    - dialog based wizard Hi, Using native API, what is best way to create a 'wizard' type application based on dialog box templates? (Wizard is where multiple dialog boxes are displayed in sequential order, which you can switch between using buttons like "Next" and "Previous") Shoudl I create a dialog box, then destroy it and create the next one, or create all of them and handle switching between pages by making dialog boxes visible or invisible.. I do not wish to use property sheets, or tabs, because I want to be smartphone compatible. I think if I create these dialog pages and destroy them, between switches the today screen might flash because there will be an intermediate time where there are no windows visible. Perhaps create next page, then hide previous.. What is the common way (how is it done on smartphone?) Also, my main application window will be a dialog. And dialogs have a windows classname of "Dialog", correct? Is it possible for me to use my own classname to better use "FindWindow" ? Or is it possible for me to create a generic window, which I register myself, with my own classname, and then subclass a dialog box with it or something? Ideas welcome..     - Mobile Device Application for inventory tracking Hello. I'm working on a project at work that deals with a handheld scanner for inventory tracking. Currently, we use VisualCE 9.0 to build our form. Its very simple, but that's the downside. We'd like to implement some advanced features, which VCE doesn't support. How well do .NET languages run on Mobile Devices? Our scanner is a PocketPC-based model from LXE. Our resources are not infinite, but if it can be justified, our IT department (from India, no less) can begin development on a new application. Here are some of the business requirements: 1. Must be very easy to use with a very short learning curve. 2. Must be very fast, ie no clicking verification windows, tabbing to the next field, but still have validation rules for the fields. 3. Must have a database back-end. A master file must be loaded and records processed from this master. As they are processed, they must be deleted to assure no duplicate work is completed. Typically, there will be upwards of 10,000 records at any given time, with an upper echelon well into the 100,000s. 4. Must be able to integrate with Access. This could be discarded if an additional application could be built that resides on a desktop, but the scanner must be able to communicate with this application. That's why Access seems to be the easy way out. Again, how easy is it to develop PocketPC applications using .NET? I have some C# experience, but can't remember if its an option or not.     - Help with first Pocket PC App. Hello, I am entertaining the idea of creating an application for my Pocket PC 2003. I will be starting at the ground floor. Have never programmed before I have received the DVD disk of the SDK for Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PC. But it is hard to know were to start. The app. is intended to send commands over a RS232 to a piece of measuring test equipment. There is only about 6 commands. Also the test equipment will send 'data dumps' to the Pocket PC. I understand that Hyper terminal work well for this on a PC. So I was thinking a GUI interfaced hypertermal kind of thing. Any suggestions on terms and technologies to learn would be great.     - Limit of network APIs Hi, I am not really a specialist on PPC programming so ... I would like to know if it is possible to create a program on PCC that will be able to read/write network frames ? For example, reading frames such as Netmon on Windows (TCP, IP, ARP, ...), ... and also send frames either at the TCP/IP level or lower on the OSI model. I would like to use a PCC using a WiFi card working in 'promiscuous' mode to be able to see all the frames. If it is possible to do so, I would like to use the .net framework. What do you think ?     - Install / run from storage card. I have an app created with pocketpccreations applications. This contains the exe file, custom points(DLL's) and my own forms. I need to be able to send a client a storage card with all the data on it. When the card is installed the client has to find the exe file and create a short cut to it within the programs folder. Is there a way to automates this. EG when the card is put into the pocket pc automatically add a shortcut to the exe file.     - Can Activesync wirelessly take care of XML files exchange ? Hi everyone... I'm currently developing a sometimes-online-sometimes-offline app for Windows Mobile 2003. I decided to employ data in XML files and rely on Activesync to take care of the syncronicity between files in the desktop computer (product database & others going from the desktop to the handhelds) and the PocketPCs (orders going from the handhelds to the desktop). The first doubt : is Activesync able to keep files syncronized wirelessely in more than one Pocket PC at a time -to the same desktop computer ? If not, what would the best alternative be to this scenario ? The other question : I've seen some messages about WiFi no longer being supported in new the Activesync version...     - Passing authentication info to EAP-PEAP via RasEapGetIdentity Hi, I was wondering if someone knowledgable about Microsoft's implementation of EAP-PEAP could answer a question for me. I am using Platform Builder 5.0, my os is WinCE5.0. I want to use EAP-PEAP to do wireless authentication. My target device does not have a display, so no UI, and cannot interact with a user in any way. In order to authenticate with an Access Point, PEAP needs to have a username and password. What I want to do is set the registry at COMM\EAP\Extension\25\InvokeUsernmeDialog=0, InokePasswordDialog=0, and IdentityPath=my own dll that implements the RasEapGetIdentity function. RasEapGetIdentity is allowed to pass back a ppUserDataOut, a BYTE array of arbitrary length, and ppwszIdentity, which is a Unicode string for the user identity. ppUserDataOut is then passed to the EAP-PEAP module in the PPP_EAP_INPUT.pUserData field during the RasEapBegin call. I have two questions: 1. Does the EAP-PEAP module extract the password from the pUserData byte array? 2.     - How do I get ActiveSync to automatically start my desktop app? I'm writing my first mobile enterprise application in C#. I've done some research and discovered that I can reference the "OpenNETCF.Desktop.Communication.dll" library so that my desktop app will be notified whenever a connection is made with ActiveSync. The code to do this is similar to this: rapi.ActiveSync.Active += new ActiveHandler(ActiveSync_Active); This I will definitely implement but it means that the desktop app would have to be running in order for synchronization with the associated Pocket PC app to occur. I'm wondering if there's a way to get ActiveSync to activate my desktop app? My first inclination was to find a registry setting where I could plug in the full pathname of the desktop EXE.     - Startup applications versus services - trust question Using Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC, am I right in thinking that applications launched from the Startup folder can be signed with the unprivileged certificate, but anything run within services.exe has to be signed with the privileged certificate?     - Best Practice Next/Back Multi Form Page of Data Input Well I've mastered alot concepts of CF, but a little new to windows forms. Because of screen size, my particular task requires more input boxes then spaces allows. Kind of like a long question/answer process. I already now how to capture and store the data locally in XML but stumped on best way to provide a FORM to allow a sort of "NEXT" button that take me to the next page of input boxes. My plan was to track a page index number and just hide the control that do not apply on a particlur step when switch between next and back, but the design view will have overlapped controls.     - CeSetUserNotificationEx - or how to really wake up the system? Hi group I'm using CeSetUserNotificationEx() to sucessfully start a (second) instance of my application at a predefined point in time in the future. If the point in time is reached, this second instance is created, and all it does is sending a private message to the previousely running one which also gets that message then it terminates. The first instance processes this message. However, this first instance of the application (or the system if you want) does not really seem to wake up completely. I.e. a timer that was running before the system went to suspend mode does not seem to be called. It looks like the system instantly goes back into suspend mode. I tried to call SystemIdleTimerReset() in the code that processes the private wakeup message but that does not change things.     - Pocket PC 2002 ID i wonder if there is a way to get the pocket pc unique ID without calling coredll.dll, for example including coredll.lib into my .exe, or doing a lower level call. I'm already using the KernelIoControl, and it's working fine, but i want to know if there is a way to include the KernelIoControl into my exe file so it won't depend on the DLL. I'm wondering what the latest/greatest options are for WM 2003 with
respect to text-to-speech. After some hunting via Deja/Google it seems:

- No SAPI support exists, so no generic interface to use and allow third
party plug-ins...therefore all TTS support must be targeted at a specific
engine/SDK.

- A fully Microsoft-based solution only exists with the new Speech Server.

....please correct me if I'm wrong :-)

Regardless of the above, I'm curious how the commercially available
engines rate. If anyone has some insight/opinions to share I'd greatly
appreciate it!
