I was sent a beta copy of PPC2003 from HP which I've installed on my H3870,
and today I've been sent the final release. However the installation checks
the model number of the device with the ROM image, unfortunately it appears
that the beta version didn't include this or blanked the relevant fields.

Now when I try to apply the Update the reported Model ID is '"" and needs to
be iPAQ 3800 and the update fails. I've sent HP an email, but is there a way
to manually add this information, maybe in the registry?

Did HP not give you any instructions to restore your ROM back to PPC 2002
from the beta?
If you are able to successfully do this you can then apply the final
release.

The beta didn't have a backup option it was a standalone HOST11.EXE which
you run when the iPAQ is in USB update mode. However I have managed to
backup a new H3870 but I'm not sure what the beta has done to the two
devices I applied it to. Now when you look in the Asset view the Asset No &
Serial number are both blank, even after restoring a perfectly normal
machine. The beta has really screwed these machines, HP/Compaq are currently
looking into the problem however the worring thing is that I've seen this
beta floating around the Warez groups so it may become a more serious
problem.
