    - How to configure bluetooth COM ports on Windows CE 4.2? Hi, I'm a developer and I'm trying to make a program on WindowsCE that will print on external printers connected via Bluetooth. My handheld PC is an Intermec CK31 with Windows CE v4.20. Actually I'm trying to configure three COM ports on the device and setting the communication with three bluetooth-serial adapters mounted on three serial printers. I have already done this operation in the past on an Intermec CN3 with Windows Mobile v5.0 those are the operations successfully made on Windows Mobile 5.0: - Found the three bluetooth devices and paired them as external devices - Associated every paired device with a local COM port of the Windows Mobile device - I've sent the data via a program written in VB.NET 2005 with CF.net 2.0, through System.IO.Ports.SerialPort, and it worked correctly! On the Windows CE 4.2 Device I've got a problem: I can only do the first step, because in WM4.2 i can't find any panel that can see or associate local COM ports to the device. Does anyone knows a solution for my problem? Does exist a program or a driver that let me choose the com ports on windows CE 4.2? And if so, where? It would be pretty cool to be able to use your old PDA (or touchscreen cell phone) as an touchscreen input device or game controller like the Nintendo DS has... I have some older PDAs (Cassiopeia E-100, iPAQ 3650) and handhelds (NEC MobilePro 770) whose usefulness would be rejuvenated with this type of application. Or even plugging in your Windows Mobile cell phone to use as an input device for a desktop application such as a game or drawing app. I would think they'd have to connect to the PC via sync cable (serial in the case of the Cassiopeia or MobilePro, USB in the case of the iPAQ). Either the throughput would have to be fast enough to send screen updates to the PDA (say 320x240 res, 65535 colors) and for the PDA to send screen taps to the PC. Maybe after initializing the PDA's display, the driver software would only send screen changes (like VNC viewer) to save bandwidth. For the non-USB devices, the only other ways to connect would have to be through a NIC (the E-100 only has a CF slot, so you'd need to find a CF NIC) or IR (sounds kludgy, probably slow.     - tagName property in PIE I am trying to use document.all and the tagName property of HTML elements in PIE to create a workaround for the missing getElementsByTagName() method. Despite Microsoft's claim that it's available: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa455224.aspx tagName is always blank or missing. In case the way I populate the page is significant: I have written web applications that render pages by transforming various bits of an XML document using XSLT. My methods work on desktop IE and mozilla browsers, but I am also trying to make it work on my pocket pc phone to see if it's possible. Basically, I'm trying to find a lowest common feature set I can use to develop so-called AJAX pages for these three platforms. Please let me know if anyone has been able to access the tagName property, or if this is a known bug, or anything else with which you can enlighten me.     - ActiveSync can not delete account while SNAPI'd Hi, I monitor ActiveSync status like so: RegistryNotifyWindow( HKEY_CURRENT_USER, L"Software\\Microsoft\\ActiveSync\\Partners\\{<key>}", L"LastSyncResult", hWnd, WM_USER_LASTSYNCRESULT, 0, NULL, &g_hNotify); The docs say that when the above key is deleted, I will get notified with a zero value. This works fine, except, while the above notification monitoring is active, user is unable to delete the ActiveSync account. ActiveSync > Menu > Options> Delete. The following messagebox is displayed: [Can't save settings] Synchronization settings cannot be saved because your device is currently synchronizing.... Why?     - Soft Key Menus Left or Right Side? Short Question: Should mainmenu menu options go on the left or right side for Mobile 5.0 and Mobile 6.0 applications? Why? Long Question: I've been reading through the Microsoft Mobile Development Handbook again. This time through I've noticed a descrepancy between the book and a document that it referrences. In the beginning of Chapter 2 "Building a Microsoft Windows Form GUI" the authors encourage the reader to check out the "UI guidelines for Pocket PC and Smartphone platforms (http://msdn.microsoft.com/ mobility/ windowsmobile/partners/mobile2market/participatevendors.aspx) p37. >From that link you can access the "Designed for Windows Mobile Software Application Handbook for Pocket PC". In chapter 2 the authors state "The official guidelines go further by stating that the left button should represent the primary function and the right button should hold all other menu options" p54. The linked handbook states "Any menus appearing in the Menu Bar must appear in the leftmost portion of the Menu Bar, except for when dynamically providing space for the global New button" pg8. -I'm wondering if this is just referring to a menuitem and a toolbar in the same control area? I'm not sure if these are conflicting statements, or I'm miss-reading the linked handbook. In the past I've heard the argument that the book states and because of that I'm currently using it in our applications. After reading the logo certification handbook I'm confused on which method is correct. Could somebody please straighten me out?     - DMProcessConfigXML and SndSetSound makes the Windows message queue to work asynchronously I have a very weird issue with a program that receive a windows message ( a WM_USER one) and do some job. Doing this job takes several seconds and then it waits for the next message. If a new message comes while doing the job, it is retained in the queue until the job ends because there is only the main thread. All is fine until here. But to do some parts of this job I call two functions: DMProcessConfigXML and SndSetSound in different pieces of code. Well, if there is a message in the queue, it enters while one of these functions are being processed. As there cannot be two copies of the main thread because global variables, etc, the program crashes. If no other message arrives while doing the job, all works fine. Also, commenting out these two lines the crashes dissapear. I've introduced loging to a file to see when the functions enter, message comes, etc and I'm sure that all is how I am telling it, even if it sounds weird.     - GPS turns off in standby mode I've written a program that reads GPS coordinates, and it works perfectly unless the device enters in standby mode, then it stops receiving coordinates. I can deactivate the standby mode in Settings, but that would keep everything turned on and it would waste too much power. I want it to enter standby mode except for the GPS device. I've read the reference of the GPS Intermediate Driver, and the description of the Registry keys related to it, and there isn't any setting to configure this. Any ideas?     - WM5 and DB2/400 How does one go about interacting with db2 on an AS/400 from a WM5 device? I can only find tools to talk to MS SQL. Are there any that will connect to DB2/400 directly. I have tried connecting to a Microsoft SQL table and trigger to a linked DB2/400 table, but I get "Error: interface does not support triggers." Does BizTalk have anything in it that will help?     - Calllog Event Hello I can get an event when I have a missedcall and when an incomming call is happening. But how can I just have an event when the calllog has been changed? Because the incomming call event fires when: 1. The incomming call appears 2. The incomming call gets answered 3. The incomming call is missed The missed call event fires when 1. The incomming call is missed But when the incomming call gets answered, I dont get an even when the call is closing, when there is a new calllog entry...     - How to terminate outstanding CeRapiInvoke() call Hi all, I use RAPI to communicate to PDA in my desktop application, and CeRapiInvoke() in particular. The application installs some components on PDA, and at some point, when the user press Cancel, I need to terminate outstanding call to CeRapiInvoke().     - Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK install error I have tried to install the Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0 SDK, and it gives me an error: "The cabinet file 'sdkfiles.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.     - CFileDialog and GetOpen(Save)FileName I have an MFC based application in which I wanted to replace CFileDialog invocations by calls to GetOpenFileName or GetSaveFileName. When I test on emulators (PPC2003 on eVC4 and WinMobile 6 on Vis Studio 2005) everything works fine, but on devices things are not as they should. When I use GetOpenFileName I get a file dialog, but I get an extra title bar. This results in the file dialog information being shifted down so that the Open and Cancel buttons are partially hidden by soft keyboard. By extra title bar I mean that there is dialog title on the task bar, but also there is another dialog title in a blue band just below taskbar. So far I have not found any way to get rid of it.     - Disabling the homekey Hi does anybody know how to disable the homekey on smartphone? I'm using vs 2005 and smartphone 2003 and WM5.0. I have tried capturing the key using RegisterHotKey (as suggested by people to solve this problem) which captures the other soft keys just fine. However for the home key it appears to miss the keydown key press so that home key continues to go to the home screen. I have seen comment about using GX.DLL but I cannot find an example... has anybody any examples?     - Issue with ceappmgr.exe Hi I create dynamically an .inf file, build the concerning cab, embed that cab in the resource of a dynamically compiled Setup.exe. When running the setup .exe it writes the ceappmgr.exe inf file, extracts the cab and runs ceappmgr.exe to install the cab. So far so good, this works fine as long as I extract the cab and write the inf file into a subfolder of Active Sync as is the 'best practice' . But if I extract the cab to another directory, invoking ceappmagr.exe throws an error: "Cannot install application because of an error in the setup file". With activesync you are limited to one PC to one wince device. Are
there any other ways of connecting multiple wince devices to a single
PC? The PC should be able to access/read/write files on the target
devices.
