Hi all,

I'm trying to do some development on one of the Audiovox Thera with
PPC2002 on it. I downloaded the SDK for the sierra wireless device
built-in to this unit and it references that the examples were built
with VB 6.0. Does VB6 allow CE development? I was under the
impression that you had to purchase the full blown Visual Studio
Enterprise to get CE application development.

So with that, I lead to the second question of does anyone know if the
eVB development environment might work with the sierra stuff.

I tried installing the eVB stuff on my HP zd7500 notebook (Media Center
Edition) and it simply bombed out when I hit the test in the Emulator
option and rebooted the system. I'm going to try the DEP option to see
if I can run it after changing that.

Any other suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Ken

Ken,

You can develop for PPC 2002 devices with Visual Studio 2003 Pro or above
using VB.Net or C#. You should also be able to use eVB for PPC 2002 devices,
although eVB is no longer being enhanced and won't work with future Windows
Mobile devices.

Ginny Caughey answered most of your questions. I'll add a little
(below).

Microsoft used to sell a toolkit that would let VB 6 (or VC 6) build
for CE. I haven't seen anyone distributing it for several years.

The SDKs that worked with the VB 6/VC 6 toolkit _do_ work with eVC 3
(I use them almost daily). I don't use VB or eVB, but I'm pretty
confident the SDK you downloaded will work with eVB, and suspect you
won't be able to use the samples directly.

Given that the emulators are installed, I gather your notebook is not
running Windows 9x. But just in case you are and the installer goofed,
you need to know that the emulators don't run under Windows 9x.

thanks a bunch for the replies. Yes this unit is running the Media Center
Edition of XP. I'll see what I can make happen. Still rebooting like crazy
and I've tried just about everything I can find a discussion about on the
Internet regarding this issue.

Thanks,
Ken
