Hi,

What AV codecs does PPC Windows Media Player 8.6 Support?

I have been using Windows Media Encoder to produce videos in WMV8
format for my PocketPC. I'm tired of dealing with Windows Media
Encoder's flaky behavior (I encode many hours of video in an automated
way and it seems to routeinly crash at some point in the process).

What are my options for producing video files for a Pocket PC with WMP
8.5? I think it supports MPEG1. I suspect it doesn't support MPEG2.
What about MPEG4? If it does support MPEG4 does that mean it supports
DivX? What encoder should I use?

Thanks!
John

Youi can use DivX and alike. But not with that crappy WMP.
Try an alternative like Beta-Player*. They come shipped with apropriate
decoders and also provide a plugin interface afaik.

I don't think that there is a WMP version that has an MPEG-1 codec on Pocket
PC. MPEG-2, no.

DivX is not exactly MPEG-4, it's a hybrid format, not part of the MPEG-4
standard, since it uses MPEG-1 Layer 3 audio.

You can use TCPMP (for DivX and MPEG-1) and PocketTV (for MPEG-1), both have
free versions.
