Hi,

I have a Symbol PPT2800 which has some non-standard apps installed
that I would like to remove. One in particular is run when the device
is started. I cannot remove them in the normal way (They don't appear
in Remove Programs) and deleting all of the entries in the Start Up
folder results in them reappearing the next time it is switched on. I
have tried a cold reboot but this has no effect at all (no
configuration or screen alignment). I was wondering how I can get
round this and restore everything to how it was out of the box?

Thanks, in advance,

Ben

Ben,

usually 'factory' files are located inside Application folder, which is
flash memory. If you did not delete them, you will get the same
'factory' configuration as initially. Besides, you can try to verify,
what is written in device's registry under HKLM\Init key, usually shell
is noted there

Cheers,
Alex

Just to be sure:
Are you sure you did a cold reboot, rather than a warm reboot? Cold
reboot almost always eliminates changes made by customers. If you
weren't prompted to align your screen, you probably did a warm, not
cold, boot.

More likely:
Some devices, especially industrial devices like Symbol's, include
persistent memory. VARs often use this to store files that run after
cold reboot. Use File Explorer and/or ActiveSync->Explore to edit
and/or delete files in such persistent memory. But be careful, because
you might disable something you really need.
