    - FindFirstDevice issue -- very weird I met some very very weird issue using FindFirstDevice. If I call ShowNotification and RemoveNotification, will I have memory leaks? SHNotificationAdd is passed szMessage, which is local variable and will be destroyed at end of function. So, do I have to save the string buffer or does SHNotificationAdd COPY this to some internal buffer? If not, I must free this buffer myself after the call to SHNotioficationRemove ? 2. The icon is displayed in title bar. I read that it is a bitmask, so my icon is only black on transparent background.     - CE 5 Emulator: Which .NET CF 2? Hello I want to run a CE 5 CF 2 application. As the CE 5 Emulator (Standard) only has CF 1 installed, I'm trying to install CF 2. Which package do I have to install? ARM, MIPS or X86? I've tried to install the X86 and I could start my app, but using system.drawing.bitmap.Save(....), I get a NotSupportedException... think CF 2 is not correctly installed, although the device says that it's installed...     - Compressing wav files I need to compress wav files before sending them from the device. I am recording using the Waveform Audio API and was intending compressing using the ACM API. However some of the functions I would use on desktop client for processing WAV files appear to be missing (mmioOpen, mmioClose etc) from the Windows Mobile 5 /6 SDK.     - WZCQueryInterface not returning results for INTF_PREFLIST On newer WM5 devices and all WM6 devices (that I could tell), calling: DWORD dwStatus = WZCQueryInterface(NULL, INTF_PREFLIST, &Intf, &dwOutFlags); returns an ERROR_SUCCESS but the dwOutFlags are always 0 and no data is returned. Setting the preferred list seems to always succeed but it has the effect of clobbering all of the profiles since you can't get the original list prior. Is there a solution to this?     - How to determine if volume window is active? Can anyone help me out with this problem? I need a way to detect if the Volume window is active in a native C++ app on a PPC, either WM5 or WM6. Some devices activate the volume window by pressing an up or down key on the device. Other devices don't have a key assigned to volume but you activate the Volume window by tapping on the speaker icon in the task bar. I have a timer going so every interval I check the current foreground window. If it's not my app, I want to do one thing if it's the volume window, something else if it's anything else. Problem is I don't know how to distinguish the volume window from any other window. Can anyone help? Some of the things I've tried so far: Checked window text of the foreground window: it's empty (""), I was expecting/hoping for "Volume" Checked if foreground window is same as task bar.     - VS2005 Remote Tools Stopped Working Recently my VS2005 remote tools stopped working -- Remote Registry Editor, Remote Process Viewer, VS2005's VC++ deploy & remote debug, and so on. When these tools try to connect to the device, the connection attempt eventually just times out. If I open the Connectivity Manager Configuration window and try to test the connection, I get the message "The data necessary to complete this operation is not yet available". Oddly, the Transport and Startup Server config buttons are both clickable, but don't open any dialogs. I can't be certain, but all of this seems to have started about the same time that I installed MS Project 2007, and then followed up with some Windows and Office updates. Has anyone had anything similar to this happen to them? Incidentally, I also have EVC4 installed; the two have been peacefully coexisting for over a year now.     - VS2005 DataSet problem Hi. I am building a Pocket PC app to test various things. In VS2005, I have a DataSet and in Server Explorer I have opened a Data Connection to a database (.sdf) on the device. Then I drop tables on the DataSet. This works OK for all tables except one, where I get a message: Failed to merge object(s). An item with the same key has already been added. This particular table has a primary key consisting of 3 short integers. As far as I can see, there is nothing wrong with this table as such. I can drop all the other tables onto the DataSet designer, only this one cannot coexist with any of the other ones. I may not be an advanced developer when it comes to working with the Compact Framework, but I am not a beginner either.     - Debugging Windows Mobile process in Visual Studio Hi, I installed Visual Studio 2005 and I want to run an ARM executable on Windows Mobile emulator, attach debugger to the process, set breakpoint at an API function and when the breakpoint is hit, save memory dump. I'm familiar with OllyDbg and I don't understand why simple things make so much trouble in VS. I start the process in emulator and attach debugger to it, then I can view memory at given address, but I can't dump a block of memory to a file since Save Dump As command in Debug menu is disabled. I can't set breakpoints on API functions either. I choose Breakpoint at Function and enter function name (such as CreateFile), but it says 'The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No executable code is currently loaded at this location'. I read somewhere that I first need to load symbols for modules loaded by the process. I found some pdb files in Visual Studio directory, but I can't figure out how they match modules loaded by the process (for example, which pdb file should be loaded for coredll.dll).     - emulator needs "Not using MFC" for MFC projects Hello, there is one (among others) strange thing about eVC4 that I'd like to understand. If I create a new MFC project with the "PocketPC 2003 MFC Project AppWizard", and I compile and execute it in the emulator, it doesn't work ("Cannot execute program"). But it runs on the device. If I change "Use MFC in a Shared DLL" to "Not using MFC" in Project- >Settings, it runs in the emulator, too. Why is this?     - Migration problem from eVC to WM5 Hi, We have an ATL COM project migrated from eVC4. It compiles and links and registers successfully on the device. However, none of the functions specified in the IDL file cannot be invoked when I load the HTML page in Internet Explorer. It says "Object does not support this property or method".     - How to debug ActiveSync service providers? I've been trying debugging the StockPor example under Visudio Studio 2005, but it seems hard, if not impossible. First of all, I can't find a proper .exe module to load the DLLs (both desktop and device). Secondly, the DLL on the device side is always locked once the emulator is connected. The StockPor MSDN article did not mention how to debug it, but given the difficulty I experienced, I figure there has to be another article discussing how to debug ActiveSync service providers. Does eVC4 have an option to import all source files below a certain directory? And, if possible, preserve the directory structure from disk in the solution explorer (for better orientation)? The only way I see at the moment, is to browse through the three levels of subdirectories of the application, create these directories in the solution explorer, and add the files to the project directory after directory. I have a 3rd party application that inserts its own events into this list. Aside from registry settings, there's a DLL I think that actually registers this Event. If I'm correct, an event is identified by a GUID. For example, I have an application where pressing a button, fires a notification. So under Sounds & Settings, I want to add an event "MyApp: Button Click". What if I want to attach an event to "Start" menu, so that when it is clicked, device vibrates? (Just as an example). If you are talking about the SIP, then no. You would either have to roll your
own or filter out unwanted key presses.
