .NETCF then thats definately a good place to post and
it's a very active newsgroup. However I'd also agree with Robert in that
checking the google archives first for the newsgroup you can often find a
lot of issues which have already be discussed.
